Joe Jackson calls Katherine responsible for MJ’s death, gets ass handed to him

Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of pop singer Michael Jackson. Over the weekend, British rag News of The World posted an interview with a barely coherent Joe Jackson in which Jackson claims he basically said “I told you so” to Katherine after their son Michael died. In the video, Jackson mumbles and speaks in half sentences as he claims he told Katherine to look in on Michael in the months before he died. Joe, 80, says he saw signs that Michael was frail and thin and told Katherine to go see him, but that Katherine refused, citing Michael’s privacy. After Michael died, Joe basically blamed Katherine. He said to News of The World, “I told her, this would never have happened if you would have went and been with him.” Yes, it’s all Katherine’s fault for not heeding Joe’s advice. What’s possibly worse is that Joe admits he never cried after Michael died, and says he was mad at Katherine for crying, since she could have saved Michael if she would have just followed his advice.

Here’s a segment from News of The World’s coverage. They take Joe’s halting statements and turn them into fully formed thoughts. If you watch the video on their site you can tell that he didn’t speak with even a tenth of the eloquence they’re attributing to him.

The shattering accusation emerged when the couple came face-to-face as Michael lay on a mortuary table.

“Katherine was weeping uncontrollably and highly upset. But I didn’t give her a hug because I was MAD at her crying,” snaps Joe, 80, who says he had spent months urging her to get the singer into rehab for his prescription drugs addiction.

“I said, ‘If you had listened to me Michael would be living now!’ I kept thinking about the times I had stood in front of her saying something was wrong.

“I couldn’t bottle up my feelings. Katherine didn’t say a word – I had to get away from her. If she’d done what I asked, Michael would be here today. I am incensed with her. She could have made a difference.”

“I didn’t shed any tears, but maybe I should have. I just felt furious that my son was gone.”

And he focused that fury on Katherine. “In Michael’s final months alive I said to her many times that I couldn’t get through to him – and that she needed to help her son,” storms Joe.

“I had begged her to go over and stay with him, but she insisted he needed his privacy and gave him the slack she thought he needed. A child will listen to his mother more than his father – and Michael was a mummy’s boy. He listened to her.

“I still haven’t been able to talk about it to her as she doesn’t want to hear what I have to say.”

[From News of The World]

There’s more, including the fact that Debbie Rowe visited her biological kids and that they’re doing well, but you can read it at the source if you’re interested. Joe manages to make even good news sound ominous. That guy is such a creep and a user and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that he’s blaming his poor wife and showing no sympathy for her, but I am. It’s still mean and completely uncalled for. The good news is that Katherine’s lawyer has stepped up. Katherine issued a statement affirming her love for Michael and calling Joe on his evilness. TMZ points out in their coverage that Joe could be firing back at her for blocking his attempts to use his son’s memory for cash:

Katherine’s lawyer, Adam Streisand, tells TMZ, “The world knows that Mrs. Jackson has always been a loving mother and grandmother, and that she and Michael had a very special relationship.” Streisand then drives it home: “The world also knows who Joe Jackson is and he seems bent on never letting us forget.”

Howard Weitzman, lawyer for the Michael Jackson estate, tells TMZ, “The inference by Joe Jackson that Mrs. Jackson was in any way responsible for Michael’s death is preposterous. Katherine Jackson was a supportive and loving mother throughout Michael’s life. His love and respect for her is reflected in his estate plan.”

Now here’s how Joe may have screwed himself. He’s not included in Michael’s will and no matter how hard he tries to invalidate the will, he’s going to end up with nothing in that department. The chances of Joe getting a court-approved allowance from the estate are slim to none. And Joe is trying to exploit Michael’s name to make money, but his unauthorized attempts have pretty much been shut down by the estate. Ouch … and true.

So the only thing Joe has been able to rely on … Katherine’s generosity in the money department. Looks like that gravy train may have finally left the station.

[From TMZ]

I would love to hear more about how Joe has “been shut down by the estate” while he’s been trying to capitalize on Michael’s death. We’ve heard that he’s been working on a Michael Jackson museum and casino in Gary, Indiana, and maybe the estate put the kibosh on that. Joe may be attempting to malign his long suffering wife, but she has the control now and by making ridiculous statements like this he’s only showing how desperate and cruel he really is.

If she has been supporting him quietly until now, he is more stupid than I thought. Say bye-bye to any allowance from Katherine. He worth nothing more than newspaper filler anyway.

  2. Confuzzle says:

They’ve been legally separated for many years. He is an abusive mother farker who needed the crap beaten out of him decades ago.

