Well, this is strange news. Over the weekend, Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Facebook that he was a father – and that he wasn’t going to announce the baby-mama’s name. And that he has “exclusive guardianship” of his newborn son. What the hell? This is beyond Jude Lawesque shenanigans. People Magazine is now reporting the story, so although there were concerns that Ronaldo’s page had been hacked and the story was false (his Facebook page was suspended it seems, after the announcement), it’s looking more and more like it’s the truth:

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Saturday that he is a proud new papa.
“It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy,” the Team Portugal player writes on his Facebook page.
The identity of the baby’s mother has not been revealed, and Ronaldo, 25 – who once linked with Kim Kardashian and counts nearly 6.5 million fans on the social networking site – says that he will he will raise the boy on his own.
“As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential,” he writes, “my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.”
No further information was provided. 35,623 of his Facebook fans “liked” this announcement.

The Daily Mail reports that Portugese sources claim that the baby-mama is American, that she gave birth a month ago, and that Ronaldo’s family are still mid-way through formally bringing the kid to Portugal.
The first thought is that this is some kind of Ricky Martin thing, right? That Ronaldo is a gay man who wanted to become a father, so he contracted his “essence” out to an American girl for her to carry the baby? Except that I do think Ronaldo is straight. Isn’t he some kind of massive womanizer? So maybe the baby is a product of a one-night stand or something, and the woman just didn’t want to deal with the baby? I have no idea.
UPDATE: The Daily Mail reports that Ronaldo’s sister claims that the child was conceived with a surrogate. So it’s more Ricky Martin than Jude Law.

Given the demands on his time, it’s hard to imagine he’ll be much of a “hands-on” dad. Ricky Martin actually put his career on hold for awhile, but that’s not really an option for an athlete, with a career that’s short-lived by nature.

As many “straight” men that knock chicks up & run in this world, or get the girl pregnant & pay her child support or split custody without actually being in a partnership with the woman, this whole story screams “Awwwwwkward!” to me. Total Ricky martin move. & NO I’ve never seen the sexual appeal in this dude, just another flamer/ closet case IMO…

Who refers to the rearing of their child as an “exclusive guardianship” This is what in my family we call shenanigans.
I have been watching the EPL for years (Arsenal Fan) where up until last year he was with ManU. I have always thought he tried too hard to let us know he is straight. He is lovely to look at though.

I don’t follow soccer, so have never seen him other than in still photos. Based on that, I would say gay, without a doubt. Closeted, obviously, but flamer all the way. Perhaps he paid for incubation services for this mystery child.

Since when does being a womanizer means that a guy isn’t gay? I don’t know about this baby situation. It’s seems extremely odd. I can’t imagine him wanting a child considering his lifestyle, professional and personal.

Yeah, the “exclusive guardianship” sounds like an underage baby-mama giving the baby up to CR and he’s turning the child over to his family to raise for the day-to-day stuff, I suppose until his career is finished.
I can’t imagine what possessed him to announce that kind of thing on Facebook, I wonder if he’s the one who asked that his page be suspended. Sort of a “ruh roh” moment. What a dork. It’s one thing to be proud to be a papa, but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be involved much – it’s not like the public is going to be seeing him with the kid, he’s hardly a reclusive guy, what is he going to haul the baby around when he’s trolling for strange?

Yeah…this guy oozes oily, gay vibes. I don’t think his well publicized “romances” with Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashawhore mean anything, they’re a little too convenient if you ask me. Guys can go overboad with the metrosexuality, but this guy looks like he spends his days at the beauty parlor.

I googled this and “reputable” news websites are saying this is fact. CR also tweeted this (account is verified).
Facebook so easy to hack, but one of the news websites out of the UK said the model he is dating said rather snarkily on her Facebook, “My friend suddenly became a father” (or to that effect). Not “my boyfriend…” So it’s really weird that situation.
I’m gonna say definitely not a surrogate. CR is only 25. what multi-millionnair global playboy would want kids now if he’s not gonna be a full-time parent? he’s fobbing the kid off to his mum. likely won’t have much of a role as he’s too busy partying and playing soccer.

Gay or straight, NO 25 year old playboy with a hot career and more money than God would pick this stage in his life for all kinds of complicated medical fertility procedures. In a pressure-heavy World Cup year to boot. That makes zero sense.

I don’t think he is gay , maybe is because I’m use to the euro trash look.
He has talked about wanting since 2007 and in a recent interview he talked about this might happen sooner rather than later.
The baby was born in June and from what I heard there was some paternity test done. I think he got someone pregnant and pay her off.
His sister did not say it was a surrogate , read the dailymail report and they don’t provide you with any quote in which she says that. They give you quote from how the baby looks but none in which she say’s it was a surrogate.

If I was a wealthy man and wanted a baby but no no wife or paying baby mama support, or having any kind of claim against my money, I’d:
1. See a lawyer to draft up a contract.
2. Get future mother to sign it.
3. Above all NEVER actually sleep with her, Court tend to find that a relationship.
4. speak to her only through my lawyers
5. Finally: collect baby and make final payment.
There now you got your baby and no baby mama drama – Then back to condom sex with beautiful women.

I don´t think he is gay, I think that common things are common and seldom things are seldom. So: I guess he had non-safer-sex, maybe with a younger girl, that´s all. And before all that stuff will go through the tabloids he is paying.

Gotta gove it to him for owning up on it and expressing wanting to be actively involved in his baby sons life and not pulling a Jude Law.
I dont think he used a surrogate because gay sounds more like he accidentally knocked a girl up but is taking responsibility. he is so young and has active career so i dont think he would have chosen to father a child right now (naturally or via surrogate if he is gay).

I come from the same place as Ronaldo, so he doesn’t look gay to me since a lot of them look like that there. He looks more sleazy than anything. And I find it hard to beleive he would plan this with a surrogate at the age of 25 and the height of his career. I very much doubt it, but you never know.
