Jessica Alba’s little black dress: cute or fug?

fp_5268263_ang_alba_jessica_062410

Here are some photos of Jessica Alba at the not-so-big French premiere for The Killer Inside Me. The lead of the film, Casey Affleck was not there. Neither was Kate Hudson, who also costars. I guess they had better things to do. And I guess Jessica didn’t? Anyway, the dress. At first I kind of liked it – the neckline is modern, and I thought the whole dress would be structured. Not so much. It looks like the designer had two interesting ideas and jammed them into one dress. Not hideous, but not great either. And the shoes are all kinds of wrong. There’s just too much going on between the wedge heel and the straps, et cetera. This is like a textbook example of how to f-ck up a simple appearance in a little black dress.

Anyway, did you know that Jessica Alba joined the cast for the third installment of the ‘Meet the Parents’ trilogy? She’s in Little Fockers! I had no idea. It doesn’t look like it was any kind of big part either:

I’m ashamed for giggling at the thought of Robert DeNiro taking boner pills. Bad, bad, bad. Oh, well. Families will like it, I guess.

  1. bagladey says:

The dress is gorgeous, it’s the personality in it that’s ugly.

  2. Jack says:

    its cute

  3. umabrasileira says:

    Plain ugly.

  4. denise says:

Fug and those shoes are too. This girl hardly ever gets it right.

  5. KJ says:

Call me crazy, but that dress is forest green. Not black. And my computer screen is pretty good displaying colors properly.

  6. jen says:

It looks like a little chalkboard around her neck she could write messages on so she doesn’t have to talk to people.

  7. Workin says:

I adore that dress…and that’s difficult for me to say because i do NOT like this woman!!! But yes, i’ll agree the shoes are all sorts of WRONG!!! But i would really like to know who makes this dress

  8. denise says:

    lol!@ Jen
    🙂
But that would be too much effort on her part.

  9. Lara says:

Yes, that dress is green and those shoes are fug.

  10. serena says:

    totally fug.

  11. Kaiser says:

It seriously looks black to me. Not jet black, but a soft, greenish black. Weird.

Oh well, I’m not changing the title. HMMPH.

    *taking toys and leaving thread*

  12. Lynnie says:

Fug, fug, fug, fug, fug. And did I mention, “Fug”?

    🙂

  13. GatsbyGal says:

    Looks super dumb.

And I’m with you Kaiser – it’s black, just not jet-black.

  14. Amanda says:

    I loooove her shoes!

  15. locagirl says:

Meh. She is so annoying – WHY is she famous? She did one tv show like a hundred years ago and hasn’t done much since except have a baby and inexplicably show up in tabloids 24/7.

  16. gosh says:

i actually like the dress. its unique! i can admit though that her shoes are ugly. i like her persomality as well and i think she is a good actress.

    stop hating ppl!!!

  17. Kitten says:

I like the dress but I really hate her hair.

  18. ams1 says:

@ KJ, i’m def seeing green too.

  19. Annie says:

Love the gress (green dress?), hate the shoes, the person, worse than the whole gress (green mess).

  20. Dejasade says:

she’s gorgeous, but HATE those shoes! BLECH

  21. guesty says:

sorta kind of like it. but meh. & those shoes…wth is with this style lately? get it style! would love to see her walk in those.

  22. Bunny says:

    fug

  23. Maritza says:

The dress is shapeless and too short and the shoes are ugly too. Looks like the beehive hairdo is back, first Scarlet and now Jessica Alba.

  24. a says:

oh no! those shoes deserved better.

  25. andrea says:

don’t hate it, don’t really like it either. big meh. shoes are heinous frankenstein klompers.

  26. Jackson says:

Fug for the dress. Triple fug for the shoes. They are soooo heavy-looking and weigh the entire ensemble down. It would have looked 100% better had she chosen a strappy pair of sandals, something to echo the top of the dress. She herself, however, looks very good. And it pains me to say that…

  27. Stephy2185 says:

    oh so very fug

not as bad as the shoes though

  28. Sammie323 says:

But i would really like to know who makes this dress

According to JJ, the dress and shoes are Lanvin: “FYI: Jessica is wearing a forest green techno stretch-wool cocktail dress and black leather shoes with beige elastic ankle strap — both Lanvin!”

Why beige for the ankle strap?

  29. Cinderella says:

    Jen–LOL!

Those ankle straps ruin the shoes. Her body does look good in the dress, but as someone else indicated, it’s what’s underneath that sucks.

  30. gg says:

This looks like another ill-fitting Stella McCartney number.

  31. Kazoo81 says:

wtf is resting on her chest? it looks like a restaurant menu.

  32. p3rp3tu4 says:

What is that brick above her chest? A layer of cloth or a necklace? The dress is horrific! The designer put a pillowcase on, cut the bottom, sewed the side & plopped a brick on top. Weirdest thing ever.

    She however is a beauty!

  33. aenflex says:

    Cute!

  34. fashionfreak says:

take off that awkward ruffle on the left side and fix her posture, then it will look acceptable.

the shoes are interesting, but NOT with this dress

  35. guilty pleasures says:

As fug as the shoes. I used to wear a bullet proof vest at work, with a trauma plate, this reminds me of that!

  36. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Not for me. It’s forest green from the ‘Ick 2011’ Collection. The shoes and hair are a miss for me too, but as I’m a nobody, it doesn’t matter how powerfully awful I think her whole look is here.

  37. kelbear says:

beyond fug and the shoes too

  38. SolitaryAngel says:

Love the dress (it’s green on my screen too!) but the shoes are fugly.

  39. The Bobster says:

    Bad Russian hat hair.

    Bad Herman Munster shoes.

  40. marge says:

    need you ask??
I wish I could borrow it to clean after my cat.
At least they divert attention from the shoes…

  41. Isa says:

At first the dress looked navy to me…I guess it’s green? I can’t really tell.

I don’t like it but her face looks nice. The dress looks like she has a towel wrapped around her.

  42. Dhavy says:

    @ Jen –

    LOL-so true

  43. badrockandroll says:

I think that the straps on the shoes are beige so that you can spend hours staring at your screen wondering whether she is wearing nylon footlets with really wide elastic bands. Fug from the chin down.

  44. Eden says:

@ Amanda and “a”…we seem to be the small minority on the site that LOVE those shoes!!
The dress has some uniqueness to it and looks good on her, not spectacular but it’s alright.

  45. buzzaroo says:

Terrible dress and shoes but great make up and hair I reckon.

  46. Ruffian9 says:

    bagladey: Yup

  47. Travis says:

Is that a CD case around her neck? The dress would be cute w/out that part.

    Shoes: Frankenfug. Hair: Ditto.

  48. LuckyLilGem says:

Proof Jessica Alba would look hot even in a shapeless burlap bag!

  49. cherirlady says:

well, Alba still looks hot, but the dress is ugly!
