Adam Brody tells Kristen Stewart to suck it up, but then he apologized

wenn5433938

This great story comes via Evil Beet – I hadn’t heard a peep about it, because, you know, who follows Adam Brody news? But Adam Brody has opinions, and they’re pretty interesting. I only know Adam Brody because he was “the cute nerdy guy” on The O.C. (I didn’t watch it, so I have no idea if that assessment of his character is correct), and he had that small part in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It seems like Adam could have been a solid character actor, but his career never really took off, which is too bad. He is kind of hot. Nerd-hot.

Anyhoodle, Adam is part of that ensemble film The Romantics (also starring Katie Holmes, Xenu and Anna Paquin), and he was interviewed by Diablo Cody recently. The topic of fame and a celebrity’s handling of the media became a topic, and Adam (or Diablo, I don’t know), brought up Kristen Stewart as an example of a young star who complains about her level of fame. Adam said:

“It’s only gotten worse, I’m sure, being a celebrity. At the same time, I don’t have a lot of patience for people who moan about it too much. Because there are many things you could do… It’s like, quit… you don’t need to be an actor, so it’s like, if it’s that much of a problem… there’s the door.”

[From IMDB]

As you can imagine, the Twihards were butt-hurt. According to IMBD/WENN, “The comments sparked an online hate campaign from loyal followers of the vampire franchise.” Oh, they struck HARD. Taking his comments at face value, I can see both sides – Adam is still a “struggling” actor, hustling to get parts after a decade in Hollywood, and Kristen gets it all handed to her at such a young age, and he got pissy and jealous. On the other side, I interpret it as one professional actor telling another professional to suck it up and stop complaining, which, well… someone needed to say it to her. But it doesn’t matter now, because Adam recanted and apologized:

Adam tells MTV News, “It wasn’t taken out of context. I saw (the interview) and thought I sounded like an idiot. I did. Regardless of how anyone else took anything, I would think that sounds very ungentlemanly and I sounded like a jackass.”

[From IMDB]

Adam Brody: douche, gentleman, or truth-teller? I think he’s a truth-teller who got scared of alienating a powerful fan base, so he was the one to suck it up. Plus, he fell on his sword so completely, he does sound gentlemanly and sweet.

Now, if he’s going to pull “takesies-backsies” then I’ll be the one to say it to Kristen: grow up, suck it up, and act like a professional. There are thousands of struggling actors out there who would kill to have your problems. Stop being such a lip-biting neurotic. Now, for my hedge: She does seem to be doing a little bit better. We’ll see.

I agree with him. Don’t like it? There’s the door. Simple as that.

  2. mln says:

OH he is sooo right. I actually like K-Stew but she is a drama queen and needs to get a perspective. She is really only making it worse for herself, and less likeable for anyone who may like her despite the cheesy Twilight associations.

  3. Rachel says:

Truth teller! Kristen Stewart DOES need to suck it up. I can’t stand the lip biting and eye rolling she tries to pass off as acting. If she doesn’t want the fame she can quit acting! I sure as hell won’t miss her.

  4. Liz says:

they actually did a movie together, “in the land of women” he was the lead star in it and she was a small role, it also starred meg ryan as her mum. so he has actually worked with her and would know what she was like before she became the most annoying woman on the planet earth. but also, your right it shows how his star has fallen, from being the lead in a movie to only getting press when talking about her.
    i love him though! *sigh*

  5. Roma says:

If Kristen had talent and didn’t want to deal with the fame, why not take some time off and go appear on stage?

Daniel Radcliffe is an excellent example of handling sudden success and growing as an actor. But wait… DR can actually act. Sorry Kristen, my bad.

  6. Snarf says:

Adam supposedly a bit of a douche, and I’m sure his comment was born out of a case of the green eyed monster, but he shouldn’t have taken it back.

Oh well, after Nov 2012 when the last Twilight movie is released, Stewart will go back to irrelevancy.

