Josh Brolin: “I don’t f-ck around on my wife.”

vn19_josh-brolin_lr

These are photos from Josh Brolin’s appearance on the October issue of VMAN Magazine – we got these last week, and I was just itching for an excuse to use them. Because although I think Josh is probably a douche in real life, I find him incredibly sexy. Like, Hot Guy Friday sexy. I like that he looks like a man, you know? It’s the Jon Hamm thing – Brolin isn’t necessarily aging the best way, but I like that he looks his age, and he wears his experiences well.

Anyway, Brolin is also the October Playboy Interview. Since Playboy usually doesn’t put their interviews online, we have to make do with Us Weekly’s excerpts. You know why I appreciate Playboy? They do one of the most comprehensive interviews in celebrity culture, and their interviewers aren’t afraid to ask the bitchy questions. So whoever was doing Brolin’s interview asked him about all of the cheating rumors – like the one about Josh and his costar and friend Marley Shelton, and the time in 2007 when he was busted getting his groove on with some NOLA random. Anyway, in the Playboy interview, Josh denies that sh-t:

Diane Lane’s husband has never been unfaithful.

“I don’t f*** around on my wife,” Josh Brolin tells Playboy in its October issue. “I mean, check her out, man. My relationship with my wife is fantastic.”

Married to actress Lane since 2004, Brolin, 42, was the target of cheating rumors when he was photographed kissing actress Marley Shelton, his costar in the flick Grindhouse.

“Marley is my wife’s and my great friend,” the actor explains of the pic. “I’m an extremely affectionate guy…Marley and I were out together, turned around and saw there were cameras. That’s it.”

Jokes Brolin: “Next time I see that camera guy, I’m going to give some guy a good smack on the lips and then hopefully it will be ‘Josh Brolin is gay’ instead of that I’m f***ing around on my wife.”

Brolin and Lane, 45, also hit headlines back in December 2004 when he was arrested for spousal battery just four months after their wedding; Lane eventually called the incident a “misunderstanding.”

“I feel rage about that,” Brolin admits of the surprising arrest. “I feel I’ve gotten to a point where I can’t explain it, defend it or compensate for it. I can’t say, ‘No, I’m actually a really good guy and that didn’t happen.’ Everybody knows what happened because it’s all out there.”

He continues about the fight: “I talked big, she said ‘F*** you’ and called the cops, and somebody had to go to jail. This will be there for the rest of my life. That f***ing sucks. It’s been so disruptive to our lives. It’s also post-O.J., and that horrifies us both. It kills me, man. It kills me.”

In his Playboy interview, the star also offers his thoughts on another Hollywood couple: his dad James Brolin and wife Barbra Streisand. “The fact that he got together with her and found this solace is such a coup and so wonderful,” he gushes of the pair, who wed in 1998. “The guy was so frigging unhappy and lonely. She’s always like, ‘Come over. We’ll have cake or cocktails or soup or ice cream.’ I love her and I love what they’ve created together. I say thank God for her.”

Brolin also defends the acting prowess of Megan Fox, his costar in Jonah Hex. “What Megan has done is confuse everybody thoroughly,” he says of Fox, 24. “To me, she’s doing something more interesting than what a lot of other young people in movies are doing.”

He even compares Fox to a classic movie actress. “Katharine Hepburn, one of the most appreciated actresses today, was hated back in her heyday. She was box office poison…They didn’t understand her. Yet now we all look back and go, ‘Okay, she was incredible,'” he says.

Brolin hopes to help Fox find work with his own film production company. “I would love to be the person who puts Megan in a film in which she can actually do something interesting.”

[From Us Weekly]

Okay, I kind of love the way he explains the domestic battery arrest. That must have been a hell of a fight – and I would love to think of Diane Lane that way. The kind of woman who would call the cops on her husband in the middle of drunken pissing match, because you know that’s exactly what it was. They were probably both sh-tfaced and they started fighting, and Josh was all “go f-ck yourself” and Diane was all “You piece of sh-t, Imma gonna call the cops and you can spend the night in jail thinking about what you just f-cking said to me.”

The cigarette does nothing for the photograph. Who was the moron photographer? Who is the idiot editor of this magazine?
Apart from that, Josh is hot!

  2. Po says:

Ok, so either his wife is the type of person who would call the police just to be vindictive or he is a complete liar. Either way one of them is an ass. If I were him I wouldn’t tell that story anymore.

  3. LB says:

I tend to believe he didn’t cheat on his wife. I hate those magazines that analyze pictures to determine the state of a relationship because they always pick certain pictures to make a point. But I’ve never seen a picture of Josh Brolin and Diane Lane where he didn’t look completely enthralled with her.

I don’t know what the spousal battery thing was about. But it’s something that he and his wife clearly resolved and we haven’t heard of similar stories since. I tend to believe it’s something they’ve gotten past even if the public hasn’t.

