George Clooney rips on Paris & backtracks, but he said same thing before

George Clooney supposed has an interview in the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine in which he says semi-rude but true things about Paris Hilton. His rep says that’s not really what he said, and that he was making a joke and it was taken out of context. It’s hard to decipher exactly what Rolling Stone claims he said, but it sounds like he’s saying that Paris Hilton thinks she’s successful just because she’s making money and that’s not the case:

The Michael Clayton star was said to have slammed the hotel heiress during an interview with America’s Rolling Stone magazine, allegedly calling Hilton a “wannabe” and ridiculing her acting talents.

The star was quoted as saying, “There is a funny thing that happens when you are a young actor. You equate financial success and getting jobs with whether or not you are good at it.
“And it still happens. That’s why there is Paris Hilton. Now I’m in trouble with Paris Hilton.”
But the Hollywood hunk’s representative states the comments were taken out of context, insisting the quips used in the article were not connected.

Clooney’s spokesman Stan Rosenfield says, “He made a long joke in between those two quotes. Making fun of himself. Two different statements are being used that were barely connected.”
Rosenfield adds, “And (they were) certainly not the spirit of the interview.”

The thing is, Clooney said almost the same thing about Paris Hilton being a talentless wannabe last year. He said “You can only get so far without discernible talent – then you either work, or use cheap publicity tricks to keep the public’s attention. Paris has no reason to complain if she is on the end of bad publicity.”

He’s basically saying that you can make money and be all over the place but that doesn’t mean you have talent, and it sounds like he’s been trying to make this point for a while. He’s right, and he should just admit to ripping on Paris. Maybe he didn’t say it exactly like that this time, but he used Paris as an example of that exact same concept last year.

Here’s Paris, Nicky, their mom and the winner of a Mother’s Day contest shopping on Robertson yesterday. She definitely knows a lot of publicity tricks. Clooney is shown on 5/6/08 after his birthday party at Bungalow 8. He turned 47. Thanks to WENN for these photos.

Oh yeah. But what he forgets is that his call-girlfriend, Sarah Larson, is just the new Paris Hilton…

She’s doing interview for what reason ? Oh yeah, I forgot… she’s f*cking the “King of Hollywood”, what a talent…it deserves to do more and more interviews and photoshoots of her ALONE.

George, you’re more and more pathetic and pitiful.

  2. Linda says:

Mind you, I would be the last person sticking up for Paris Hilton – but George should take a look at his current slut of a GF Sarah Larson!! After all, she’s getting to model, be on the cover of magazines because she’s sleeping with him!

Seems to me that George has some kind of double standard here.

  3. kate says:

ok, george, what kind of “discernible talent” does sara larson posess? oh yeah, posing for drunken, slutty photos. kind of like paris.

  4. Celebitchy says:

You guys have such a good point about his girlfriend! That did not occur to me. I wonder if that’s why he’s backtracking now since it’s not like he should talk! 😆

  5. headache says:

Yeah but Sarah isn’t selling perfume, reality shows, clothing lines or being hounded for pics outside of being on Georgie’s arm. She’s gotten an interview or two because of it but that’s still a stonger link than Paris’.

I really don’t understand how bird beak became famous. I really don’t.

  6. aaaaaaaaa says:

why is everyone so hard up on sarah larson? when she just walked around w/ him and never spoke she was a “robot” and now that people come requesting her to do interviews where she can have a personality, she’s a sl*t?? dang guys, jealous much?? lay off her!

separately, i agree with celebitchy in that clooney shouldn’t have to apologize for ragging on paris. she’s worthless! i LOVE tina fey for her comments in that howard stern interview years ago about paris. everyone should speak with such truthful tongues!!

  7. Linda says:

Hey “aaaaaaa” – what rock have you been living under? Sarah Larson was working for an escort service in Las Vegas and catered to high rollers – in other words, she’s paid very well to be a slut.

  8. Bob says:

George Clooney basically plays “George Clooney” in every movie he does. What makes him an expert on who is a real “actor” and who is just a “celebrity”?

  9. Ron says:

Oh Please! Paris Hilton is not and will never be and actor! For Christ’s sake she studied with Ivana Chubbock for a YEAR and still sucks. FYI Ivana coached Halle Berry for Monsters Ball and Chalize Theron for Monster–she knows what she’s doing. Let’s face it she’s this generations Zsa Zsa, famous for no apparent reason.

  10. jan says:

Ever notice that when life isn’t rosy for George, he comes out with a comment deriding a lesser female celebrity, like Jamie Lynn or Paris. Am I the only one who’s noticed that HIS star hasn’t been shining too brightly lately?