  7. ch says:

is it true that she´s a lesbian and pattinson is gay? must be complicated if its true

  8. chasingadalia says:

    Ditto, Roma!

  9. aenflex says:

Yuh, ITA with Brody, though I seriously have never heard of him? Kristen is an awful actress, the only film she was ever decent in was Cake Eaters, and I credit the director(S) for that. For her to act as if fame is a pain in the ass is such an insult, I think, to anyone who has ever tried to claw their way up and failed. A lot of it’s luck anyway.

  10. serena says:

Yeah he is hot. I followed the O.C. only because of him and Rachel Bilson. The show was crap.
Anyway he’s right, Kristen get on my nerves.
I hope Adam will found a great part that will make him more famous and stable as an actor (to make Kristen lick her piss).

  11. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

He is fug. I have hated him in everything I havce ever seen him in.

  12. luna says:

Even though they were talking about her, it didn’t sound like he was hating on her. It sounded like he got asked a question about how certain celebrities deal with fame, Stewart was given as an example, and his answer was more general than actually pointed at her. I dunno, I think Adam is talented and likable, and he’s still young. I wouldn’t rule out his having a decent, long career. Then again, he kind of reminds me of a better looking version of Jason Biggs and Biggs’ career never really did take off either…

I’m not a Stewart hater, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned out to be a flash in the pan. Her acting and screen presence are waaaayy overrated, especially when you compare her to other starlets her age. I personally prefer the Emma Stones and Kat Dennings(s).

I do kind of feel bad for the Twihards though…I remember being a teenybopper and at least I didn’t have the internet to publicly display my crazy. These kids will be so embarrassed with themselves in a couple of years…

  13. Whatever says:

He’s just telling the truth, no need to apologize. The paps are invasive and the twitard fans are morons, but she chose to do it and sign on again for the rest of the franchise. She knew how it was with the fans and paps when she still signed on for the next installments. If you don’t like it, quit sounds about right to me.

  14. Iggles says:

He’s right. He wasn’t overly harsh or too personal about it. Being an actor is a choice.

If she chooses to stop making movies, then her fame will fade. She’ll be able to get back that “normal life” she’s always moaning about..

  15. Blaster says:

I watched the video a while ago and completely agreed with him. Much like Emma Roberts quitting Twitter because of the rage of the Twi-Hards, I’m sure he apologised just to shut them up.

I mean, watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYySqyXP810&feature=related

He wasn’t being mean or rude. Diablo was the one who brought up Kristen and he answered in a very intelligent way, and he had a point. I really don’t think he’s “jealous.” It didn’t come off that way in the video.

Don’t forget the he’s also starred in a movie with Kristen “In The Land of Women” so it’s not like he was talking about someone he didn’t even know personally.

    Team Brody

  16. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I don’t think he was taking anything back. Notice that he never technically apologized for the content of the comment or to her, just for the way he expressed it. There may have been some contrition woven into the statement, but it’s really more about him being remorseful for not being at his best and not following his own code of civility. Good thing, too. Those Hot Topic pukes are Godless shit-fitting machines who really need to be doing their homework–discover a world outside of badly-applied mascara and party allegiance garments. Some kids just want to be ‘misunderstood’ so badly they’ll toss on some concrete shoes for an approximation of depth. It’s definitely not the worst or most uncommon thing in the world, but all us need to be kept in check: Instant millionaires included

  17. amirza says:

    he’s soo right..

  18. EMV says:

He just sounded jealous to me.

  19. Loser1 says:

To the people that say she is a terrible actress, have you ever actually seen her act? Besides Twilight? Because most of the people on this site say they’ve never seen Twilight. So, I’m just curious.

And have any of you seen the paps or the twi-hards in action with her?? Its quite scary! Keep in mind, she is a tiny person. They scream & practically stomp on her trying to get a photo. It would bother anyone.

Give her a break. I dont get the lesbian vibe from her at all.

  20. LondonLady says:

OMG. Can someone please un-invent the internet please so that pre pubescent teens don’t have this kind of power.

