This morning Radar reported that Mel Gibson had gotten a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend/baby-mama Oksana Grigorieva. Radar’s sources were vague, and what I came away with was that Mel wanted to preemptively shut Oksana up about whatever damaging information she knows about him. All of that, under the guise of custodial issues. Now TMZ has a completely different take – their sources claim that Oksana was the one who requested the restraining order, and it was because Mel Gibson is/was violent towards her. Oh, but TMZ confirms that Mel did get a gag order on Oksana too, sorry, I just read that part.
TMZ has learned it was Oksana Grigorieva who got a domestic violence restraining order against Mel Gibson, and not vice versa … and she claims the actor was violent toward her.
We’ve learned Oksana’s lawyers went to the family law court in downtown L.A. last Monday for an emergency hearing, and told the judge that Mel allegedly got violent with her — two sources say Oksana claimed Mel was “extremely violent.”
Sources tell TMZ the judge issued a restraining order prohibiting Mel from having any contact with Oksana. We’re told the next day, Mel’s lawyers went back to court and got the order modified so Mel could see their daughter.
We’re told Mel also got a restraining order against Oksana, but only with respect to prohibiting her from releasing certain information.
A source connected with Mel Gibson scoffed at Oksana’s allegations, claiming the alleged incidents occurred this past January and she traveled with him afterwards — all over the world. As the source put it, “In these cases, when somebody cries wolf, the judge is mandated to assume there’s a wolf, until a full hearing can be held.”
A source connected with Oksana confirms the alleged violent incidents occurred in January, but added, “There were other acts after January that were not physical but still constituted domestic violence.”

Wait, the “source close to Mel Gibson” basically says that Mel didn’t beat Oksana because she continued traveling with him? That’s kind of f-cked up logic. Abused women often stay with their abusers, travel with their abusers, et cetera. But I do think there is a definite air of strangeness around this stuff. Could I buy that Mel beat Oksana? Sure. Especially if he was drinking. I think Mel would be capable of some pretty despicable acts while drinking. And even when he was sober, he seems like he could be a real bastard. But I do wonder if this is just a PR/legal/monetary play by Oksana. We’ll see.
UPDATE: Oh, snap! Oksana just gave an exclusive interview to Radar about this sh-t. Oksana just walked outside of her house (that Mel bought her!) and gave her statement to Radar: “He’s playing dirty. The truth will come out. What has been written is not true.” When Radar asked her to confirm that Mel hit her, she said: “I can’t talk about that.” But she did say that she filed her papers before Mel filed papers to get her to shut her mouth. Oh, and she says: “There’s not much I can say right now because it’s a child custody issue, and my lawyers have told me not to talk.” This woman could teach a course, I’m telling you.

As a survivor of domestic abuse (being strangled nearly unconscious a few feet from my infant son’s crib, for instance), I absolutely detest women who cry “abuse!” for attention, as a threat, or to get their way. It trivialises the struggles of those of us who have lived it, survived it; and those who didn’t make it out with their lives.
When I went through it, 20 years ago, it was a horrible ordeal just to get a restraining order. I had to “prove my case” to the court, and in order to do so, I had to re-live everything on paper from the most recent “incident of abuse” back to the very first one. It was awful and humiliating. Now, all a woman has to do is whisper “abuse” and the police take it from there. Too many of us ended up dead, so the laws changed; now an unscrupulous, vindictive woman can make a man’s life miserable if she so chooses. Bitch.

@ Fluffy Kitten Tail – Thank you. I am in an such a better place now. I have to say, though, I still have panic attacks if I see someone who looks like him, or drives the same kind of truck he drove, even all these years later.
When someone who is supposed to love you is hurting you, it can take awhile (or a very motivating catalyst) to report it. I was abused for 4 years, and I finally got out when he repeatedly threatened to have me killed and take our son. I knew it was only a matter of time until he abused our son, and not being alive to protect him motivated me to go into hiding.
I can tell you, an abused woman would not have the freedom to travel ANYWHERE without her abuser, let alone all over the world. Abusers are all about control. I had to call mine before I left the house, and again when I arrived wherever I was going. I had to report where I was, with whom, etc…I doubt she was truly abused.
Gibson just reeks of an abusing asshole to me.
Mel is a prick and has fallen far from the hottie he was, but I just don’t buy this story.

This situation seems different and self-serving. It’s clear that she has lawyered up. Perhaps something did happen in January. Maybe Mel was drunk. Maybe he was cycling from bipolar disorder. In January he quit smoking and acted cranky in a couple of interviews. This might have shocked her if she only knew warm and fuzzy Mel. But for her to file a restraining order months after they separated speaks to other motives.

Yes, domestic abuse is very serious. It’s not a tool for vengeful women to get even with a man for an actual or perceived “wrong”.
FYI, I am not defending Mel or his gold-digging side-dish: my issue is with women who falsely claim domestic abuse. Read about this gold-digger’s past with that former Bond actor, and maybe that’ll offer more insight as to her motives. Frankly, she leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Reminds me of the high school I went to. A girl claimed that a popular science teacher sexually assaulted her, and almost the entire student body took the teacher’s side. She was yelled at, bullied, and had trash thrown at her all the time at school. It got to the point that she dropped out because she couldn’t deal with it. Later, the truth came out and everybody found out that the teacher DID rape her (there was security vid proof). Did anybody apologize to the girl? Did anybody try to help her get through this hard time? Nope. Reasons like this are why I hate people sometimes.
@Whatever, you are right, there have never been any rumors of him being violent. The worst was when he smashed a paparazzi’s camera back in 1990 (when he was smashed himself after a night of drinking), and even then he immediately offered to pay for the camera.
He has been arrested twice for DUI and was verbally abusive to the cops both times (he admitted this about his first arrest during his playboy interview), but he never actually tried to assault the cops.
CNN’s article just says he filed a retraining order against her, that’s it. So he’s winning the PR war there. I had to check what Celebitchy is reporting to get the real story,haha. He seems like a jerk. She seems talented, intelligent and beautiful. I think he is too insecure to be with that caliber of woman.

