Her acting wasn't necessarily bad, but she didn't have the training in live theatre to help her project her voice or emote physically enough for the audience to react to her. If she was Lydia she'd only be on stage for a grand total of 1 scene, but Ann is deeply involved at the heart of the play... it's extremely complex and emotional and filled with mountains of symbolism.
