Rumer Willis’ tiny waist and black tie: unfortunate or chic?

wenn2940677

My first reaction when I saw these photos – from Tuesday’s Darker Side of Green debate panel – was that Rumer Willis needs to get it together. A girl with that kind of large, oblong-shaped face should not wear anything that draws the eye up. Of course, my first reaction whenever I look at photos of Rumer is “This poor girl needs to stop with the red carpets.” But now that I’ve given the photos a thorough look, I have to admit, this might not be Rumer’s worst look.

The haircut is definitely one of her best ever. And she’s very slender, isn’t she? The pencil skirt emphasizes her tiny little waist, so that’s good. The blouse is “eh” – the sleeves are strange, and not in a good, high-fashion way. The blouse is see-through as well, so now I know that Rumer wears black bras under white blouses (a big faux pas for my Southern mom). As for the black tie – well, it’s kind of jaunty and cute.

So why was my immediate reaction to hate on Rumer? I don’t know. This isn’t a bad red carpet appearance. I guess I just wonder why Rumer insists on walking red carpets and being an “actress”. Oh well. You win again, Rumer.

never noticed those moles on her right cheek, they are like “connect the dots”

  2. CandyKay says:

Maybe she should try being a character actress, instead of attempting to be a glamour girl, which fits her poorly.

Meryl Streep isn’t conventionally pretty either, but her talent and her positive spirit make her beautiful.

  3. ShanWOW says:

Harsh much? The girl has an unfortunate collection of genes but she shouldn’t have to hide in the closet like a monster.

  4. Emily says:

I like the outfit, although you’re right about the sleeves. I don’t like her makeup though. I think she should ditch the eyeliner for some heavy mascara/falsies to make her eyes look bigger, they’re tiny!

  5. bagladey says:

That’s a cute shirt and it’s a great ensemble for the office but it certainly is not red carpet attire in my opinion. If Rumer wants to be in show biz maybe she should look into something BEHIND the camera; nothing wrong with that.

  6. LindaR says:

    @shanwow

I agree. This girl certainly isn’t eye candy but at least she tries. We need to question our obsession with looks. She’s not hurting anyone (think Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods, what’s his name that was married to Sandra Bullock, and other a##holes that have been discussed on this site). If she’s a nice person leave her alone. If she’s a dickhead the gloves are off.

  7. gillie says:

i like her. she was the best part of sorority row. shes one of those people who look really likeable; i would love to have a beer with her.

  8. LOVE ANGELINA says:

It looks a little sloppy to me. Also doesn’t seem to be an appropriate outfit choice for the event she attended. I think Rumor should have worn a simple cute cocktail dress. I like her, I thought she was great in The House Bunny, I do plan on seeing Sorority Row but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

  9. Lala11_7 says:

When Meryl was younger…when she started out…she was the epitome of “classic beauty”…high cheek bones…wide eyes…thin nose…

I find Rummer to be absolutely strange looking…which isn’t a bad thing…I just don’t think she’s found her niche in terms of hairstyles…she should let my girl hook her up!!!

  10. Michelle78 says:

It must suck when your mom is hotter than you. ::that’s all::

  11. LolaBella says:

I like her outfit; especially the pencil skirt and the shoes.

She looks like Kat Von D. in that bottom pic.

  12. dvz says:

I wonder if she is waiting until her bones have absolutely stopped growing (somewhere between 18 and 20) to get a chin reduction and jaw refinement. Not going to help her lack of talent and personality, but damn her looks are distracting, and not in a good way.

  13. Hautie says:

Has anyone ever seen pictures of Dita Von Teese before she was “Dita” and figured out how to wear her makeup to flatter her face? She looks just like Rumer!

So I agree that Rumer is a unique girl that needs to find her “look”. Her complexion is incredible and skin tone is perfect.

But I have yet to see her makeup applied to flatter her features. And fake eyelashes would be a positive. They really do wonders.

