OK. I presume she has bodily functions. That right there says she should be taking a shower daily, if not every two days. But a whole week? If that is true than I can only imagine the stench emanating from her.

Blech. They can have each other.

Not that I’d be able to change that, but still…. :)

My knee-jerk reaction to this news was “ewww”. But on second thought -

Times change. When I was a kid, we only bathed once or twice a week, with daily face washings. Hair was washed weekly. None of us smelled bad. Now I can’t imagine at least one shower and shampoo a day…

These people are in and out of water all day long. They probably aren’t actually dirty. Babies don’t need bathing daily as long as you keep the diaper area clean, either.

I read a whole article in the NY Times a few weeks ago about women who only wash their hair once a week and use powder the rest of the week. You really don’t “need” to bathe every day, but you do smell better.

Something tells me that their kid is going to grow up a whole lot more sane than say, Jennifer Lopez’s babies.

I don’t think it’s even a question of smelling bad, CB – personally I just FEEL better after I’ve had a shower.

Obviously a match made in heaven. High heaven. As in, stinking. Oh well, each to their own.

  7. CinPin says:

Babiea and children do not need a bath every day, a few times a week is enough, this is true.

However, once you hit puberty, and then adulthood, all your sweat glands mature, not to mention all the other new bodily fluids from down below. Then you really should shower at least every other day to keep from stinking.

I feel very bad for the staff that will be in the delivery room. I am an RN who used to work in OB, and I can tell you certain cultures do not believe in bathing towards the end of pregnancy, and the stench that would come out of these rooms where intolerable.

Of course they might have their baby at home with no one else present, or some other hippie thing to do, so maybe no one will have to suffer!

Not bathing during pregnancy is just not an option. Gross. The hormones and sweat glands are working overtime and it requires like 3 showers a day for most normal women who are active at all.

“Camila” or “Camilia”? How about some research/consistency, CB?

If you look clean and smell clean, then you are not dirty. It is as simple as that. But if you do, bathe.

But I cannot imagine someone who does not use deoderant could possibly go longer than twelve hours without a shower. To come close to lasting a week, after the bath you need to shave, lotion, powder, deoderant, body spray, etc and then repeat daily.

PS. most black woman wash their hair once a week at the most. Our hair dries out very easily and breaks if you wash it too often.

While I agree that not showering for a week is far too long for a person not using deodorant, or for a pregnant person, I do think we’ve been bombarded with cleanliness in the extreme by advertisers – all those lucrative lotions and potions. We’re really obsessive about it here.

  13. Kate says:

Maybe they take sponge baths in between showers. Not taking a shower doesn’t mean that there’s no attention to hygiene at all. However, I do think that more frequent showering is called for if one is skipping deodorant. Plus, McConaughey lives in Austin. Believe me, you can’t avoid sweating there.

I agree with Syko, you just feel so much better when you’re clean. I am guessing/hoping they ‘sponge’ off, or at least clean up a bit, even if they don’t take full showers daily (especially while hiking).

EEk! They must at least wash their faces every day, otherwise they’d have all sorts of zits and blemishes.

Ewwwwwwwww, I bather twice every day. I love my baths. Iam not teaching any child of mine that bathing once a week is OK. She seemed clean. Some one though did say he smells. I think it was Kate Hudson.

Yep you’re right CinPin, it’s all about the puberty. I can remember being a wee tike and my hair was pretty every day. Then I hit puberty, and if I didn’t wash it daily it felt revolting!

In my culture we wash daily. If I am at home I will wash my area after using the bathroom (1 or 2). I can still here my mom early in the morning saying “te lavaste?”, asking if I washed my area. I have a squirt bottle in all 3 bathrooms. Why would someone wash their face daily but not their ASS?….nasty! I will not go more than 4 days without washing my hair.

Wow…I think everybody’s maybe taking this too literally. I think they meant to imply that Camilla is not high-maintenance, as in she can go camping with him and get dirty and not freak out about it, NOT as in she regularly goes for a week without bathing. If so…that’s kinda gross, although I’ll admit I’ve done it on occasion (hangs head in shame).

  23. Fave says:

I just hope she’s nice and “fresh” for the delivery. I empathize with you Cinpin having to be in the delivery room with people that lack in hygiene.

I think it would have been better for all concerned if Matthew had just kept his stink and stinky thoughts to himself. We didn’t need to know that his girlfriend doesn’t bathe regularly either and their unborn child didn’t need to be branded as “dirty” before birth.

What they’re saying is he finally met a girl who CAN go without a shower, say, when camping or hiking. Not that she ALWAYS goes a week without showering. Haven’t any of you been camping? Or are you all too prissy and high maintenance for that?

I don’t believe any of this! I think it is a publicity stunt to get attention. These crazy celebrities will go to any lengths for attention, but of the same token, I think I will tear up all my pics of Matthew, and in all honesty, his woman does look kinda-well-stinky?
