Angelina Jolie takes twins to Sarajevo, announces war-torn love-story film

You know what just gave me a giggle? I was thinking about how actresses announce their next big role, and I just had a memory of Lindsay Lohan doing blow and partying her cracked-out ass off at this year’s Cannes Film Festival – that was Lindsay’s way of announcing that she was going to play Linda Lovelace, and she was “looking for investors”. So how does some like Angelina Jolie announce her new film? She goes to Sarajevo, bitches. Of course, the film is going to be set there… it’s a love story. Set during the Bosnian War. Angelina also brought the twins – you can see photos of them here – little Vivienne is such a pouty little thing!

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie said after a visit to Sarajevo Saturday she would soon start work on a love story set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

Jolie said in a statement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for whom she is a Goodwill Ambassador, that shooting for the movie would begin in autumn on the tale of a couple who meet on the eve of the war and the effect it has on their relationship.

“The film is a love story, not a political statement,” the statement said.

Jolie arrived Friday for a surprise visit to Sarajevo and Saturday met members of Bosnia’s inter-ethnic presidency to discuss ways to help thousands of returning war refugees.

Jolie visited returnees in eastern Bosnia in April with her partner Brad Pitt and promised then to come back.

She also said the movie’s cast would be comprised of actors from the various ethnicities of the former Yugoslavia.

“I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can,” Jolie said.

[From ABC News]

Angelina and Brad were just in Bosnia last April, as part of a UNHCR trip. Considering Brad came too, I’m kind of wondering if Brad is going to produce this love story? Plan B (Brad’s production company) keeps trucking along, producing some hits and some misses, but it’s a solid company and I could see Brad producing another vehicle for Angelina, like he did with A Mighty Heart. We’ll see. I just hope that it’s a real film, with a real script and a real character for Angelina, rather than just some haphazard excuse to film a movie in Bosnia and employ a bunch of refugees.

The lady on the right in the first picture is totally over it. I hope she does make this film but I’ve gotta say I sorta miss the old Angie. Still love her though

  2. Karie says:

She looks much more at ease (and thus lovelier) here than at any of the Red Carpet events we’ve seen over the last few weeks.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Yes a good drama/love story. It sounds like its gonna be awesome and epic. I hope it will be something like The English Patient. Thats one of my fave love stories that is set in another place. At the same time as doing a film they are doing some good for others and helping to bring work. Yay. I love how natural and free Angie looks when out on missions. The twins are adorable.

  4. Dhavy says:

I can’t imagine AJ & BP making a movie as an excuse to employ refugees, they would have done the same in New Orleans after Katrina if that was the case.

No matter how many people keep going back to the past (eye roll)you have to admire how dedicated she is to her humanitarian work and I admire her for that. Not too many people dedicate themselves to these causes, especially famous actors who claim they are so passionate about their cause but the only support seen is them showing up at a charity lunch or event.

You can also see how much influence she’s had on Brad because I can’t remember him doing this much before he met her.

On another note, I want to squeeze the twins’ cheeks! They are too cute!

  5. a says:

i agree with @carrie. jolie looks more happy and alive.

  6. lisa says:

I’m not really sure if she is going to STAR in this. She is Directing, but not really sure about the starring part. This Film has been in the works for some time. It is a 4 Part short about stories of women in various countries. Meryl Streep is also Directing part, and so is Lucy Liu..There will be a 4th female Director not yet named. Lucy has started her part already. Not sure about Meryl. Angie announced this over a year ago. NO details at that time but it is interesting.

regarding her Red Carpet appearance.. I actually think she looks way more beautiful without the makeup. the candid shots of her are always lovely to me. She does her JOB on the carpets, but when I see her out with Brad and the kids and her UN trips.. well to me she just glows..

Brad has always been active; something Angie herself has said. He was more quiet. She has her causes and he has his. They have things that are a joint concerns. I also don’t think that she is doing a film in Bosnia for that purpose. She seems very interested in that region. They each have their own thing and seem to support each other in those passions. Really nice.

  7. sandy says:

i don’t care what this woman does, she excites me, always something new, different, so interesting on so many levels, inspiring, beautiful inside and out.

  8. Tazina says:

She looks happiest when she is either with her children or in some war torn country mingling with the people and trying to bring attention to their plight. She is indeed a beautiful person. The twins are adorable.

  9. photo jojo says:

God I want to hate her. I mean, really, I want so badly to hate her. I sincerely think she broke up Brad & Jen and that’s so skeevy but God…. I can’t hate her. I just can’t. And that really pisses me off.

  10. Aine Ireland says:

Am loving Angelina so much, such a beautiful person who appears to engoy giving. A real modern day hero.