  3. Twez says:

I can’t think of any more beautiful comeuppance for an abusive ass like this guy than to have every bit of control taken from him.

  4. manda says:

Why is he still involved with the family? Why would Katherine put up with him at all? We all know how abusive and awful he was. Why are we still listening to anything he says?

  5. Slymm27 says:

This idiot is a very sick, twisted man. Where did Katherine meet him?

  6. DD says:

    sociopath x 10

  7. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

The old S.OB. needs to hook up with Shannon Price and then get on the Express Bus to Hell.

  8. Jazz says:

Why is this old fool flapping his gums now for? Too much attention being given to that money grubbing tomb raider Shannon Price perhaps?

  9. hairball says:

I will never forget him at I think MJ’s public service and all he could do was hawk an album his ‘band’ had just made. I could NOT believe my ears. I think the interviewer was equally stunned and didn’t know what to say for a second.

  10. 1 qt of 1 % says:

He wasn’t sorry his son passed away, he was sorry his bank folded. He represents the very worst in what a person can be.

  11. Shay says:

I think Joe’s last resort would be to divorce Katherine to get to the money. They’ve been seperated for years and I think he knew the only way he could get money from MJ is through Katherine. It seems that Katherine cut Joe off now and I wouldn’t put it past him doing something dirty to get money from her.

  12. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Why shut him down now? Why not 45 years ago? Look, I totally *get* that it was an entirely different world back then for everyone, let alone black American families with many, many mouths to feed. Child-rearing employed a lot more corporal punishment, and the strictness of the regimen was as a good of a lesson as any in teaching kids that it is a bitter means to a stable end when you’re often at the mercy of a world you never made: better to learn that you’re young and life lies before you. Goodness knows that being with a terrible husband often meant more financial and social security, so when Motown comes knocking, who wouldn’t choose the option of getting untold fortunes for being around your own kids instead of making beans as a maid and spending more time with your employer’s children than your own? That the family was brimming with talent and (at least appeared to be) a functional family unit rather than have to be shoehorned into the myriad black stereotypes in the entertainment industry was the cherry on top. A child star today and a child star of several decades ago would bear little resemblance to each other, and the old guard hadn’t yet proved to the powder keg that we see in aging hasbeens of today, so if some untoward behaviour was what it would have taken to get the performance, no one batted an eyelash.

    And yet…

Though he’s the very definition of ‘bad father’, Joe’s malignant hand of avarice wasn’t the only one to touch the lives of these children, effectively priming them for the disasters to come. His is just the most cartoonishly villanous and brazen. After a certain age, people are meant to learn to live with the imperfections of their upbringing, forgive where needed–if possible–and go on to an accountable adulthood. I think by now we agree that Joe’s influence was almost certainly the most corrosive, but even with all of those factors at play, it just seems patently ridiculous to think this one psycho was so powerful that no combined forces on earth could stop him. So, the kids’ money is everyone’s business but their welfare wasn’t? I don’t have delusions about the entertainment indutstry being populated by guileless, naive pixies. Today, business is a minefield, but for blacks, back then? You have to do shizz to get shizz done. Joe got results in his, horrible way. I think a good chunk of the Jackson’s performances were devoted to covering up the abuse because of the cycles of fear and guilt that kept them anchored to their secrets. People have other responsibilities and don’t want to interfere with stuff they may have considered to be none of their business. To this day, when comedians can’t think of any actual jokes, they rely on the old ‘go get me a switch’ workhorse, but I still have trouble believing that no one had any indication of how serious things were. It just seems like a lot of people turned the other way in order to keep their gazes fixed on the money.

  13. Green Is Good says:

Vicious old f*cker. Die already, Joe. you useless piece of human refuse.

  14. Zoe says:

I can’t imagine anything worse than a mother having to see her son’s lifeless body, but I guess being yelled at and blamed for it is the most heart-wrenching situation alive. Anyone who has followed the Michael Jackson story whatsoever knows what a loving person his mother was and what a monster Joe Jackson has always been, terrorizing his family to no end. If anything, Michael wouldn’t have been laying on a slab if he’d had a father that had given him the love he needed to not grow into a tormented man. I can’t believe anyone would pay Joe Jackson anything to do an interview, this man is evil incarnate. That he continues to exploit his family in the face of their pain just shows what a sad excuse he was for a father and husband. Katherine is the mother of his children and even grandchildren, she deserves so much respect. Michael obviously thought the world of her, as his will easily reflects. RIP.

  15. texasmom says:

    Ick.

