That is a personal choice and the other factors tend to be the state of mind, and any drugs (which include alcohol) the person maybe doing. Suicide is very sad, but it is a personal choice at the end of a long road usually. Kate is no more responsible for it than his brother is or anyone else. Owen appears to be a Player so I doubt he was serious about Kate any more than anyone else. I hope they both find what they are looking for.