  11. RHONYC says:

i see that vivienne prefers ‘girly’ clothes. she clearly chooses ‘her’ own clothes…right?!

    whatevs.

  12. K-MAC says:

get after it! I love this b*tch!!!! She is bad-ass!

  13. maria says:

I would love this new film to be along the lines of The Unbearable Lightness of Being. That was an awesome film. Real live invasion footage and photos were used alongside the film they shot for the movie and it made it very moving. I hope she makes this a smart love story. It most definitely won’t be The Baster, The Switch, or whatever that mess is called.

  14. Tess says:

I think it’s deplorable that the UNHCR would allow itself to be associated with a movie that hasn’t even been made yet.

    That said…I’m not surprised.

Schlockmeisters and scammers as far as the eye can see.

  15. onyx says:

seeing these pictures of Brangelina really won me over again… and again.. realizing how priviledged you were born and wanting to give back is a beautiful thing. bless their hearts.

  16. Eva says:

Using a war known for genocide, mass rape, ethnic cleansing and death camps where torture was daily happening is one of the most shameful acts this idiot and Hollywood could come up with.

It also shows how ignorant and uninformed she and people in the West are.

Schmaltzy love stories are not the way to warn people about hate that grows in families and groups of various religions and nationalities.

I know what I’m talking about I was a child when it happened and had to flee during the war.

Read a few books and newspapers if you have any interest instead of letting HW exploite the tradegy.

  17. Maritza says:

Wow, what a great life she has! Traveling to every corner of the earth and getting paid for it, plus doing charity work at the same time. Beautiful children and a gorgeous man by her side, she is truly blessed.

  18. BethL says:

I seriously doubt this is a major movie considering the cast is local and Angelina is supposed to direct. No studio would back that no matter who the celebrity is. I think this is going to be an arthouse film with almost no budget or for cable like HBO.

As for Vivienne and Shiloh’s clothing, why do people believe that kids can’t make choices about clothing but can about food, toys, etc? Since Vivienne is just two she probably doesn’t care unless she’s attracted to the color or shape. At four Shiloh knows what she does/doesn’t like.

  19. mauweebound says:

she’s beautiful and has a very generous heart, but one does not homewreck!

  20. chris says:

I like her. She just honestly seems like a good person. And while she’s looking better lately, I do love that she appears to be choosing to age gracefully (I know she’s only in her mid-30s, but she looks older) than trying to look all plastic.

  21. Amanda says:

Her hair really ages her. The weird 1990’s bangs, and how it’s all one length, super long, mousy brown, and kinda lanky and drab. Angie needs a make-over for sure.

  22. Cheyenne says:

@mauweebour: Nor did she. I’ve said a thousand times and will say again, a marriage that is happy and healthy cannot be broken up by anyone.

@Amanda: I think looking great and camera-ready at all times is pretty far down on her list of priorities now.

  23. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

I agree with Eva. Setting a schmaltzy love story during a literal genocide is tacky as hell.

  24. Tess says:

Eva, good points all. But, open your eyes. The problem isn’t the big, bad West.

The UN is promoting the film.

  25. Mairead says:

@ Eva, interestingly the captions for the twins’ pics on X17 has a synopsis for the film which is the exact opposite of a “love story”. Unless there’s one hell of a plot, a romantic film based in the Balkan wars would be extremely inappropriate. I should imagine, however, that it would be more along the lines of Hotel Rwanda.

The information Lisa (above) gave looks very interesting and if researched and presented properly should not be schmaltzy. It’s highly unlikely to be fully accurate (no, and I mean NO, film/tv “based on history” treatment ever is – even the much-lauded Young Victoria took some serious liberties with the truth).

  26. OC lady says:

I doubt this is going to be a schmaltzy romantic-comedy love story which overlooks the hardships that people faced during the war. If she does that, it would be in really poor taste.

I bet it’s going to be the real life stories that came out of Sarajevo. I read about a few of them. Some of the stories were that husbands were separated from wives during the Sarajevo bombing, and they went back to get their loved ones. Another story I heard was about a couple that were trapped in a bunker with no way out and decided to end their lives together. So, I’m wondering if she is doing these real life tales?

  27. Patty09 says:

SHe rather work than take care of her own kids, you shouldn’t admire that. Story is going to bomb, no one is going to see it.

  28. pity party patrol says:

“There’s never a period when Brad and I are pulled apart. We are not separated for more than three days, ever.”

So much for the 3 day rule AGAIN! lol

  29. DD says:

eww I clicked on that x17 link in your post and there are some nasty comments. I think these are old pictures from the last time they were there though.

  30. Kiska says:

Her passion is not acting, its humanitarian work. She just glows. It is awesome to see.

  31. Camille says:

Gorgeous woman, love her. This movie sounds interesting and it is one I would see.

