She was truly a "timeless" beauty and talented entertainer in which societal injustices and limitations could not destroy. Others such as Dorothy Dandrige, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington succumbed to the overwhelming inequalities of racism and simply "imploded". Lena Horne had her low points in life too, but she always seemed to rally back from nowhere to remind us that you may be down but you're never out. She carried herself with a great deal of personal dignity and fought for the rights and dignity of others when she could have cared only about herself and left such matters for others to carry the baton of civil rights. Ms. Horne was a beautiful person both inside and out who never denied her African American heritage when she was encouraged to do so. May she rest in peace. Lena Horne, I salute you!!! All a female needed was some simple black eyeliner and red lipstick to look nice, not caked on clown makeup. Women were beautiful and sexy back then without being slutty and skanky. She was the first black female entertainer to perform in the "Cotton Club" in Harlem and the first beauty before Josephine Baker to set the standard for Black beauty, elegance and class....so timeless was her beauty and immortally will be world renouned. I just finished watching the "Wiz" with Diana Ross and M.J.. She played the "Good Witch" Glenda towards the end....she was so beautiful in that movie...so angelic. RIP Ms. Horne. We love you always!
