Solange Knowles has a few words of advice for Jamie Lynn Spears

Beyonce’s little sister, Solange, who you just know totally wishes she were Beyonce, was recently interviewed about her experience as a teen mother. Solange seems to think that she is famous for something other than being Beyonce’s little sister and that her opinion matters to anyone, but I digress. Anyway, she was just 18 when she had her son, along with a quickie marriage to the baby’s father that ended almost as soon as the kid was born. Jamie Lynn, pay attention to that last part!

Solange Knowles knows the challenge of being a famous teen mother.

Knowles, now 21, welcomed son Daniel in 2004 at the age of 18 (she split with husband, former college football player Daniel Smith, after the baby was born).

“I’m sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom,” Knowles told Usmagazine.com during a recent visit.

But Knowles pointed out, “I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible.”

What advice does she have for the 17-year-old mom-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears?

“You just have to make the best decisions for you,” Knowles said. “You have to decide what’s best for you.

“Who are we to say what’s right and wrong for a person?”

To focus on raising her son, Knowles said she “moved to the country for a year” without any nannies or babysitters.

“My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world,” she said. “My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born.”

“He’s been the light of my life,” she added, “the inspiration behind everything.”

[From Us Weekly]

It’s an inspiring story and all, but let’s be real: nobody knew who the hell Solange Knowles was before she was a knocked up teen. Unlike Jamie Lynn, who will be followed all over Louisiana by the paparazzi until she gives birth, and then after the birth, she will be hounded just like her sister was, just waiting for her to screw up this kid. And I have to take issue with the statement “You have to do what’s best for you.” No, you have to do what’s best for YOUR BABY. Because once you are pregnant and have a baby, you don’t come first anymore. You know what? I think I am going to pay a little visit to US Weekly so I can give Jamie Lynn some parenting advice she can actually use.

Jamie Lynn Spears is shown in Louisiana on 4/10/08, thanks to Splash. Solange Knowles is shown at 40/40 Club Grand Opening in Las Vegas on 12/30/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

I like Solange Knowles, but it just goes to show you that marring some one (particularly so young) for the reason to prevent some small minded and idiotic people from calling your child a ‘bastard’ is wrong and it will never work. I really hope JL does not marry her boyfriend, even if she thinks she loves him it still will never be enough because people change.

JL seems like a intelligent enough girl and should concentrate on her self and her child first, then all this marriage nonsense.

I agress with her, your either a good Mom or you not. Age is not a factor.

There seem to be a lot of those -name redacted- posts popping up on different threads. I call spam.

And I thought Solange was going to give Jamie Lynn advice about being a no-talent living in the shadow of a more talented no-talent.

you can complain about the spam but please do not mention the name of the site in your post. I have to go through and delete all their posts and that is just more free advertising for them.

I am moving the comments back to the site this weekend so that we have more control over the spam so hopefully this is the last day you guys have to put up with this.

why is solange going around dispensing so much advice to people about pregnancy? does she think she is the only one who has been pregnant? she was yabbering on the other day about beyonce and advice on baby rearing and how beyonce calls her all the time when she is babysitting and blah blah Im such a capable mother. I wish she would shut up and stop acting like she is useful. i’d rather hear from a poor inner city teen mother on her coping mechanisms and what she does to make do rather than these teen mothers who come from uber wealthy families with all the support systems in the world and access to the best of everything. i dont even think spears and solange should even count as teen pregnancies, given the fact that what bothers us about teen pregnancies is a whole host of issues regarding education, economic concerns, support, health care, etc that does not in the least apply to hollywood’s teen mothers.

This is the type of girl my mother warned me about. TOO hot for me to handle! just take a look at her pics on Richkiss.com. I would not email her. Too beautiful.

Why does everyone have to criticize Beyonce’s little sister? She’s telling the truth! I was a mom at 18 and yes you do have to do what’s best for you because when you’re that young and a mom everyone else thinks they can just take over.

  7. Draya says:

Amen Bros! Besides the immaturity factor, which doesn’t exactly cut off at some “magic” age, the biggest concern for teen moms is lack of resources and the stigma of being unmarried. People are disgusted that they may be spending their tax dollars on you and your “bastard” children even if that’s not the case. They say “it takes a village to raise a child”. Anyways, I was a teen mom and felt the shame placed on me by others. But you can’t go back and undo pregnancy (unless, well, you know). You have to WANT to accept parenting and let it manifest naturally. No doubt, when you’re wealthy you have access to more help but it doesn’t neccessarily make you a better parent. Neither money nor age guarantees a normal, happy, well-adjusted child.

Does Solange have an album coming out or something? Coffee table book? Line of weaves and wigs maybe?

  9. mollination says:

    haha headache!

I was thinking the same thing when she said “Do what’s right for YOU” and I’m not even a mom! You have a baby now! Do right by the BABY!

I think the thought of a celeb mom is more frightening than a teen mom. They sure are more self-centered!

I also had my first baby at 18 and I agree with the people that say you don’t do what’s best for YOU you do what’s best for the BABY. I did marry my son’s father before he was born and we’ll have been married 5 years this year and are now expecting baby #2. We also have our own insurance and were never on walfare. We both stepped up to the plate and moved out of our parents’ houses and into our own apartment as soon as we found out I was pregnant. We didn’t have much money but we made it work, so yes it can be done and not all young marriages end if you’re willing to work on it and be responsible adults.

    I’m sorry, I meant welfare.

  12. The Old KC says:

Hi – I’d just like to point out that I’ve been posting here as KC for over a year, and I’m not the same person as the KC who posted above. I will pick another name. Other KC, kudos to you for trying to build a strong family unit for you and your son – that is really what it’s all about, no matter what your age.

I had my soon-to-be-four year old at the ripe old age of 30, and I was COMPLETELY UNPREPARED for what parenthood would be like. I had a really tough time adjusting – I think because I had spent 30 years doing whatever I wanted. Suddenly this living, breathing person needed me constantly and nobody else could help. No matter what your age, parenthood brings so many challenges – I understand that Solange is trying to be encouraging but I agree with what everyone else has said about celebrity teen moms really not having a clue what it’s like in the real world. They can just retire to their posh penthouse apartments and nannies and pretty much keep living life like nothing happened.

  13. The Old KC says:

Forgot to say – henceforth, I will be known as “The Old KC”! Because I really am feeling old – LOL.