  32. lena says:

The photos on the other site are umm interesting. Her elbow is freaking me out. AJ is a beautiful woman and would look so much better with 10 more lbs on her. Her skin should not be doing that around her elbow! Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me but she’s too damn skinny. Pretty but scary thin.

  33. Crash2GO2 says:

If it’s humanitarian work that is her passion, I wonder why she keeps acting? Where is the long break she kept saying she was going to take to focus on her 6 children? Surely she has enough money by now to retire several times over. Methinks she simply can’t bear not to have the attention/adulation that being a movie actress brings her.

  34. pookie says:

Probably the most petty thing I will ever post on this site, but I clicked on the link to the pics with her twins – is it just me or does Angie have the elbows of a 70 year old woman? What up with that?

  35. Tazina says:

She works because movies bring in huge money, and that gives her more to add to the coffers of the Jolie-Pitt charitable Foundation. She doesn’t need more attention and adulation. She gets plenty without even trying. Also, can’t believe people are still calling her a homewrecker, not even any children involved. Talk about living in the past! It was a pathetic home anyway, as Brad wanted children and Jen did not.

  36. Cheyenne says:

@Crash: has she worked since last spring when she finished filming “The Tourist”? I wish I had a job that would let me take six or more months off at a time.

  37. sandy says:

i think Angelina, like most humans, she likes to wear more than one hat, she is in one movie a year, if that, that’s not someone who is seeking fame, i wish she did more, she has a presence about her, and we miss her talents. some actresses won’t stop making horrible, multiple movies, 2 and 3 a year, flops at that. now that’s fame seeking.

  38. Stronzilla says:

I really hope they can find a part for that old guy with the beard and hat in the first pic with her. Oh wait, that’s Brad.

  39. anon says:

As a fan of Angie I hope she continues with her movie career 🙂 How she takes care of her 6 children (with a partner and their father) is her business.
I would like to see her detractors take a break from giving her attention/adulation 🙂

  40. Stacia says:

There is no such thing as “Homewrecking a Marriage.”

One cannot breakup a marriage that doesn’t want to be broken. You need consent to be in a relationship, if there is no consent, there is no relationship.

People can change their minds. Marriage isn’t forever. That’s why divorce exists. Marriages meant to be for “forever and all eternity” are based on religion. I don’t see Brad or Jen being very religious. So there goes “forever marriage” out the window.

Brad left because he didn’t want Jen anymore. End of story. He will leave Angie when he no longer wants to be with her. Just like when he left Gwyn Paltrow and when he left Juliette Lewis.

That’s just who he is. That’s his “thing”

  41. JY says:

    —————————————-

I agree. she is very beautiful and I can’t take my eyes off her when she is on screen. I hope she does Maleficent.

  42. Crash2GO2 says:

@Cheyenne: Heck yes she’s been working. It’s called the promotion of Salt. Or did you miss all those opening night photos? Plus, if she’s already in talks regarding another film, that means more work, more meetings, more time away from the kids.

  43. Kim says:

This film starts in Nov, shooting for 3 weeks. She hasn’t filmed since May.She has done 6 premieres and she took some her kids with her to each city. Her kids will visit her on set.So she filmed The Tourist for 11 weeks,9 days away to promote Salt in 6 cities, 3 weeks to film Bosnia movie . So thats about 16 weeks of working for 2010 and another week away for Unhcr work. As for the 3 day rule obviously if Brad is filming in the states and she has 3 premieres in Europe that can’t be done in 3 days. She left Oakland on a Sunday for Europe and there are pics of her leaving Bosnia Sat.Personally I think its great that she can have her career and do charity work and only work 3-4 months a year. Best of all her kids can come to work

  44. skibunny says:

Actually I feel sorry for those kids being carted off all the time. Another plane ride, another airport, another hotel room, a different bed. I think the younger ones especially would need more stability. How do they form lasting friendships with children their own age when they are always uprooted every few months? Perhaps their mother is a little selfish in that respect.

  45. Kim says:

The kids attend the same private school in Malibu when they return from their trips and reconnect with their friends. Kimora lee Simmons (Star Magazine had pics of AJ and Kimora at a school fair in June)attend the same school when they are in LA.Also Kimora mentioned play dates her kids had with their kids in an interview. They attended a branch of the same French scool when they travel(in NYC, in NOLA, Prague) and use private teachers when they are in a city with no branch of that school. In Long Island they attended private school so they have met kids from many cities Berlin , Venice etc and hopefully they keep in contact with some of them. Many actors kids travel with them on location including Matt Damons kids and Huggh Jackmans’. Where is the outrage about those kids. I think they would prefer to be with both their parents on location rather than see one or both parents once every 2-3 weeks.