He probably wants to sleep with Paris himself if he hasn’t already. 😉 Sarah Larson isn’t anything but a poor man’s Paris Hilton, if that.

  11. Granger says:

My first thought when I read this article was, Right on, George! (I agree that there’s this strange notion in our society that being rich and famous means you have a successful career.) But I hadn’t thought about how his girlfriend is currently riding the coat-tails of his celebrity. I never thought she was a robot when she kept her mouth shut: in fact, just the opposite. I thought she was classy and that her silence was an indication that she didn’t care about the fame. Now that she’s suddenly turning up on catwalks and in Harper’s Bazaar, though, she seems much less sincere. (Seriously, we’re supposed to believe that a 29-year-old woman can suddenly become a big model based on her own merits?) I wish she’d kept her mouth shut. But maybe I’m just jealous. God knows it must be wild to be a “cocktail waitress” one day and living in George Clooney’s Italian villa the next!

  12. Devilgirl says:

I think that George has forgotten that he began his career as a pretty poor actor on The Facts of Life. I certainly don’t like Paris, nor feel that she has any talent, but lets face it she is around the same age as George was when he was a handy man to Mrs.Garrett and co. and his skills certainly were not Oscar worthy back then. Not likely, but perhaps when Paris is his age, she may be a great actress. Doubtful, but who in the heck is he to judge. ❓

  13. fgh says:

I’m not a Paris fan by any stretch…but the girl has branded herself and is a genius in that capacity.

  14. jewlz says:

You’s are all f###ed in the head at least his girlfriend isnt covered in STD’s and whore’s herself out. So she got lucky meeting George, as if u wouldn’t want to meet sum1 like that, she’s happy and lucky, and set for life atm. I’d prefer to be like her than that whore face paris hilton!

Paris is a slut and probably is loving the fact she was mentioned in a george clooney interview. Her motto is “ALL PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY” no matter what or how bad it is. She is dumb and worthless to civilisation!

You should all be ashamed of urself for sticking up for that whore!

    Peace out

  15. Ashley says:

    I agree with you Jewlz,

Sarah Larson is nothing like Paris Hilton!
Sarah actually had to work and have a real job.. (Probably had to pay part or most of her education.) Being a Cocktail waitress isn;t easy. You have to walk around in heels all day and flirt with men to get bigger tips. Paris has never had a real job in her entire life. she’s lived off the coatails of her famous last name. Got more attention for being a slutty party girl and that sex tape. I think it’s stupid to compare them together. George Clooney can make fun of Paris all he wants. He’s right and shouldn’t have to retract his comments.

  16. will says:

Kudos to George for saying what everyone thinks about Hilton! He’s absolutely right! It’s the truth. George has no need to apologize.

  17. Ashley says:

Besides, what he said wasn’t even a slam.
It’s not like he called her a bird faced, egotistical, phoney, no talent Herpes infected whorebag. That’s what he should have said. 😉

  18. Nan says:

Look, I don’t why everyone expects Clowney to be better than that. He may have power in Hollywood & have multiple talents but the fact is-He’s not an educated man nor from the finest family. People are holding him to the standards of an ambassador. Look at who he really is. Just the fact that he has to take pot shots at Paris (we all know she’s famous for nothing. We get it) shows a lack of integrity. This is indicitative by his dating record of choosing bartenders and cocktail waitresses. That is who he is! He wears that smug face to cover up the fact that he should have stayed in school. If he had, he wouldn’t be chasing people in the food service industry. Case closed.

  19. All the same says:

Sarah Larson is a poor man’s Paris Hilton (both tried to get famous by going on a reality show, getting drunk and acting slutty…)

and Paris Hilton is a poor man’s Angelina Jolie:

They all use cheap publicity tricks to keep the public’s attention.

BTW, George should not criticize others’ acting abilities, since he is a poor actor.

  20. Anon says:

Nan — you are so jealous of talent and intelligence, it’s ridiculous. Clooney is light years above such trash as Hilton, and everyone knows it. How you can put a man like him down with such gross untruths is disgusting.

  21. jan says:

It’s actually very easy, Anon, while watching Leatherheads. 8) Renee Z. was the only good thing about that crapfest.

  22. journey says:

wow nan. snob much? think your sphincter’s torqued a bit too tight. 😛

  23. will says:

To Nan and some of the other ignorant posters, here:

Mr. Clooney’s comments were taken out of context. Many share his fact-based liberal views. His involvement, generosity and global awareness are well known. This has, no doubt, something to do with the fact that he is the son of a newscaster and journalist. His intelligence shines through in much of his work, as well as his positions regarding world affairs. Check your facts, grammar and spelling before posting a comment. They are all atrocious. But then again, so are you.

