Eh. I would be much more interested in seeing Cleopatra played by an actress who is more like the historical figure, i.e. not white, and with personal magnetism and charm that isn’t strictly based on physical beauty. I think a large part of Angelina Jolie’s on-screen charm is her incredible physical beauty, and I think it overshadows her other qualities to the point where you don’t see them on film.

I learnt in Ancient History class back in high school that Cleopatra actually had greek blood in her and probably wasn’t pretty at all. I also remember learning that she had a hook nose, pale skin and red curly hair. I’m not kidding or making a joke I remember learning this.

But for the Hollywood glamourized version, I’m surprised no one said Catherine Zeta Jones. When the Soderbergh project was announced I was SO EFFING excited. CATH Z JONES AND HUGH JACKMAN? PERFECT!!!!! Too bad it fell apart but I wouldn’t mind seeing the two of them in this adaption. I’m kinda sick of always seeing Angelina Jolie as the exotic female character when there are many other actresses who could be perfect for that role.

It would be very risky for her to do this movie. The hype and the expectations would be so high I can’t see how the movie could live up to it.
If she does do it and blows it out of the water it could be a defining moment in her career.

Purefoy will always be Marc Antony to me. He was perfectly cast in Rome. Hollywood would never cast him because they never make daring and/or interesting casting choices.

I think AJ is a bad choice for this one (love her to death) but it’s just not who I would envision as Cleopatra! I was thinking Maya Rudolph, Rashida Jones, Thandie Newton, Jada Pinkett, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jennifer Connelly, etc