  16. Victoria says:

@Hairball Im with you! I saw that same interview! The reporter asked him to comment on his son’s death and the man pretty much said “Oh yeah that…well I have a new recording company Id like to tell you about”. Oh my heart dropped to my knees! He’s needs to STFU

  17. Obvious says:

@Shay I do not believe that would work. If they are legally separated then the assets are no longer community property, meaning has has no claim to them even though California is a community state.

Personally I think this man needs to go die, i don’t generally wish death on anybody, but he is the scum of the earth. i may not have been an MJ fan, but this creature was surely spawned from the devil and needs to be sent back where he came from. And blaming Katherine?

  18. bellaluna says:

Joe Jackson is one of the most vile creatures on earth. The fact that sticks in my head is that Michael was so scared of his father he used to pee his pants when Joe walked into the room.

For a parent to use a child as income is detestable. For a parent to try to use a dead child as income is far beyond detestable, I don’t think a word for it exists. Dante hasn’t created a circle of Hell for these disgusting creatures, but God has. I hope it finds Joe, and soon.

  19. Feebee says:

    Total fuckwit.

He didn’t cry because he wasn’t sad, just mad.

  20. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Wow, Heidi’s really gone too far the surgery *ba-dum*

Ray Harryhausen’s creatures keep getting scarier *rimshot*

This centipede is so hot, it seems to be melting the face clear off of his body *try the veal!*

We said there would be consequences if you set off your SCRAM *I’m here all night*

But what’s the point if you can’t Transform TM back? *what a great room*

Which is to say, children aren’t the only ones who should treat family members with honour.

  21. Karen says:

I may not have been as crazy about MJ toward the end of his life but it has never stopped me from loving his songs and buying his albums. Tears spring to my eyes whenever I play “I’ll Be There” because I could just imagine the ill treatment the Jackson 5 received from their father whom I could picture staring sternly at them from the recording studio viewing area. Michael’s voice is angelic and the harmonies are perfect. It kills me to know what those boys went through to produce that album.

I’m not in the habit of wishing death on other people either but I wouldn’t bat an eyelash when it’s Joe Jackson’s time to meet his maker. Too bad for Joe, he will never meet his son on the otherside. MJ is safe now…RIP.

  22. mojoman says:

This POS is the most despicable, vile, waste of sperm donor of a person! “Michael was a mommy’s boy..” take note buddy, Michael was a middle age 50 year old man, not a 5 year old boy whom Katherine needs to babysit. And why was he so screwed up? it was because of you, jacka$$! by the way, Dlisted has the best mug and description of this f**ker, a combo of jacked up bulldog and a catfish.

  23. andrea says:

go adam streisand. that was a great comment to give. it wasnt nasty, but quite to the point – and so true.

nobody takes this jackass seriously and it looks like he’s finally getting cut off from making money off of his son.

what really pisses me off about this is that stuff is that it moves the focus to joe from michael. michael was a sweet, gentle, compassionate, extraordinarily talented man and here we are talking about this asshole again, b/c he doesnt have the decency to keep his mouth shut. joe represents the opposite of everything michael’s spirit is about. joe was given such a gift in having an incredibly talented, soft-hearted child, and he’s always been too damn evil to recognize how to handle it with love.

  24. Sudini says:

Joe Jackson did so much damage to his son from a very early age and Michael ultimately died as a result of that.

This man is just plain evil and I’m glad he’s getting called out.

  25. Oons says:

@Jo ‘mama’ Besser…I completely agree with everything you said. He is a vile, horrible man. But times were different back then. People discilpined their children with belts and fists. This is not an excuse for abuse, but just how it was.
Again, Joe Jackson is the worst kind of scum, trading on his dead son’s name, but like you said, there comes a time when people need to grow up and take charge of their own lives. Michael Jackson had his excuses built in from childhood…the drugs, the surgery, the outrageous behaviour. I’m sad the man died, but he knew exactly what he was doing. 50 years on the planet should make you stronger, but some people just don’t want to face it. Its easier to get high.
Again, I hav2 say, Joe Jackson is a horrible piece of work and will rot in hell.

  26. omondieu says:

Man, with the anniversary of Michael’s death coming up, we can expect a lot more verbal diarrhea from Joe in the days to come…buckle up.

  27. Sns02215 says:

Someone should have wacked this loser years ago.

  28. original kate says:

what a hate filled man he must be. makes me wonder what his own childhood was like.

  29. jc126 says:

What a waste of oxygen. I wish he’d get attacked by a grizzly bear.