  21. JY says:

I totally agree with him. the plain girl needs to stop complain. she is so annoying. you’re nothing special, just so lucky to be casted the awful vampire movie.
I think he seems nice and likable but he needs to stop trying to become a movie star. you never will be a movie star anyway and go back to tv along with aniston and garner…

  22. kim says:

He was 100% spot on! Why did he apologize and say he was an idiot?! Oh Adam stick to your guns! Hollywood pressure im sure. People who complain about fame, who purposely go after fame, being an actor or in a reality show, whatever – are pathetic!

  23. Me says:

Oh I’ve seen Twilight and that is money and time I will never get back. Her acting was horrible as were the rest of the “actors.” I don’t know if I’ve seen anything else of hers and now I don’t want to.

I have some sympathy for her, but in the end she has chosen her life and now she needs to work it out on her own.

  24. jemshoes says:

KS just needs to grow up to better manage / handle her level of fame. And shame that AB had to recant / retract his statement – it’s his opinion, let him have it!

  25. Mara says:

I understand why he apologized. I don’t think he was apologizing because he wanted to take back what he said but because he regretted the rude, hurtful way he personally felt that he came across. That’s commendable to me.

I don’t have the hate for Kristen Stewart’s attitude that most seem to. She’s a girl who went from being a normal actress to a level of intense, insane superstardom that few people on this planet will ever experience. The level she’s dealing with right now is a lot more than just movie star fame. And on top of the Twihard focus, she also gets the backlash that comes from dating the crazies of the female population’s pretend boyfriend. I agree that she can at times come across as immature, but comparing the way she deals with fame to the way other actresses her age deal with it doesn’t work for me because those actresses aren’t dealing with the extreme level that she is. The fan, media, and pap behavior around her can be out of control.

@loser 1 , see? your name just describes you weelll.

  27. NotBuyingIt says:

I actually feel bad for actors/celebs that dont search out paps for publicity.
I couldnt imagine doing a job I love only to be followed relentlessly by people who feel entitled to know every detail of my life.
The crazy lengths that paps/fans go to to get close to celebs is frightening. Especially in vechiles. I hope that the new law that CA has passed will help protect innocent bystanders, drivers and the celebs themselves.

  28. hairball says:

I agree that I think she is a terrible actress. Let’s face it, the Twilight movies are NOT good. Had I not loved the books, I would have never, ever seen anymore after the first one.

Twilight was ATROCIOUS and I mean, I was cringing with embarrassment for everyone in the movie, especially the very obvious pancake make-up / pink lipstick wearing actors. WTF?

Her acting is BAD. You don’t really believe the chemistry between her character and RP’s character. The only hint of chemistry in those movies was between her and Carlisle when he’s stitching her arm in “New Moon” and that was due to Peter F.’s acting.

It’s like she can’t move her jaw fully when she speaks and shows no emotion believably. It’s distracting how bad of an actress she is. I am stunned she or any director thinks she can act. She basically just says the lines in the same fast, jaw restricted way, biting her lip, and once and a while talks shouts something. It’s embarrassing and such a distracting contrast compared to minor actors she is with who can actually act and are believable.

BUT, I don’t believe she seeks out the paps. Has anyone seen video of them and what they do to these Twilight people, esp Kristen and RP?? It is criminal and would turn me into a paranoid crazy person never leaving the house.

The video in July of the paps literally stalking RP all day to the point the night ended with him sitting like a little boy in his car on the street not knowing what to do because even the police he went up to wouldn’t help stop the paps from following him home. It was sickening. That level of fame no one deserves or signs up for.

Here’s the video. Kristen is a BAD actress, but there’s no way anyone signs up for or should condone this. This video is disturbing to me. There has to be some boundaries.

Jo Mama– “Some kids just want to be ‘misunderstood’ so badly they’ll toss on some concrete shoes for an approximation of depth.”

I love this! So true! 🙂 Reminds me of that brat Taylor Momson.