Rape accusations are tricky when there is the possibility that the sex might have been consentual. That’s why some college dorms require students to sign permission forms before a student of the opposite sex can sleep over.
No question, domestic abuse is a serious problem. However, anyone involved in family law knows how false accusations are used as a weapon for child custody and/or money.

I do not believe Mel was physically violent . In all the stories told about his weaker moments when drinking etc, I never read that he struck somebody. If he were the type to do that, he most certainly would have struck the police officer who arrested him for the DUI, when he was drunk.

Have you read the article at People? This is ugly. Mel’s people say that in January “Oksana was completely out of control that day, screaming, and shaking Lucia like a ragdoll…Mel stepped in to stop her from injuring the baby…This is all an attempt to gain financial advantage over him.”
Another source says that Mel was with all his kids on Father’s Day except Lucia because of Oksana withheld her, in violation a custody agreement signed in May. Oksana’s people refuse to speak about the incident in January but say that the custody agreement is unfair.

why wait until now, I have been surfing the net and on Yahoo.com.au entertainment page it clearly states she traveled with Mel in Jan/Feb at HER insistence.
Also states she has been refusing Mel visitation rights to see the baby.

For those of you new to the Mel and Oksana debacle… Sincerity, Cathy T and Debbie have made some good comments. The four of us have been following all the drama as it unfolded throughout last year. I’ve been very critical of Mel, and yes, he has many faults; he’s an alcoholic, has mental issues and a bad temper. But Oksana is no babe in the woods. She is a professional mistress, with a reputation (and not a good one) for using men for money, social status and celebrity (one ex labeled her an “opportunist”). No one but her mother has ever had a nice word to say about her, and as I recall, mom told “People” that it was wonderful that her daughter had found someone to take care of her (sounds like a gold digger to me!). Oksana is delusional, demanding and self absorbed. She thought nothing of getting involved with a married man and “accidentally” getting pregnant. This time last year, when Mel was pouring money into her pathetic vanity project “music career” and lavishing her with attention and monetary gifts, she raved about what a gentleman he was. Something’s up, and this time I’m 100% behind Team Mel. I give him a lot of credit for maintaining a relationship with the baby; if it were up to me Oksana and the baby would get a big lump sum payment and two one way tickets to Moscow!

No, his history with women is why many of us are giving him the benefit of the doubt. Gibson was verbally aggressive to the cop that arrested him, but he didn’t physically attack him. He has never assaulted a photographer like Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, or any number of other celebs. And keep in mind that Gibson hates paparazzi so much that he produced a film about a family man action star who murders paparazzi and gets away with it.

@Pat…If Robyn had filed a restraining order against Mel I’d believe he was physically abusive. He may be a hot tempered misogynist, but there is no evidence of him being a physical abuser and in my mind he’s innocent until proven guilty on that charge. As Cathy T. just said, Oksana has no credibility, and she has had an agenda from day one. I for one am not jealous of her because I find women like her disgusting. Maybe this latest development began when she wanted him to spend Father’s Day with her and her meal ticket baby and he told her he planned on being with his other children at Robyn’s house. If I’m not mistaken, when the NE story broke about the sexual trysts between Mel Gibson and some porn star/producer, didn’t Oksana say in an interview that she would be willing to reconcile with Mel? If Mel Gibson was such “an abusive” deadbeat, why would she want him back? If their current child support/custody arrangement was so unfair, why did she sign it? She could have easily taken him to court just as he’s petitioning the court now and settled this matter without the unnecessary drama. I really feel sorry for little Lucia because it seems as if she’s being used as a pawn by a somewhat unstable, manipulative woman. I’ll pray for the both of them tomorrow during mass because as the primary custodial parent she needs “to chill out” and “collect her wits”.
After reading her interview with the UK Daily Mail, her motivation is crystal clear. She wants more money. I wonder how much child support she gets for her son? Timothy Dalton didn’t procure a multi-million dollar house for her, that’s for certain.
@Sincerity, in that interview right after the break-up she sounded open to a reconciliation. She also went out of her way to say that Mel is a loving father and that he was good with children. Now she tells the Daily Mail “I rescued my children and myself.”

Well, we are so quick to make judgement. This is a women who just happened to sleep with two stars and get pregnant. If she was so focused on her singing career, she certainly fooled me by having two kids.
Mel Gibson has what 8 kids and never once has there been any bad publicity regarding his parental duties.
Lets play Devils Advocate. Mel’s craziness stems from this woman black mailing him. As he is a big star and cannot afford the bad publicity (lol) how do we not know she was not threatening him if he didn’t give her money. She’s already got a house and apparently $5M for her singing career……………has anyone heard her music!
I say shame on her if this is what she set out to do and shame on him if he did what he is accused of. They both need to get off the radar, Im sick of reading about it!
