Elin Woods’ settlement will be around $100 million, not $750 million

Before the holiday weekend, most outlets were repeating the story that Elin Woods had already snared a whopping $750 million settlement in her divorce from former golfing great Tiger Woods. That story originated in British newspaper The Sun and seemed to confirm the rumors that Elin would receive a settlement in the jaw-dropping range of $700 million.

The news was either premature or just not true, according to TMZ. They have Elin winning the divorce lottery to the tune of a relatively reasonable $100 million. It’s still a huge amount of money and much more than her prenup stipulated, but not quite the 3/4 of a billion that we thought. As part of her settlement, Elin reportedly agreed to a confidentiality clause that would bar her from talking to the media or writing a book. I was really hoping to get to know Elin through some kind of semi-tell all interview, but it looks like that’s never going to happen.

Tiger Woods’ soon-to-be ex-wife is about to become an independently wealthy woman, but we’ve learned she’s legally prohibited from blabbing about it.

Sources tell TMZ Elin Nordegren and Tiger have agreed to a confidentiality clause as part of their divorce settlement. So Elin can’t go on “Oprah,” she can’t do interviews, and she can’t write a book.

But what she gets in return is nothing to sneeze at. TMZ broke the story, Elin will snag about $100 million in the settlement … way more than she was entitled to under the prenup.

Why, you ask, would Tiger give her more than she’d get under the prenup? Other than guilt, Tiger wanted to avoid a trial at all costs … the testimony would have been beyond messy.

Tiger is worth around $500 – $600 million, according to TMZ. Elin will also receive a no-doubt hefty monthly child support payment along with that sweet settlement.

Fox News has a slideshow of the most expensive celebrity divorces, completed when it was thought that Tiger’s divorce was record-setting. Now we know that Michael Jordan’s $168 million settlement in his 2002 divorce is still the largest celebrity divorce settlement on record. Neil Diamond’s $150 million 1995 settlement is a close second.

Meanwhile Tiger is trying to claw his way back to the top of his sport despite his neck injury. He finished a respectable fifth in the U.S. Open two weeks ago, having won the tournament in 2008, 2002, and 2000. He didn’t fare as well at the AT&T National this weekend, though, and placed 14th.

The two married in October 2004 and Nordegren gave birth to a daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, in June 2007. A son, Charlie Axel Woods, was born on February 8, 2009. The couple has recently found themselves embroiled in some scandal after Tiger crashed his vehicle into a tree and fire hydrant during an alleged quarrel with Elin. It is being theorized that the fight was due to some extramarital activities that Mr. Woods had been partaking in. Fame Pictures, Inc

I always suspected the $750 million was high, and I question the $100 million figure too, though it is probably closer to the truth. I’m just glad the drama is about to end. It’s always sad when a marriage do not work, but the ending of this one has been awful.

Beyond a certain level of wealth, what does it matter – 100 million or 750 million? Particularly since her children will be probably taken care of separately.

You can only wear one set of clothes at a time and sleep in one bed per night. After a point, it’s just numbers on a page.

  3. Teig says:

I’ll keep this short…this is the saddest divorce of all time.

  4. tiki says:

oh, man, if we start talking about sad divorces, the list will be endless. for me, prince charles and princess diana rank up there as the saddest.

  5. Hautie says:

If you ever watch Charles Barkley doing interviews, he has always talked about how incredibly cheap Tiger Woods is… so for Tiger to give up 100 Million to Elin is stunning.

And I bet Charles Barkley fell off his chair when he heard it. haha!

So I am going to assume, is what ever it is Tiger was afraid of Elin could tell, was alot more interesting than we will ever know. Tiger did not part with that 100 million out of the kindness of his heart. Or just because he is a nice guy.

Yet, until he can get back to shagging those homely hookers in Vegas, he is not going to get his groove back.

Besides the tabloids and blogs did anybody really believe the $750 million? That didn’t make any sense considering that it was the majority of his wealth. As for the confidential agreement, I doubt there’s anything Elin could add that we don’t know. The only thing she would say his how devastated she was. Besides I don’t think she’s a mediawhore. She only goes to a handful of tournaments and she doesn’t go clubbing and celebrity events.

I’m assuming she caved on her stand that she wanted full custody then. She was already making plans to buy a house fairly close to the monstrosity he’d been building a month-ish ago.

When he tours, he always practically ignores his family anyway (unless he wins, then he trots them out for the cameras), so I’m sure that’s when she’ll whisk them away to Sweden.

  8. Persistent Cat says:

Yesterday, Crazy Days and Nights had its Blind Items Reveal day. One of the reveals was about Tiger’s dad. When he went on tour with him, the dad would have a hotel room where he would bang women. Sometimes the tournament people supplied him with women (sneeze – hookers). Guess we can see where Tiger learned to respect women.

  9. call-in says:

god she’s beautiful. tig fucked up

  10. Marjalane says:

Didn’t he give 10 million to one of his skanks so she’d keep HER mouth shut? Elin only gets 10X that? Seems a little low to me, but overall it confirms that Tiger Woods is one sick, freaky pig! I’d like to think he’ll never get another endorsement, but Americans have short memories.

  11. southssweets says:

On some other entertainment/gossip sites I’ve seen people laying into Elin. Gold digger this and that…it’s ridiculous to me. She didn’t do this to herself. She deserves whatever she gets IMO. End of story!

  12. a says:

if that $100 million settlement includes a gag order it’s way too low.

  13. lucy2 says:

I don’t think she has any interest in talking to the media or making any kind of public statement. I’d imagine she just wants it all (and him) to go away.

You’d think Tiger would have learned from his good buddy Michael Jordan how pricey all that skanking around can be!

  14. Raven says:

Reason number 323 why not to get married if you are famous.

No reason for it. None. You can only turn down tail so many times before you cave.

  15. Mairead says:

I’m normally pretty “meh” on these adultery cases, but this one is so beyond the pale even the ancient Gaelic tribes are flummoxed by this f*ckery.

This scumbag used this woman for a veneer of respectability and to avoid media speculation on his nastiness; he left her open to disease and the infections that can cause cervical cancer countless times – and yet she’s only worth monetarily 10 times one of these worthless bimbos? Cheap doesn’t even begin to cover it.

    Tiger Woods cheapens humanity.

  16. alex says:

“former golf great” I think he is still a great golfer just because he is a cheater and a douche does not mean he is not still a great golfer even though he is playing crappy now

  17. bellaluna says:

Tell you what: my silence would cost A LOT more than that; unless the silence has an expiration date or that $100M doesn’t include future earnings, it’s too low!

  18. ks says:

You don’t see Sandra Bullock in the news about divorce settlements, only the women who were dependent on their wealthy partners, how sad….how would they survive life if they didn’t marry a cash machine?!?

  19. mel says:

I think it’s a fair settlement and Elin doesnt seem like the type to go running to the media to “tell all” about her relationship with Tiger especially if it means her kids would be exposed in the media again. I hope she finds happiness in the future.

  20. Emily says:

I think she should get half of whatever he’s worth. Surely his whoring around rendered their pre-nup void, and add to that the confidentiality agreement… She deserves more.

  21. Aspie says:

That was a reasonable settlement. She got what she deserved. She didn’t earn $750 million, so $100 mil is a pretty fair amount, after all she’s not a golfing great.
