Jessica Alba “takes on Angelina to become Hollywood’s hottest heroine”

untitled-3

This is the cover for the June issue of Britain’s Tatler magazine. Now, I love this photo of Jessica Alba. The green pops, and she looks flawless and beautiful and surprisingly, not like she‘s being tortured. But I have to quibble with the cover line: “Jessica Alba takes on Angelina to become Hollywood’s hottest heroine”. Really? I mean, seriously? Even though I hate it, I understand when Megan Fox gets the “new Angelina” comparisons because, hey, Megan has spent a lot of time, effort, and money trying to become the new Angelina. But Jessica?

I think perhaps the mag is drawing the comparison because of Jessica’s new film, The Killer Inside Me, which is directed by Michael Winterbottom, who directed Angelina in A Mighty Heart? But if we’re just going by who directed Angelina, I suppose Matt Damon is “the new Angelina” because he’s being directed by Clint Eastwood? Ugh. Anyway, regarding The Killer Inside Me, Jessica tells the magazine that she hated doing such a violent film:

Actress Jessica Alba has spoken of the anguish of playing a prostitute murdered by a serial killer. The 29-year-old described filming the brutal scenes with co-star Casey Affleck for The Killer Inside Me and said: ‘It was horrible when he was doing that stuff.’

She defended director Michael Winterbottom, who has been heavily criticised for the film’s graphic violence.

She told Tatler magazine: ‘It’s difficult material to tackle.’

The film tells the story of a small-town sheriff who becomes a psychotic killer. Scenes were so violent Jessica needed extensive make-up to disfigure her face. She said: ‘It was eight hours of make-up throughout the day. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t lie down, I couldn’t see out.’

Jessica also talked babies and adoption in Tatler, which also could be shades of Angelina? I’m still struggling to figure this out. Anyway, Jessica says that getting pregnant again is something she’s considering: “Of course! And I feel like I should do it soon. You bring these kids into the world, so you might as well participate.” Jessica also tells the magazine that she and Cash want “three or four” kids and that “My mom grew up around a huge family, and they always wanted more kids, and I was like, ‘Why don’t you just adopt?’ I’m totally inspired. If you have the love, and the capacity to love children, you should just adopt. And I plan on doing it.” Well, good for her. I think she enjoys being a mother, and if she wants to adopt, God bless.

I wasn’t aware Angelina held that title.

  2. lin234 says:

She’s beautiful but she doesn’t have that edge that Angelina has. The words fiery, mysterious, and wild aren’t words I’d associate with Alba and it shows through her movies. She’s more suited for franchise roles like the Fantastic Four.

  3. ogechi says:

My fiancee is loves Jessica Alba, though i was a bit jealous but i truly admire her.

  4. meme says:

    @bella – me neither.

  5. lucy2 says:

Me either, bella. Maybe a few years ago, but not so much anymore.
I think Jessica very pretty, but one of the worst actresses working today. She can’t hold a candle to Jolie’s talent, and I say that as someone who has liked a few of Jolie’s roles but mostly thinks she’s just OK.

  6. NayNay says:

I think I remember hearing that she was named that because of the movies Tomb Raider.

There is absolutely no way that Jessica Alba could take that title away from Angelina. If these two got into a fight, Angelina would rip her apart.

  7. Dan says:

maybe its more tatler needing to sell magazines and finding a way to work Angelina Jolie into their cover is their trick and the only way to do that is compare their cover star to her?

  8. Missfit says:

Umm, I’m sorry, but Alba is cute and pretty and all, but she isn’t as good of an actress or talented as Jolie. I agree with Lucy2. I like how Jolie can take about any role…psycho, crazy, normal, motherly, or whatever. I’d like to see Jolie in an (ugly) role though, like Charlize Theron did in Monster.

  9. cedar falls says:

Terrible actress Jessica may be, but at least she looks more like she could hold her own in a fight than the walking skeleton that is Angie Jolie. There was an audible gasp at my cinema’s showing of Wanted when she steps out of the paraffin bath, and it was definitely less “OMG, she’s hot”, than “My Lord, just eat something woman!”. I also hold out a lot more hope for Killer and Machete than I do for Salt, the latter having been written by the man who gave the world the total b*ll*cks that was Equilibrium, Ultraviolet and Law Abiding Citizen. Then again, those films didn’t have AJ’s pursed-lips “action face” to plug up the gaping plotholes…

  10. lrm says:

alba does not yet embody the old school hollywood glamour with a twist of mystery-which i think jolie definitely does.
alba might grow into it,as she ages, but i dunno…she has no edge, or vamp, and actually is approachable and almost down to earth,in photos and interviews, so that makes it hard to sustain a mystique.
but,c’mon, she’s drop dead gorgeous, and exotic looking, for sure.

  11. Alex says:

darn cedar falls why so bitter toward Jolie and Salt would do way better than Killer

  12. cee says:

No Way!!!!! Another actress who wants to be Angelina or another rag trying to get hits by using Angelina’s name. Lets face it Angie even at 34 is still head over heels the best at what she does. SO Jessica (all of them) Megan and the rest really need to move on and just try to act as well as Angelina.

  13. luna says:

I love Angelina Jolie, but if they were in an actual fight, my money would go to Jessica. Jessica’s thin, but looks like she works out. Angie’s just plain emaciated now.