  30. d says:

“It’s all about me” control freak Jackson is losing control and spazzing out as a result. Oh. for the day when his toxic waste of a person is no longer around. He will never acknowledge the damage he did and continues to do. It’s so clear by Micheal’s will how he felt about his father and his father just continues to blunder on like nothing Micheal ever said or wanted really matters. I can see why he hated him. His father has major major issues but will never resolve thim, his head is too far up his own a** for that to ever happen.

  31. jenna says:

I’m always perplexed (and disgusted) at how long some creepy people live…like they go ON and ON and ON…while others die so young. The thought that comes to MY mind is that he will probably, unfortunately, outlive Katherine. Then, he’ll REALLY start acting up, I think. People like this seem like they have some type of mental illness, ya know? They’re evil, but what diagnosis are they, really? Rage disorder doesn’t work. Antisocial…not completely. I can’t put my finger on it.

  32. Kim says:

Everyone knows Joe is a HORRENDOUS father. He is abusive and only about money so these comments dont suprise me. He is just pissed Michael left him nothing because he deserves nothing.

  33. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I too wonder what kind of upbringing would result in a person behaving so monstrously? Maybe it can’t be explained. I’m not going to pull a Dr. Drew, so I won’t speculate further. I guess there are no winners here. I suppose the anniversary will be up in about a fortnight: let the deluge begin. And that the museum he wants would also house a gambling den? I remember when I took a creative writing class in high school and thinking back on that time now, I have no doubt that my teacher would have suggested that I omit that section because it strains the bonds of believability too much and turns farcial. Well, ‘joke’ is the word.

  34. d says:

@ jenna: I know….my best friend’s sweet darling grandmother that everyone loved died at a relatively early age, while the bitter, spiteful woman on her mum’s side lived on and on and on…everyone remarked on it. I remember someone saying that maybe the nasty gramma was living longer because God wanted to give her a chance to learn the lessons she needed to learn, while sweet granda got called to heaven earlier because God knew she was ready and he needed her there. Or some such thing. It was hard to swallow. Or maybe it’s a lesson for us, to learn to be compassionate for someone who is clearly not at peace within himself, who is clearly a miserable human being. Like that nasty grandmother, you had to feel sorry for someone so vile, that they had little or no real pleasure or good in their lives.

  35. onyx says:

Even though I detest the man, I think he’s got a point. First of all, if Katherine was such a loving caring mother why did she allow the abuse her dear husband put most of the kids through. even years later she did not have the guts to openly say Get the F out of my life and continued with the charades. and Why are all these grandchildren living with her? I think it’s a pretty bad testimony about the parenting that her own screwed up children received. must it come full circle? and.. it was quite apparent that Michael was screwed up. everybody hailed him to be some kind of a superhuman. he was a drug addict and pervert that lived in his own inflated bubble. while he undoubtably was a musical genius, he was a mess of a human, who thought money could buy him everything, including his own genetically engineered “perfect”children and doled out hush money for inconvenient truths. while everybody seems to understand that mother’s sight of her child’s dead body is unfathomably painful, a father might express his pain in a different way. I was always a little perplexed by how oblivious his whole inner circle acted around him as if everything was totaly honky-dory. he was hot H-ot mess for most of his life and everybody was standing idly by because…

  36. Just a Poster says:

I am glad Katherine is being protected by a shark in a suit from that beast!

Onyx it was well documented that if anyone told him no, or tried to point out his addictions he would freeze them out. The family (sans Joe) would do interventions and he would not take the help.

  37. original kate says:

“I wish he’d get attacked by a grizzly bear.”

@ jc126 – that comment totally cracked me up!

  38. Ú says:

@Onyx…you are spot on. There is no excuse for turning a blind eye, to Michael’s own abuse or any abuses he may have inflicted upon himself or others. Everybody is guilty here.
Another point I sometimes think people miss is that Michael “hated” his father, yet everyone of his children are rich beyond any normal persons dreams. That in no way condone’s Joe Jackson’s behaviour, but they do live a luxurious lifestyle.
Also, when Michael was going through his “Legal troubles”..( I love how Jackson fan’s call it that)..who was standing beside him every day?? His dad Joe. I know this was for his own personal gain, but Michael couldn’t have hated or feared him that much if he held his hand every day.
Having said all that I think Joe Jackson is the scum of the earth and abusing a child is disgusting and wrong.

  39. voodoobetty says:

His face always looks as if its melting

  40. Look at the size of his hands in that third picture! Wow, I realize it is a camera angle, but in an abstract form they represent his his large greed. He has his big greedy hand out.

  41. me says:

I know how Michael felt cos I had the same kinda dad as his….=((
