We already covered the excerpts from Christina Hendricks appearance as the September cover girl for GQ UK – the interview was good, and you can read it here. Anyway, we finally got the rest of the photo shoot by way of some higher-quality scans, and I just thought I would bring this up again: what the f-ck is wrong with the people who style Christina Hendricks? She’s a gorgeous woman with a stunning figure, and she’s consistently one of the most poorly-styled women on the red carpet and in photo shoots.
Why would you emphasize her forehead? I just don’t get that. Were they so mesmerized by her boobs (true story) that they just didn’t notice that they made her look like she has a receding hairline? Why so corpsey? Because she’s a pale-skinned redhead? Why is that Julianne Moore gets styled like a Renaissance painting while Christina is forced to look dull, ill, and grey? And yet… her boobs are beautifully lit, aren’t they? Yes, that’s what the photographer was focused on. As long as the boobs look awesome, everything else can go to hell.
Now, am I putting too much blame on the stylists and photographers when some of it should go to Christina? After all, she could totally speak up, right? Like, “Um, why are you pointing the camera only at my boobs?” Or perhaps: “Actually, the white clown makeup isn’t appropriate.” Or “Does my forehead look shiny? Do I look like I’m going bald?” But I’m unwilling to hand the blame to Christina. These are beauty, styling and photography professionals, and when they come across a spectacular pair, they just need to buck up and do their jobs.
On the bright side, heterosexual men think this photo shoot is awesome. Because they are only looking at her boobs. You know what? THAT’S SO TACKY.

She’s beautiful and I love the black and white photo and a few of the others aren’t bad…but yeah – is that green eye shadow and bright pink lipstick I see? She looks like me after my 4 year old niece puts makeup on me!

She’s a beauty but I wish they knew better how to emphasize that beauty instead of her being beautiful in spite of their efforts.
Everytime I put on make-up, I end up looking like a cheap hooker. That said, this photoshoot looks like I did her make-up.
It’s a shame too, she’s so beautiful. But the styling…jeezus.
The red dress is cut odd around the bust…don’t like it. And it seems the cups on the black boustier are too small also. Bad choices there. But it’s not her body’s fault 🙂

In different photos, I see Judy Garland (I think it’s the lips) and some Elizabeth Taylor. Maybe it’s the styling- always ‘period’. How original!!! Poor woman probably just wants to get in some clothes from this millenium.

Men love her, and never seem to notice the odd makeup or hair. A gay man I know said she is “the sexiest human being on the planet”. Hopefully her popularity will help to diffuse the size 0 fad.
Her face is meh in photos and just a bit better on Mad Men. The men are the lookers on that show.
i don’t understand why she doesn’t strike me as a big girl on the show, but in photographs she looks so much larger. on mad men she wears some incredibly tight and restricting pieces and looks amazing. i don’t even think of her being plus sized. that green dress is horrible with the draping on the stomach. it adds more than it hides. obviously she doesn’t need hiding because look at her in the dress on the cover (wow!!). the lighting makes her look like a zombie alien, too.
I am so sick of this woman’s boobs. She is gorgeous and talented, can they just let her put the girls away for a little while?

She looks lovely with a natural face; they should play up that great smile of hers and keep the makeup minimal.
But as someone who also has extra large breasts and some severe hip/waist proportions, I can relate. Ain’t no one care what you look like as long as the girls are a-poppin’!
I want to go to the office tomorrow with a mustache drawn on with lipstick, while wearing a tight top, and see how long it takes for people to notice the ‘stache.
The women will notice it within a minute, the men will notice it never.
Try it, ladies, try it and I’m sure you will see much of the same reaction from the gents! Bunch of savages.
Her features taken individually are a lot like Angelina’s…I think all actresses are starting to look alike. Same lips, nose, hair…

I like the second last photo the best. I’m not sure who I find the most attractive out of Christina Hendricks and January Jones. It’s too close to call. Can I have both?
I think she looks fantastic in some of these shots, but that’s just my taste- I love high key shininess done well. She IS hard to style because her look, or rather current image, is so retro; it’s a limited design pool and you can only do so much with it. She’s so associated with retro that if you styled her differently, the recognition factor would go through the floor, bad news when you’re trying to shift units.
That and the perennial problem editors seem to have with any woman exhibiting an intelligent, engaging or challenging expression; if you don’t look like someone spent half the afternoon inflating you, you go in the too hard basket because you might scare the customers. Flick back through every glamour shot of every woman featured here in the last year. I rest my case.

I agree… overrated. I’m getting sick of her soundbites, and even sicker of people gushing over her beauty and gorgeous “rack”. They’re boobs, people. Let’s move on.

I’ve got large boobs too, and until a few years ago I was soooo proud of the girls. Goddamn age and weight loss (OK, not so much damning on the weight loss). Even at 14 I can remember having to point out to a boy at a dance that my face was “up here”. Maybe that’s where she’s going wrong. Perhaps if she just told the photographer that her face was “up here” they might notice the makeup artist was a complete dimwit.
here (natural, right?) breasts seem too pushed up and smushed in these photos. i think they’d be more attractive if left to lie naturally somewhat so there isn’t that fake looking push-up look above the neckline but rather a nice cleavage and “drape.” she is the only starlet i can think of who is consistently styled ghoulish.
I think the issue is her skin tone. I’m very pale as well, with pink undertones, and it took me YEARS to realize that while I could do a lot of exciting eye makeup looks and they would really be striking because they show up so well (like coloring on a white piece of paper), I really do look better with neutral colors on my eyes, and while a bright red lip looks classy and hot, hot pink does not–ever. She needs a much less colorful makeup palette, IMO. I’m sure makeup artists love the drama they can get with colors against her paleness, but it ends up looking clowny.
I just think she’s a gal with large breasts. They look real, but they’re actually too large to be sexy. In a few years those breasts will look matronly.

CB you are SO right. She’s gorgeous but it’s always ‘all about the bod.’ I get it, her bod is nice and must be a change for stylists who are used to dealing with stick figures but for god’s sake, blue eyeshadow? Who can wear that? It’s criminal. Stylists work against her natural beauty.
I love her figure and i think the styling is meant to be “glow of the t.v., 1972”. But if they push those tits up any higher, they’re going to drown the poor girl!
Personally, I don’t see what the buzz about her breasts is. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with a curvy woman, but her breasts are far too big to be deemed sexy. At the moment, all they are is a distraction from her ordinary face. Pretty girl, but if you take away her breasts, there isn’t a lot to her.
It’s so disappointing that despite everything else happening in our time, our society still has this cave-people mentality that somehow having big boobs is a qualification (yes I know it’s supposed to be special that hers are natural but that’s not really a talent, it’s more of a genetic thing)