Plus she needs to fire who ever talks her into the bizarre haircuts. Rumer would look great if she grew out her curly hair and wore it loose. Fighting the curl* is never going to end well.

(*I didn’t figure that out till I was 30. Don’t fight the curls.)

  14. dre says:

Someone please give her a pair of tweezers for them eyebrows!

  15. Heather says:

    She looks good.

  16. jen says:

    Woof!

  17. Tess says:

She’s reminds me of a young Marlene Dietrich…she’s got that tough, cynical, smoky nightclub kind of look.

  18. Ashley says:

I feel like her right eye is trying to escape and bitch slap me…I mean there is wonky eye and then there is wonky eye! Bless her heart.

  19. bite me says:

poor potato head, hollyweird is about about image and unfortunately your looks and lack of latent is not going to cut it, poor, poor thing

  20. I think the makeup is working against her. I hated the outfit yesterday, but today (maybe it is my coffee) I like it. Back to the makeup – the red calls attention to her thin lips and how large her chin is. Hmmm.

  21. gg says:

@CandyKay: (at the risk of sounding rude, meryl streep is no great beauty but isn’t ugly and doesn’t have a disproportionate face like this girl.

  22. meme says:

@Tess – She reminds you of Marlene Dietrich? Put your glasses on and take another look:-)

  23. EllenP says:

I wish she’d close her mouth for a few seconds.

  24. Milan says:

Mein Gott, is it just me or does she look like a preying mantis about to pounce. Thank God she is young and can get away with looking peculiar. But what happens when she hits 40, will she metamorphose in
to the horror that is Sarah Jessica Parker? or Maybe she’ll settle into her face…banging body though.

  25. Tess says:

    @ Meme

    LOL!!!!!!

  26. Brooke says:

It’s too bad she looks like Bruce in drag. She doesn’t have to be a beauty but she could at least wear the proper size; get out of your mom’s closet, kid.

  27. snowball says:

@Hautie, you beat me to it. Looking at the main pic before I clicked in, I thought she had the vague look of Dita. If anyone’s seen pics of Demi’s late mom, Rumer’s the spitting image of her (Demi, pre-plastic, a bit masculine) plus a tiny bit of Bruce, it’s very eerie.

I think she’s got an unusual look that probably doesn’t photograph that well all the time. I’ve seen other pics of her where she looks very striking, more candid pics than this kind of posed shot (I think they were of her at Fashion Week with her boyfriend). She seems to wear a lot of oddball couture stuff, which doesn’t work all that well.

Money isn’t always a good thing when it comes to fashion if you don’t have the, I guess you’d call it “stature” (?) to pull it off.

  28. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

I really like her style and she looks good here.

Thank god she’s (so far) resisted what must be enormous pressure to have her face sawed off just to look like every other franken-hottie in Hollywood. Maybe she’s learned from her mother’s mistakes? I respect her for that. She seems to work hard and from what I’ve read, she isn’t an entitled little snot.

  29. Lisa Turtle says:

Well this might be mean… but it makes me just a little happy to see that no amount of money can fix the ugly this girl was born with.

  30. Phat girl says:

Ashley: your comment makes me think you are a southern girl. Down here we always say Bless her heart when we have something delicate to say about someone we like. Also, Hautie I got the Dita Von Teese vibe when I saw her in these pics too! I don’t think she looks bad at all. I just think she’s young and hasn’t come into her own yet. I think her mom may have influenced her starlet style and she just hasn’t figured out that that may not be the best style for her. I think she will blossom out just fine. Love the outfit.

  31. denise says:

This goes to prove that two hot parents don’t always make a good looking baby.
On another note, I like her outfit and am loving her shoes.

  32. Allie says:

    chic!

  33. aenflex says:

Everything but the legs, she needed hose or spray tan or dermabrasion or something. They look like the legs of a 10 yeard old.