To Jan: I noticed you didn’t mention “Syriana,” “The Good German,” “Good Night & Good Luck,” “The Perfect Storm.” Over your head?

  24. journey says:

sorry nan. your comment about george’s family and his lack of education rubbed me the wrong way. but don’t worry, it’s undoubtedly just because of my low-class family and that i don’t have a doctorate– so what right do i have to have an opinion, right? peasants be quiet! (oops. this was suppose to be an apology– my bad.)

  25. jan says:

Like I said, Will, when George bombs it seems like misery loves company. He lost the Oscar then let his slutty girlfriend’s reputation kill the bottom-lines of his last two films. That is irresponsible and bad business! 😕 I don’t give a shit about his political views, he’s only an entertainer to me. Stop being his p.r. lapdog because everyone should know by now that his good traits have been manufactured. So instead of being the resident spell and grammar checker you might want try to present a viewpoint of more subtance in the future. Atrocious, my ass.

  26. Devilgirl says:

Reading these posts makes me laugh. How can people get so riled up over an actor that they probably have NEVER met, and who wouldn’t spit on them if they were right next to him on fire! He is a no body, an actor, an entertainer, not a surgeon saving lives, a scientist making life sustaining discoveries, he is an actor, and yet people get so vicious over comments made that may contradict theirs and hurl insults at intelligence levels etc. Why get so whacked out over differing opinions about some second tier actor? There are more important things out there to get personal with people over and a celebrity gossip site isn’t that place, it is supposed to be fun, and yes, disagree, but don’t slam others intelligence levels or characters, because just like Clooney, you don’t know what types of people they really are and that is disrespectful. Sorry about the soap box, but play nice folks! 😆 🙂

  27. Catsy says:

Loved your comments, Will. As for the others, let them throw out their stupid comments; they are only defining themselves as rather ignorant. They obvious know little about Clooney. Too much time strapped to the PC, no doubt. Nice play –and well written.

  28. Georgia says:

    To jan —

My housekeeper has more class, and is more knowledgable than you. Atrocious? Will was being kind.

  29. jan says:

If your housekeeper were more knowledgable than me, she would be a judge or at least a lawyer like me, not your housekeeper. I’m just enjoying my break, so please don’t talk to me about class on a message board. Have an nice day. 🙂

  30. Devilgirl says:

Jan, I liked your last post. 😆

  31. Ashley says:

    Jan,
Quit being such an elitist … ,

I think it’s great that you went to school all those years, got a degree and are a lawyer.

But, not everyone goes to college, works in high positions, has the same opportunities in life be it because of personal or finacial reasons, and that doesn’t mean that they are any less intelligent than you are! So keep an open mind.

  32. Donkey Punch says:

The only thing Paris is famous for is sucking *ock and pretending to act. At least Clooney’s girlfriend isn’t pretending to act.

  33. Ade says:

Not yet, Donkey Punch. Not yet…

  34. Codzilla says:

Hard for any of us to claim moral and/or intellectual superiority on a celebrity gossip blog. Now if you excuse me, I have some trash to digest.

  35. Ashley says:

Just because you’re on a celebrity gossip site doesn’t mean you’re a non intellectual or unbright. It’s escapism for alot of people.
When I say elitist, I’m not meaning it in a good way- being a smart intellectual type- that’s not an elitist to me.
I’m meaning it as the Snobby, upper class rich people whom think they’re better than other people because they come from a good family or went to college etc..

  36. Georgia says:

Jan: She still is more knowledgable and has more class than you. She would never write the elitist, rude and disingenuous comments you have written here. And I seriously doubt that you are an attorney of any merit whatsoever.

  37. jan says:

    Aw, Georg(ia). 😆

  38. Nan says:

Hey Will! You forgot to explain to Ashley that it is ‘a lot’, not alot. Atrocious, just like my poor spelling & grammatical skills. Can you even find one fault?

  39. Ashley says:

Big f****** deal. So, I made a slight grammatical era that a lot of people can make.

You on the other hand, are a snobby b****

  40. wandablen says:

why would george clooney or anyone be afraid of dissing paris hilton? and he is in oceans whatever and has an ugly hooker girlfriend so what makes him so great?

  41. Nan says:

I like the way Will opens his post. “Mr. Clooney’s comments were taken out of context…” WHO are you, his PR agent? What a tool!
