Angelina Jolie has been confirmed for Comic-Con, which will begin the week after Salt opens (it opens a week from tomorrow). Salt’s prodcuers announced a few months ago that there would be heavy promotion at Comic-Con, but it was unknown until know that Angelina would appear. It’s not shocking – it’s not Angelina’s first time. In fact, many Hollywood and nerd-watchers credit Angelina for bringing Comic-Con into the mainstream, when she went all-out for a 2002 appearance. At that point, Comic-Con was really just a total nerdfest and no movie stars ever showed up to promote their work. Angelina made a big splash too – she touched down in a helicopter and it got her and the festival of nerds so much press. Let’s see if she makes magic again:
There’s been speculation, but now I have confirmation: Angelina Jolie is heading to Comic-Con, I’ve been told.
Jolie is one of the very few actresses who opens action movies, and her latest, “Salt,” opens the Friday during the Con, which runs from Wednesday, July 21, to Sunday, July 25.
Columbia, which is releasing “Salt,” will be showing off its wares on Thursday and Friday, and “Salt” is being staged after the “Battle: Los Angeles” presentation Thursday.
Jolie will be on that stage.The actress’ appearance has been speculated ever since it was known that the studio would make “Salt” part of their Hall H presentation. But the actress has been everywhere promoting the movie, and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t show up there to make one powerful impression on the people who eat action movies up.
Columbia had no comment.
Now the other question still unanswered is whether Brad Pitt will make an appearance. Pitt is part of the voice cast in DreamWorks Animation’s “Megamind,” and while the company has said cast members Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill and director Tom McGrath will be at the Con, Pitt’s involvement has yet to be confirmed.

I am a general film nerd, although not a specifically sci-fi/fantasy nerd. Ten bucks says there’s at least one photo of Angelina with a Hobbit. Who will take that bet?

I would love to go. I actually like those kind of people who are so passionate about a movie. Crazy and off beat.. but it seems like a really fun time. I will admit I am a crazy person about Star Trek.. seen EVERY episode and movie. Not a Nerd about it. but give me a plot point and it is on.

Comic Con has turned into big bucks and big buzz for movies. I guess they finally figured out that the “nerds” are the ones who spend the cash and spread the word!
I’d like to go, but more to see the Mythbusters, Glee and True Blood panels, and I would have climbed over people to get into Lost, so sad it’s done.
Lets see, desperate for a hit? AJ last 3 movies Wanted 341 million worlwide, King Fu Panda 631 million, Changeling 113 million so 1.1 billion for movies released in 2008. Salary for Salt and the Tourist $20 million + percentages. Desperate I Don’t think so.
I think it’s funny that whenever she’s got a film coming out, she does these vamp/sexy photo shoots-like, what does that have to do with Salt?

of course, when it was kung fu panda, she was more subdued, it was a kids’ film after all…
and for some of her other films, she amped up the overseas PR/UNHCR spots.
Anyway, not a fan or a foe-i’m neutral with her. And these pics are good. She’s iconically beautiful/old school glamour type, IMO. And, yea, you can’t hate the fact that she opens action films. That’s cool…and she obv. brings the fans.
Comic Con was much cooler before it got overrun with Twi-tards.

I was just talking with someone about the lack of female action stars. I don’t care for Angelina in dramas, but she does do action well – except Wanted, she was too skeletal in that to be convincing, IMO. I’m not interested in Salt, but there are few actresses who are convincing in action roles. It’d be nice to see more – TV does it well and often, you’d think the movies would too.
God, she’s everywhere. Are we sure she hasn’t been cloned?

These photos don’t look like she’s trying to be vampy to me at all. As for sexy, I really don’t think she can help it and it doesn’t look like she’s trying too hard if that’s the case.

Not trying to nit pick, just seems like strange things to criticize her about.
#8, right on. She’s trying to save her career and sell the movie. Talking about religion, family, her mother, repainting her childhood in sunny colors as a happy cool kid. She’s all over the map, so transparent. The humanitarian schtick backfired, so it was time for a new persona. Scary to watch dummies lap it up with a spoon.
I love those fests, you can meet the most interesting folks. Matter of fact the first one I went to I stepped out to smoke (back in college I smoked) and asked a smoking person dressed as a Klingon for a light and they would only respond to my questions in the Klingon language… needless to say I never got a light, never quite determined if I was getting yelled at or if that was simply the Klingon dialect so I just backed away slowly. On the upside I found some bootlegged ‘Electra Woman and Dyna Girl’ episodes from the old saturday morning Kroft Superstar Hour.
Her movies don’t do well. If accurate, those are worldwide figures on movies that have been out for a few years. They always use worldwide figures to say a movie’s not a flop. Yes, maybe after every single country in the world has been counted, and over several years, the number will hit what it should have been out of the gate. Real hits are far more than that when worldwide. Many countries also are reportedly hungry for any entertainment and would perhaps watch most anything. Seems like when Hollywood has a flop on its hands, it now relies on foreign sales as a safety net. Agreed with @21, it’d be good to have more female action films, there are some actresses who’d be great.

Changling wasn’t a hit but still earned her an Oscar nomination.
And she is one of 5 actresses that can get a movie greenlit so yes her movies do well.
I really like action movies, and I thought Wanted wasn’t bad. Angelina is one of the very few action femmes who makes it work, even as skinny as she is. Good to see she gained a few.
This summer has been really disappointing. I hated Iron Man 2. I hope Inception and Salt are good. I want to see a good film!

A lot of big movies and actors go to Comic-Con. It’s not a desperation move. Funny how nobody is saying Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill are desperate for attending or when Johnny Depp attended last year. I don’t consider these photos sexy and vampy but sophisticated. For the most part most female photoshoots are done in a sexy way. I don’t know why people are Angelina is an exception in doing sexy photoshoots.

When you compare these shots to the candid of her in the white dress, she looks much different, much older and I don’t like her big horsey looking teeth/ mouth when she smiles.

Beautiful by any definition. And I have seen plenty of candids. Beauty is a matter of personal taste. And if she is not yours fine.. maybe it would be best to skip threads about her. All the talk about her promoting her film.. DUH that is a part of the job. PROMOTE your film and she is doing it quite will. AND those pictures are really stunning. She has on all her cloths, not flashing her breast or ass and not really showing any skin. How is that sexing it up is beyond me. Some people may want to check out the other celeb covers.
Salt will do great I hope and IT looks fun. Just a great summer ride. Can’t wait to see it. OH and her appearance at Comic-Con will be BIG.. get ready for the coverage. Gosh I wish I could be there.