  14. Miranda Ann says:

I also hold out a lot more hope for Killer and Machete than I do for Salt
    ————————————————-
Really?? For serious? This is the first I’ve heard about Killer and only a bit about Machete because of Lohan. But you think they will do better than Salt. Interesting observation.

Anyway, I like Alba but I’ve only seen one of her movies. She’s not the best actress but she seems like a nice person and her little girl is a doll baby. I do think Tatler is just using Angelina’s name on the cover to try to make the interview more interesting. It apparently has worked since blogs are picking up the story.

  15. QB says:

Angelina use to have the look of the heroine but now not so much.

Alba did Dark Angel , I liked it but all I could think was how can’t they not just knock this skinny girl out.

Plus I think right now there are a lot of murmour about the women who is working on the Steven Soderbergh’s film , with Ewan Mcgregor , Antonio Bandera and Michael Douglas.

She is a real life mma fighter and she worked on american gladiator.

  16. Lala11_7 says:

I’m with Cedar on this one…

I have YET to see a Jim Thompson novel that DIDN’T translate to the film with A BANG…”The Grifters”….and the book “The Killer Inside” is TOTALLY off the chain…so to see my boy Casey and Winterbottom…CAN’T WAIT!!!

“Salt” looks like something I’ve seen before…which is the problem with AJ’s action flicks for me…I’ve seen them before…maybe I’ll get interested if she does a film where she does what William Peterson’s character did at the end of “To live and die in L.A.”…until then…me and AJ…Meh…

  17. TG says:

@cedar falls – I agree. Angie has never been tough looking. She looks like a skeleton and I have never bought her in any of those tough girl roles. She reminds me of someone who thinks they are tough but they aren’t.

  18. cedar falls says:

    Miranda Ann & Alex,

I fully expect Salt to make more money than Jessica’s movies, but then it’s a much more commercial film with a far greater production & promotion budget. The real test will be whether or not it gets the word of mouth it needs to be a success after the opening weekend. As for being “bitter”, whilst I do think AJ is way too spindly to convince as an action star NOW (I have a soft spot for Tombraider), I base my “Salt will be s**t” opinion solely on the past works of it’s creator, Mr. Kurt Wimmer!

  19. Melanie says:

Uma Thurman, Pam Grier ect. A woman has to be muscular in order to be a bad ass in my opinion. These scrawny lollipop headed actresses are totally miscast as action heroes.

  20. Emily says:

I’m not sure about now, but Jolie in her prime would be my pick for best heroine. She’s too skinny and frail looking now though, but I reckon she’d still take Alba in a fight.

  21. James says:

Jessica Alba is far more hotter than Angelina Jolie – from a man’s perspectives. I can totally see how Jessica Alba is going to knock down the 35 year-old mother of six, Angelina Jolie. The only ass Jolie can kick nowadays is the goat-bearded Mr Pitt.

    You go, girl.

PS. Yes, Alba is a bad actress, so is Jolie. Everything is just a business buzz in Hollywood, including the so-called Oscar. Come on, even Paltrow has one. Can it be for real?

  22. Praise St. Angie! says:

while Alba is a very pretty young woman with a kick ass body, she cannot act to save her life. painful to watch, IMO.

not that I think Jolie is any great actress (she’s OK…not terrible, not great), her talent totally eclipses Alba’s.

    a very poor comparison.

  23. WTF?!? says:

Since their acting talent is on par, I think she’ll be a huge success at running around doing flips of off stationary objects and waving guns.
She did do that stupid Dark Angel series, so at least she has some cred to that end. She’d better get cracking on the baby-making, though, or at least adopt a few.

  24. SolitaryAngel says:

This is the prettiest I’ve ever seen her, but she just can’t act.

  25. xxodettexx says:

i saw the preview for machete and i loved it, even alba looked pretty badass in the scene where she is revving of the crowd of machete-holding mexicans… haha…

never was an alba fan, but will definitely be seeing machete and killer

  26. Kelaa Khaa says:

I wonder what Jennifer Jason-Leigh is up to nowadays? I am surprised that Jessica Alba took on this role and I wonder how edgy her performance will be since she strikes me as pretty white bread vanilla, but I guess you never know.

  27. meme says:

all of you who think Salt isn’t going to be a huge hit are nuts. i can’t stand saint angie ho but that movie is going to make mucho money. maybe miser alba will surprise us all with her performances in two movies i would never have cast her in.

  28. Ana says:

*Sigh* a few months ago I predicted Jessica would fade away. I’m always wrong.

She looks really pretty in these pictures. She should quit fighting the pretty and drop the “edgy” stuff.

  29. lizz says:

“I suppose Matt Damon is “the new Angelina” because he’s being directed by Clint Eastwood?”
That made me laugh, ahh I love Matt Damon.
    What are we talking about?

  30. buzzaroo says:

What does she mean by this comment –

“You bring these kids into the world, so you might as well participate” ??

If you bring kids into the world you have no choice but to participate. Am I missing something?

  31. Erin says:

Alba is beautiful (like Jolie) but agreed with some of you they both cannot act. I will take Scarlett Jo over either of them any day.

  32. nana says:

since May 6, stll no brangelina articles???? im dying……..