  34. Jenny Wood says:

good example of bad red lipstick

  35. Katie says:

I feel bad for her, because really, her face and features are exactly like her moms…but stretched out over an extra foot of face. That chin.

  36. azzedine says:

i have a desire to watch ‘the elephant man’ for some reason.

  37. denise says:

    @ Katie

    Lol!!!!!!

  38. Poopie says:

Can we not get plastic surgery to reconstruct that chin??? i’m sure mom and dad would pay !

  39. Cletus says:

she just looks so ODD, though. May I suggest a burka?

  40. denise says:

    @ CLetus

bwwwaaahhh!!! I actually laughed out loud.
    🙂

  41. mln says:

The outfit is hot, the face is terrible, I feel bad for Rumor she had nothing to do with herself except be an actress, or else go to parties for the rest of her life. She better get her chin fixed.

  42. gg says:

She looks like Dita to me.

The red lipstick makes dark-haired women look like they have a moustache.

  43. ksmit says:

she could be such a lovely girl if she got some face framing layers and always opted for a nude or pale pink lip with heavy emphasis on her eyes. maybe go back to the red hair she had in sorority row, too. it really made her stand out even though she was supposed to be nerdy! yes, i saw sorority row. yes, i know that means i suck at life.

  44. Me says:

It’s okay. I could have been much much much worse!

  45. CB Rawks says:

heheh Actually ksmit, I’m here to talk about another movie with Rumer in it, so I suck at life too. 😀
But truly it was a good movie and SHE was surprisingly good. Maybe I had zero expectations of her, so I was pleasantly surprised.
The movie is called From Within and it stars that sexpot Thomas Dekker from Terminator Chronicles. Plus it’s scary-awesome.

  46. jessica says:

I wonder if Demi was on coke when she was preggo… hhhmm

  47. Ron says:

She looks like a waitress/stewardess in this outfit.

  48. itzbilehbitch says:

only a kid this fugly could pop out of demi moore.

  49. Cam says:

    I just don’t like her… at all.
But I kinda like the skirt, and yes… the black tie is cute.

  50. onyx says:

every time I look at a picture of her it makes me think of funhouse mirrors.
maybe she has them at her house and they make her look normal. kind of a reverse effect.??????

  51. hellen says:

If there was ever a perfect candidate for lip enhancement and cheek implants, she’s it. It might take away from that Ms. Potato Head thing she’s got going on.

  52. Cazza says:

It’s as if someone took bruces head and threw demis face onto it and forgot to make it proportionate..like a bad photoshop pic..
poor girl nice features, they just don’t go with that large head.

  53. Kitten says:

Yes she must have lip injections and cheek implants because we want everyone to look EXACTLY like Heidi Montag *eye roll*.
    I echo CandyKay’s sentiments…

  54. Bernice says:

Has she had a nose job? She has an very thin nose for one that is natural. She has unusual features. Large face, small eyes, thin nose, large chin. It’s as if the parts don’t belong together. I could abide her more if I thought she (or her mother) were more talented. But they a r e n ‘ t……

  55. yes please says:

chin reduction, chin reduction, it works arnie did it when he first came to hollywierd.. she needs it asap…

  56. Moore says:

I think she’s fine. I like that she hasn’t rushed out to change her face cause then you know people would be talking bad about her for it. She’s fine, she’s a good actress and she looks like she likes herself. What (or who) else matters?

  57. Fae says:

I like the outfit, and don’t really get why people are so obsessed with the lower half of her head. Isn’t the red carpet homogenous and bland enough for you people already?!

  58. Dee says:

That’s a transvestite version of Bruce Willis!

  59. hmmhmm says:

    @candy kay
Ms. Streep is ridiculously talented and beautiful. http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Oscar_Stars/meryl-streep-oscars-2010-stars-famous/story?id=9925019&page=3

I believe that was a college picture of her.

  60. Cinderella says:

I feel so bad for her because she has so many cute features. It’s just that damn chin. Can’t her mom hook her up?

  61. original kate says:

i think she should adopt a dita von teese, 1940s, meticulously groomed look. i think it would work for her.

  62. GatsbyGal says:

Dear sweet lord, she really is just so hideous. Poor chick must feel like crap – she had two smokin’ hot parents and ended up looking like Joseph Merrick.

From the nose up, she’s Demi. From the nose down, she’s Bruce in lipstick.

  63. Jaxx says:

I have never understood why people with obvious facial moles don’t have them taken off. They just gross me out.

  64. Camille says:

original kate: I agree with you.

She has a great figure though.

  65. Kelly says:

While I am a wholehearted supporter of whack looking people making fillums and pushing out the vacuous conventional beauty that presently prevails, I also think they should be you know, talented. This piece is neither a; conventionally pretty or b; talented and interesting, or c; both, so erm, what is she doing there?

cough*nepotism*cough. The entitlement just oozes out of her. Get a real job, lady!

  66. Alexis says:

Sadly, she and her sister have Bruce’s nose…and they are lovely girls inside and out…but damn it…distracts me every time!

  67. Mingo says:

This poor unfortunate is just weird looking.

  68. Artecate says:

Not crazy about the funny sleeves and black bra but otherwise it’s a cute look.

  69. TeeTee says:

it would piss me off that my mom who USED to look like this no longer does and I am stuck w/it–walking around Hollywood with it..

  70. suede says:

I like the outfit, a lot actually

  71. angee says:

I like Rumer; I think she has a of guts to get out there – esp. given Hollywood/America’s obsession with looking perfect. I think she just doesn’t care and is going to use her pedigree to do whatever she needs to do with her life. Good for her!

  72. Mouse says:

I’ve never seen a movie she’s been in and probably never will. But I have to give the girl props for doing her own thing, she always seems to be trying something new with her hair or a radical outfit. She doesn’t have conventional good looks, but she’s not running out and carving herself up either (like her mother!). Good for her!

I like the outfit, although the skirt’s a tad tight across her hips. And I think a pair of simple black close toed pumps would look better w/ it.

  73. chasingadalia says:

She looks a little too much like her father for my liking, *however* I figure she’ll come into her own eventually. It takes a while for some people to figure out how to express their beauty.

  74. KatC says:

She doesn’t look that bad. She’s not beautiful, but she’s a step up from average, and her slammin’ well maintained body def. puts her ahead. It’s not like she’s so ugly and disfigured that she should run out and get plastic surgery so that she can live a ‘normal life’.

The grossest part is that if she did get plastic surgery everyone would jump all over her to criticize. People constantly claim that they like diversity/are sick of the frankenbeauties of Hollywood. That it’s wrong that they’re changing themselves and making normal people feel so shitty, but really they mean that they only want to look at people that are ‘naturally beautiful’.

That said she’s not much on an actress, but she’s young enough that I’m willing to wait and see what she turns into. Personally I always thought that Demi didn’t have the face to ply the parts (desirable sex-pot, most beautiful girl etc)that she always gets cast as, but it’s not like it impacts my enjoyment of her work. Plus her face kind of grows on you, like Rumor’s, it looks better in motion than in a photo.

I’m always so disgusted when I meet guys that claim they don’t want girls that wear tons of makeup or are fake. Because they don’t mean that they don’t care about looks, they mean that they want girls that are ‘naturally beautiful’, so in reality they want the girls that are so good looking they don’t need makeup.

(sorry for mini-rant at the end)

  75. My2Cents says:

I like what she has on. She looks great.
The only ‘unfortunate’ things I see is the comments here. Some of them suck!
What? Should she turn herself into a plastic fantastic version of the Heidi doll? I dont think so.
Everyone has the right to feel beautiful so if your saying she is not then your not.

  76. NicoleAM says:

I don’t like her hair, but I’m digging her outfit. Her look is unusal, but I don’t know it’s kinda quirky.
BTW, I think Meryl Streep was and still is an extremely attractive woman. Maybe it doesn’t jump out at people right away because she doesn’t shove it in everyone’s faces with a hypersexual image/movie roles.

  77. Nibbi says:

i think she’s had a nose job and if so it’s rather unfortunate because this nose is just too too narrow it emphasizes the face er wideness

  78. Meanchick says:

Wrong outfit for the red carpet and wrong shoes for that outfit! What’s with the smoldering look? She CAN afford a stylist, right? I look at her and I feel like I’m seeing her face through a funhouse mirror! I think the suggestion to enlarge the eyes with lashes will at least balance the chin and that beak-like nose! I know, that was mean.

  79. Music says:

I think if her chin was fixed and made smaller, and rounder she would be cute. Her mom should introduce her to her surgeon. Thats all Rumor needs is that.

She dosen’t have anything wrong with her but that chin takes away from a lot. Its sad to say and I know I’m being mean but if she would fix it, I think more door would open for her. Also grow her hair out. However I think Demi wouldn’t want a real pretty daughter because she be scared of Woody Allen type of situation.

I LMAO if it happened it wouldn’t be sick like Woody, because Kutcher was never there father and he is closer to Rumers age than Demi’s.

  80. Shawna says:

The skirt is amazing! I want to bring back pencil skirts! They look great on curvy women, too: brings out the curves.

  81. MS says:

She has very pretty Snow White coloring. I don’t see anything wrong with her nose or eyes. The red lipstick isn’t the best idea, maybe a frosted berry color. My, do people exaggerate! She’s not ugly or hideous.
Go visit sites with people who have real facial deformities. There’s no reason to give this girl a complex.

  82. H. says:

For years my chin, nose and the area under my lip were swollen but I didn’t realize it. People used to look me in the face and laugh. I was treated like a monster. It was because of an allergy to oats and wheat. Now my face is completely back to normal. Maybe she has an allergy.

  83. Jag says:

I think she looks great. If she had a different nose, she could be absolutely gorgeous. But she’s definitely looking good here.

  84. Crash2GO2 says:

I think she looks great. If she had a chin reduction, her jaw would look too square. She is perfectly proportioned for HER features. Hell what society deems a ‘pretty’ face these days. It will change. The last thing we need is another Heidi Montag monstrosity. And Meryl certainly could have done something about her less than classic nose, but chose not to.

  85. Kasey says:

So, I see the Dita Von Teese thing. I disagree about Meryl Streep, she has been and still is gorgeous. It dawned on me that we’re all, “poor girl she just doesn’t look like her mum”, but truth be told, her mum doesn’t look like her mum, she’s had tons of work done! Rumer is probably an accurate genetic mix of her dad and mum (w/o the work). The more I see/hear about Rumer, the more she grows on me. Maybe it’s the whole underdog thing, I dunno. But I appreciate that she’s not capitalizing on her name by partying and being a public nuisance but is trying to do something constructive with it (although I still am not sure if she realizes that her name DOES mean something for her). Although she resembles her mum, but looks oh-so-much like Dad, she’s not ugly and has attractive facial features and (maybe this is credit to her parents) for now she seems aware AND confident about herself despite this. I hope that lasts. If she wants to make it as an actress though she’s just going to have to either accept that Hollywood isn’t ready or willing to make as much fuss about women actresses as much as they are about GORGEOUS women actresses or have lose her positive-self image spiel and have the transforming work done. I think that as is, she could totally be a serious and good actress in the vein of Joan Cusack or Maggie Gyllenhall. I already wonder if SOMETHING has been done to her face (although she’s young enough that it just changed as she grew). I agree that with some work on that (chin? jaw? I’m not sure which) she’d be stunning. But you know what, I’d like her more if she chose to embrace herself and the looks God gave her, say no to plastic surgery, develop and make it on pure talent alone. Go Rumer, you can do it!
