50 Cent lost 54 pounds on a liquid diet to play a cancer patient

50cent2

Thanks to Dlisted and Jezebel, I now know what 50 Cent would look like if he lost 50…pounds. According to Us Weekly, 50 Cent lost 54 pounds to play the part of a football player-turned cancer patient in a film called Things Fall Apart. 50 Cent not only stars – he wrote the damn thing too! Damn, 50. Can you believe this is what he looks like? That is one dramatic change – when Tom Hanks and Matt Damon lost weight for various film roles, they looked different, sure, but you could still tell it was them. 50 Cent doesn’t even look like himself.

Lean times! Inspired by a pal who died of cancer, 50 Cent penned and stars in Things Fall Apart, a flick about a football player stricken with the disease.

“I lost 54 pounds for it,” says the 6-foot rapper, 34, who dropped from 214 pounds to an astonishing 160 with a liquid diet and three-hour-a-day treadmill walks for nine weeks. “I was starving.”

Now he’s back on tour and says, “I’ve been eating, I’ll be back in shape in no time!”

[From Us Weekly, print edition via Jezebel]

An all liquid diet for nine weeks? My first thought: That can’t be healthy. My second thought: Gwyneth Paltrow is probably going to feature 50 Cent as one of her cut-and-paste special GOOP reports so he can tell everyone how “fabulous” it was doing only liquids. How much do you want to bet? Gwyneth will even refer to him as her “dear friend, Mr. Fifty Cents.”

  1. WTF says:

    wow he looks sick…

  2. mel says:

He does look so different… I bet his movie does well.

  3. canadianchick says:

Wow, I hope his movie does well, sounds like he was really inspired by his friend. I didn’t even recognize him. I read once that Matt Damon got really sick from that dramatic weight loss for a role-hope 50 doesn’t get sick.

  4. geez says:

All of that weight lost just for the movie to go straight to DVD, that’s commitment!

  5. Peach says:

“my dear friend Mister Fifty Cents” is gold.

And yeah. It makes me sad to look at him. He looks like a cancer patient. Ugh. I just want to hug him.
Which is weird, because 50cent normal I kind of want to smack.

  6. bellaluna says:

He looks awful. I couldn’t even tell it was him. And no, definitely not healthy!

  7. Jazz says:

I didn’t recognize him without the bandanna or hat or whatever he wears. He looks like Dave Chappelle.

  8. zen says:

wow, i never would have known that was him.

  9. Jewbitch says:

Wow, he looks terrible!! I’ve always found him attractive….I’m not sure why? Lol. Maybe it’s the bad boy image? Or his seriously hunky body!! Hurry up 50!! Get back to normal!!

  10. omondieu says:

That cannot be good for you…but what commitment! I never thought that “fiddy” had it in him. I really hope that the film does well!

  11. crash2GO2 says:

I hope he will be OK. That not only strips your body, but if f*cks with your head too. In a well known study, healthy weight college males put on a calorie restricted diet who lost weight began to obsess about their weight and have distorted body images. That is one reason anorexics have such a difficult time putting weight on.

  12. ogechi says:

Christ of Nazareth! I hate to look slim!!!

  13. Bonfire Beach says:

I like fiddy. I’m impressed with his commitment to his project – seriously! I hope the extreme weight loss doesn’t eff up his organs and he stays healthy.

  14. kelbear says:

    I’m very impressed!

  15. DD says:

he truly looked the part he was playing then.

  16. Anth says:

looks more like 5 pesos now…

  17. mollination says:

like. I really wanted 50 to beat Kanye’s ass in that whole “battle of the CD drop” a year or so ago. Not enough to actually go buy the CD myself, haha, but enough that I wished it in my head.

I bought 50 cent’s first disc though – I was the coolest 9th grader on the block. Love you fiddy!

  18. Lway says:

    @ Peach: Well said!

  19. Ursaline says:

I didn’t know anything about this project til I heard about it yesterday. The before and after shots on the HuffPost were amazing.

Perhaps his commitment to this transformation was a drive to honor the memory of his friend, and he used that as his motivation. He DOES look like a cancer patient. My next door neighbor is a nice lady who has been enduring a battle with cancer and chemo for the last couple of years and she has this same kind of withered, haunted look.

Now I’m really interested in seeing his movie, so I guess it was a good idea to release these photos. Hopefully his acting is as authentic and impactful.

  20. Lori says:

Finish the project and go back to lifting 50, I can’t look at you like this!!!

  21. Luci says:

haham the goop comment is really funny 😀

I hope after he finishes the film he turns to his old_HOT_himself again!

  22. Leek says:

Wow. He’s in it to win it. Who would have known he was so committed to the arts. Writing a movie, rapping, acting. I like it. That’s great it’s a story about his friend, too.

  23. Tia C says:

Who wants to see a movie with Fiddy looking like that?! Not me. Gawd, he looks awful. Like a crackhead. I hope he didn’t harm his health too badly doing this. And that he’ll get back to his normal good looking self soon!

@ geez: You are probably right!

  24. My new idol. I joke, kind of.

  25. vi says:

i’m surprised how many people see this as commitment. commitment would be getting some actor training not endangering your health.

  26. Wholesome1 says:

I’m impressed with his commitment to the role. I’m going to keep my eye on him in future productions. It would be great if he turns out to be an up and coming acting powerhouse.

  27. ChinaCat says:

He looks like that DMX/DMZ (?) dude who’s always getting busted…

  28. Anne says:

    dang

  29. Amy says:

I hate when people think that weight loss and bald head=cancer patient. Depending on the cancer not everyone has dramatic weight loss if any at all and if they want to shave the head then go for ALL body hair, having eyebrows and stubble defeats the purpose.

    Well that’s my rant over.

  30. snowball says:

Ugh, remember Christian Bale lost 70 lbs. for The Machinist? That was so disgusting.

  31. GatsbyGal says:

Damn, that is some straight-up hardcore method acting right there. He must have really been touched by the death of his friend in a huge way. I’m very surprised at 50…his dedication really makes me interested in his movie.

  32. yae says:

Hell……..women are EXPECTED to be this underweight normally.

  33. mai tai says:

Hope he puts the weight back on fast!

  34. guimacho says:
