Was Rachel Zoe lying about why her assistant Taylor left?

To celebrate and promote the new season of The Rachel Zoe Project, Harper’s Bazaar did a photo shoot with Zoe and several very high-profile fashion designers. They call the pictorial “I Die” after one of Zoe’s most annoying catchphrases, and I guess the shoot has various designers “killing” Rachel, except not really. The Bazaar piece is here, in case anyone is interested. I just wanted to do this because the Bazaar people sent the above hi-res image to us, and I was kind of amazed at how jacked Rachel looks. I mean, you can tell it’s Photoshop, but trust me, Rachel’s face is always jacked. It weird – even with the post-production work, there are still some angles where you can’t make her face work, at all. Anyway, various designers also commented on Rachel in general:

“I would die for Rachel’s vintage archive.” -Francisco Costa

Vera Wang: “I only want to kill Rachel when I don’t land one of her fabulous clients for the Oscars!”

Michael Kors: “The perfect accessory can make the difference between looking blah and totally to die for.”

Marc Jacobs: “Rachel’s energy is electrifying…and often shocking!”

[From Harper’s Bazaar]

Has everybody been watching the new season? I watched the premiere episode… when? Last week? It was interesting. They spent the first episode dealing with all of the Taylor Jacobson drama. I hadn’t been paying attention to the stories in the tabloids, so it came as a shock to me that Rachel and her husband were accusing Taylor of stealing from the company. Taylor wasn’t interviewed at all on-camera for the new season, and it seems many critics were surprised with just how far Zoe and her husband went with their not-so-veiled accusations.

Entertainment Weekly got an interview with Taylor last week, and she calls the whole drama “High school, way too high school” and went on to defend herself: “Whatever happened happened between closed doors and definitely not that way, definitely not the way that it was portrayed…. I am friends with PR people. Why would I steal samples? And I am a 34-D! Does no one look at what is on the runway? I straight up am a 34-D! I have huge boobs and a huge rib cage. I just don’t understand. I’m not a sample size at all. Am I really going to take these samples so I can get them for me to wear? It is just so bizarre… I am not into this drama. I dealt four years of drama. I am very happy with where I am. I have some great opportunities, I have been working consistently, I am building my clientele roster, I am doing it for myself and I am happy. I am not in a toxic environment. It’s just like, Jesus Christ, ratings? Really?!?The full EW interview is here, and it’s a very interesting read. I tend to think that Taylor might have been pulling some weird sh-t, and that she simply wasn’t happy with her job, but I’m not sure if I think Taylor was as grossly terrible as she was portrayed by Rachel and Rodger. More likely is that Rachel was worried that Taylor would steal her clients, and decided to preemptively bad-mouth her out of jobs.

even with heavy makeup and photoshopping, she still looks like a chupacabra. thanks to MK at dlisted for that label 🙂

  2. denise says:

What’s up with Pic #2, is he going to strangle her?

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I like Rachel Zoe alot. Love her show. Love her passion for fashion. I agree her face looks odd and that she is skinny but what can you do about it. I am not sure what happened with Taylor I find it hard to believe that she was stealing money for 4 years and no one noticed. However if it was really just Rachel in charge of the business I could see it.

Rachel is busy and her mind is only on the fashion, she wouldn’t notice money missing. However since Roger is now in charge (which I hate because he is to bossy and a douche and he has a harsh speaking voice, I don’t like Rachel bowed to her husband and made him boss of her empire, but she was stressed and ill so I guess she did the right thing…I digress) he may have been paying more attention to the finances than Rachel so he would indeed notice money missing.

That said I like Taylor but I would have gotten along more with Brad and Rachel. I am all about the oohing and awing over the clothes and accessories. I love Taylor because she gets the job done but she was harsh…she didn’t care about the Oscars…and thats just not hawt.

  4. Keen says:

however “talented” Rachel Zoe may be, I always felt like she was a terrible boss and businesswoman on the show. and if she’s the protagonist (it IS her show after all) then how must she behave in real life? Taylor seemed to be the only one who did any real work and had a good head on her shoulders. yeah, she complained, but I would’ve done a lot more than complain if everyone around me were behaving like that! I hope Taylor rises above this and I think Rachel just has sour grapes over the fact that someone wouldn’t want to work with her! and they have shown Taylor trying things on on the show before and they didn’t fit her b/c of her boobs, so she’s definitely telling the truth on that front.

  5. Xx says:

Zoe is so awesome. Who wouldnt kill to have her dress them for a night.

  6. California Surfer says:

This chick needs to smoke some weed, get a serious case of the munchies and EAT some big macs!

  7. London Lady says:

I don’t watch this show now, talking crap about your ex employees for ratings pretty much stinks. If I was Taylor I would sue, sue and sue, no matter what confidentiality agreement they have. Sue the network even, its their script.

  8. Sigh. says:

Those pics are weird, Vera Wang looks just as crazy as Zoe. And that 2nd pic makes Zoe look dumb, not innocent/scared. So if mouth-breathing stupid what they were going for, bravo (pun intended).

Did they think they were going to basically call her a thief on national tv and she not respond? ITAWY. They did it for ratings and to keep her away from potential (and bigger) clients. Haven’t there been rumors surrounding her about drug-use/dangerous practices to stay sample-sized (personal use and encouraging her clients)? So maybe a tell-all about her “secrets of the trade” is also feared.

But “samples” don’t have to be tops/dresses. They could be pants, skirts, coats, jewelry, shoes, bags, makeup, etc, that don’t touch her “wide parts,” so that’s not much of a defense. And more than clothes can be stolen from a thriving, but mismanaged business. Not saying she stole anything, but still…

  9. Meanchick says:

Trust me when I say that celebs bad mouth ex-employees sometimes because of sour grapes, jealousy or whatever. I dont know this situation, so RZ has no credibility with me, Taylor, only a small amount because she didn’t fling shit until it was flung at her!

  10. Riley says:

I find the show a little boring but the best part of it was always Tay Tay. She is such a spoiled brat but so unapologetic about it so it was great. Brad is a boring kiss ass and Rodger is also very boring. When he and Rachel talk about sex I feel really sad for them becasue if they are doing it with eachother you know it is boring. Rodger looks like the type that would fool around with 20 year bonaroo groupies, though, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he is letting loose when Rachel is spazzing out all over LA.

  11. Robert says:

I cant imagine anyone watching the episode could not find it more than acting when they revealed this “stealing” by Taylor! Was so made up! Even in last years episodes Taylor was done with them, looked like her complaining weaseled her out. I think they were done with her and Taylor was pulling away anyway. Plus, they really didn’t come out and say stealing…only that her “expenses were questionable. The show is so boring anyhow

  12. Sandy says:

Did she not just blatantly rip of Amanda Palmer?

  13. original kate says:

her voice makes me want to pull my ears off and hurl them at her.

  14. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

In my opinion, Taylor was the only one who took her work seriously, and who was always doing what was necessary. I think Taylor wanted out, Zoe was pissed, and hence the “stealing”. I heard that Zoe was pissed that Demi Moore was using Taylor still to style her, as well as another actress, who I cannot think of right now.

I cannot stand Zoe, there is something off about her.

  15. Marjalane says:

I watched this for the first time this week-end and it was the show where they trashed the Taylor girl, and I was astounded that they would say stuff like that about an ex-employee on T.V.! Unless the whole show was scripted and Taylor was in on it, it sounded to me like Taylor needs to lawyer up fast! Talk about libel.

  16. ch says:

    strangle her!

  17. Ron says:

I had the displeasure of having to deal with RZ back when I worked in BH and all I will say is she is not a nice person. At all.

  18. Oi says:

I can’t believe I ever know about this, but I’m not sure I buy Taylor’s story/defense. I don’t think she stole necessarily, but I think there was a breaking point somewhere and she was the guilty party. The stealing part was for ratings. Rachel seemed ok to work for. Taylor was just annoying. At points she was almost likable, but others she came off as dumb when she was trying to look out for herself. And I doubt she’s a D cup too. C maybe. Unless she gets every single top/dress tailored every time, she should have been busting out a little more, and she never does.

  19. KsGirl says:
however “talented” Rachel Zoe may be, I always felt like she was a terrible boss and businesswoman on the show.
This. The disorganization and just general ditziness of that woman makes me want to slap the sh** out of her most of the time. It really drives me nuts to see an organization run that way.

I don’t know if Taylor stole anything, but I do know that making vague accusations on tv is pretty crappy if you don’t have/arent willing to offer any proof. Taylor was always a bitch but can you imagine working in that environment? I’d turn into a drill sargeant.

  20. Pix says:

Zoe seems like a horrible person and I pray she never decides to procreate. I can only imagine the eating disorders she’d pass to her child. Actually i wonder if she’d even eat during pregnancy?

Taylor complained a lot, but she worked for a flake. Fashion is a tough business and I hope Taylor can stay afloat despite her unprofessional former employers.

  21. Mentok the Mind Taker says:

    @denise —

Picture 2 is supposed to be an homage to Dial M for Murder – an Alfred Hitchcock film (a really good one, too!)

  22. loverish says:

Taylor clearly is really good at what she does. Why would Rachel keep her on board if she wasn’t talented? Furthermore, if Taylor was as bad as they portray her on the show, then she wouldn’t of lasted that long working for Rachel. Ofc, they want to make Taylor look bad…they don’t want Taylor to take any of Rachel’s clients away. I’m sure Taylor had to put up with a lot…Rachel is such a primadonna…even her husband has to put up with her shenanigans.

If the Zoe duo were true professionals, they should have kept the Taylor accusations private. They could’ve said there were some discrepancies and it didn’t work out. Instead they tried tainting her professional image. I really believe there is another side to the story.

Taylor was the only one on that show who lifted a finger and did any real work. Rachel would just direct photoshoots and show up late into the office for a minute or two then leave. ugh.

  23. meme says:

Dial M for Murder is a great movie. Hitchcock was a genuis. Rachel Zoe is gross.

  24. mamamia says:

What is up with RZ’s hubby, he looks like a tranny this season?
Taylor wanted to be RZ so badly, it hurt and i do believe some crap went on with the 2 of them

  25. LondonLady says:

I’m guessing the execs took her aside and said, i know you probably don’t want to trash Taylor, but we don’t have any other storyline and without a story we got no show, so choose. And choos-eth she did..

  26. kelbear says:

I really liked Taylor and think she worked really hard considering she was working for a looney.

  27. Viggo says:

I knew that whole Taylor stole non-sense wasn’t true. It all just didn’t add up, why would you knowingly defame someone’s character like that? They were just mad that Taylor was trying to leave them ( Rachel especially). As much as I love the lightness/ silliness of the show, watching it gives you a glimpse of how selfish an individual Rachel is. She treats her husband like shit, all for what clothes?

  28. Gracie says:

Taylor was a total bitch and I’m glad she’s off the show.

  29. Adrien says:

In the strangling scene, Rachel looked like she’s wearing her dress backwards.

  30. Celeb Assist. says:

I work for a fashion celeb in Bel Air and we have encountered her highness RZ quite a few times, what a craaaazy be-aatch – I am still amazed that she has a show – I guess people really do stop to look at grotesque auto accidents, because that’s what her show is.

My boss used to work with Taylor before she was working with Zoe and she is just straight up, get the job done, no drama and a far better stylist than psyco RZ will ever be. I think RZ was afraid Taylor was going to snag some clients, so she got rid of her before her clients gave her the ole heave how and went to Taylor’s side. No one will believe RZ if she trys to blacklist Taylor, because they know RZ’s a loose cannon. Taylor will always have work with us.

  31. Mimi says:

Taylor was an ungrateful, spoiled brat. Glad she is gone.

  32. aloha says:

RZ has a nasty attitude, is rude and a pain to deal with.

  33. Mrs Odie 2 says:

Maybe Rachel Zoe can pick out cute outfits and pair them with accessories in between shopping trips for dead animal capes, but that doesn’t mean she can run a business. And why does “the help” even have a show? What’s next? A reality show about the grocery shopping of assistants to the stars? Oh, wow, I just pitched a show.

  34. Luci says:

i am not defending rachel Zoe, and probably this taylor bussiness has been done for ratings.
Taylor was portrayed in the show as annoying, bossy and always complaining all the time about the same stuff. I remember watching the show (yeah, i love it) and thinking, “nooo, not again, shut your trap Taylor!!”
i acknoledge she is very professional though, and I think she will have a succesfull career

  35. canadianchick says:

I think someone should give Taylor a show-great competition for RZ. She was good at her job but got mouthy by the end. I’ve said it before, RZ needs eating disorder treatment and management training.

  36. Tina says:

The new season is nothing without Taylor. It’s only episode two and already I am sick of the tay bashing and bad acting.

  41. Maureen says:

Rachel Zoe should be sued for the way she abuses the young and enthusiastic employees who work for her. She uses them all up and throws them out when she is done with them
    .
PS Isn’t there a law about how many hours one can require an employee to work before you have to pay overtime? She should be investigated.
