Helen Mirren’s eerily lifelike wax figure

Dame Helen Mirren - Waxwork Unveiling
The Huffington Post is running this story with a photo similar to the one above and the caption – “which is the real Helen Mirren?” I have to admit that I guessed wrong at first and that the real Helen’s more statue-like pose threw me off! This is one of the best wax figures I’ve seen. When you see the photo up close (and with the full outfits) it’s obvious the breathing Helen is the one on the right.

This also begs the question: what has 64 year-old Helen had done to her face, if anything? I’m a skeptic and I think she’s had at least something minor done, but that it was done well and it settled, leaving her with an all natural look. I could be wrong, though, and Helen could just have aged this well naturally. Damn her.

Aren’t these photos with Helen and her husband of 13 years, Taylor Hackford, cute? I love how he’s kissing the statue and she’s scolding him behind his back. Helen and Taylor were at the unveiling of her new wax figure at Madame Tussauds in London. According to USA Today, “The actress has been involved in the creation process and has donated the floor length black dress which her wax double wears.” Is it mean to say I like the wax figure’s hairstyle better? Helen should really look into styling her hair in that polished bob again.

That is one of the best wax likenesses I’ve seen, although it looks like they gave her a bit of extra boobage.

I have a serious girl-crush on Helen; she is a stunning woman and such a talented actress.

Hoooooly sh!t. That wax figure is EXCELLENT! I guessed right, but truthfully, it was a lucky guess based on absolutely nothing.

It’s her skin and pose. Past celebrity figures are usually so shiny, poorly shaded, and lamely posed that they look like, well, wax. Characitures. Her’s looks natural, almost warm. Right down to softness of the hair.

Well done wax figure artist(s), well done.

EDIT: And the thumbnail w/ her husband = Awesomeness. I like a couple w/ the same sense of humor.

Wow….I guessed wrong too! Holy sh*t. I love these wax figures, esp. when they get them so right. She does look different. Maybe she had a little tightening done. (the real HM of course) Looks good whatever she did.

  9. Trustiva says:

    Oh FUUUUUUUUUUU-

I thought the red one was the figure and then I thought “Why the figures got two faces? One normal smiley and one open-mouth laughing. That’s new!”

I thought it was really cool that they got her two figures/ a figure with two interchangeable faces. Until I found out…

I guessed wrong too. Madame Tussauds have done some figures that are extremely dead-on. But a lot of them are “who the hell is that?”.

Liver spots? Did you see Helen Mirren in a bikini? In her 60s, she looks better than, oh, 99% of all women in bikinis.
The BEST wax likeness I have ever seen.

She is so great all around. I think that if more women would be as active in taking care of themselves as Helen, then we would probably look better too. Although I’m sure good genes don’t hurt either.

It’s incredible! Once in a while they do a really great one.
Then they turn out a disaster like the Leonardo Dicaprio one that looks nothing like him.

Didnt know which one was wax at first. But the ‘too perfect’ hair gave it away.

The real Helen looks fantastic! I think she has had some ‘tweeking’ done, but it looks great.

  22. RHONYC says:

good! i don’t blame her for being closely involved in getting it exact.

madame tussauds has been doing crappy figures that didn’t look like the intended celebrities for years. their work had fallen off tremendously.

finally a wax figure that actually looks like the star.

too bad it wasn’t her in that bikini though. lol