  4. Lady Jane says:

Sorry – those goatee things just always reek of white trash to me. Shave or grow a beard for the love of pete.

  5. Stronzilla says:

Nobody goes to jail because they ‘talked big’. If he still feels rage about it 6 years later then I hope Diane has the cops on speed dial.

  6. Rita says:

I like the way he comes off in this interview, straight and no sh!t unless its just a very good acting job. As far as Lane calling the cops, I think thats poultry (chicken sh!t Charley Sheenisk). I like Lane but not chicks that over reach a situation by calling the cops just for the vanity of it.

  7. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

As if he was going to say ” Yes, I beat my wife”.

  8. ruru says:

One of the biggest shockers for me was watching “The Goonies” for the first time in 10 years and realising that Josh Brolin was the big brother character.

  9. Jillian says:

    I love him.

  10. Sherri says:

Exactly, was he really going to admit to beating or hitting his wife? – Somethings just not right about this guy although, he sure is pleasing on the eye – him using the word ‘rage’ about something that happened years ago is unsettling.

  11. Jen says:

I don’t even smoke, and I need a cigarette after reading that interview and seeing those pics. Thank you, Kaiser!

  12. Lisa says:

He probably did hit her but she didnt take his shit.. good for her..

  13. Leticia says:

His brow is low, which does not make him look smart. Then he speaks and he does not sound smart.

  14. Hautie says:

He has that cigarette in his hand cause he smokes. Pretty much non stop.

Now I take his statement about the cops as him being a loud, screaming, threatening ass to her in a fight. That she feared was about to end in a physical fight.

    So she called the cops.

So he never technically “hit” her. And lets be honest, it probably wasn’t the first time he had gotten loud and threatening towards her. But I bet it was the last time.

  15. CIdee says:

    Hottest. Guy. Ever.

  16. aj says:

    Oh please, what a wanker.

  17. Stephie says:

Love Diane Lane but her hubby gives me the creeps. Not hot. I like what he said about Barbra and his father tho.

  18. kelbear says:

Love him!! I laugh every time I see The Goonies because he is so much older now and more serious.

  19. Lantana says:

Kaiser – I so agree with you. I think he probably is a douchebag, but he is so hot!

  20. Mairead says:

I think you hit the nail on the head there (‘scuse the pun) hautie. That’s what i thought, he threatened to hit her, she made a preemptive strike. The “rage” comment seems extreme, but it depends on who the rage is directed towards, and let’s not forget he’s an actor. They’re not always the most emotionally stable bunch.

I’d like to believe that he’s not a cheater, but I’d say he’s a pain in the behind fairly regularly. I’d like not to let that cloud my judgement of his acting, as he is a bloody good actor. He even managed to salvage somewhat the Oliver Stone hot-mess that was “W”, by giving a solid, but sympathetic, performance.

Speaking of vintage Brolin, he was always my favourite out of “The Pony Express” (or was it The Young Riders? dating myself there anyway). Anyone else remember that, back when Stephen Baldwin was cute?

  21. Blaster says:

Hahaha, I’m surprised you didn’t comment on his thoughts about Megan Fox…

  22. Linda says:

Cigarettes are reason enough to divorce.

  23. Jeri says:

He didn’t used to appeal to me but to me he has gotten hotter with age. Now I think he is Sexxzy!

Or maybe I took a second look after he got with Diane Lane, if she’s interested there’s gotta be something there.

  24. Annie says:

    Po- Exactly right.

  25. Karen says:

    I’m itching to finish Josh’s sentence. “I don’t f-ck around on my wife…*anymore*”. I take it as “I don’t currently screw around”.

Either way, Hollywood marriages aren’t for the faint of heart. I hope whatever anger issues which arose at the start of their relationship have been resolved through lots of talking, counselling and forgiveness. If they are both in a good place with each other, then it’s no business of mine to say anything else.

  26. di butler says:

So, according to the comments, smoking is divorcable offense, even though Lane smokes too and knew he did, he went to jail, but it’s ok because he’s really hot? This is not how domestic abuse arrests work. If he was arrested, (and he was, then something more than yelling occurred. He has a horrible rep around H’wood as a wife beater and a womanizer. What leads you to believe Lane calling the cops means she doesn’t take it? Abused women on Cops call them, too. I was in an abusive relationship for 15 yrs. Women leave and call the cops often, doesn’t mean they leave or even give up on the relationship. Just ask Nicole Simpson.

  27. Jesss says:

As an aside, I love the idea of ‘Hot Guy Friday’ as a measurement of Hot

“Sure, he’s hot, but is he HGF-Hot?”

“Meh, Maybe he’s a Wednesday or a Thursday, but he definitely ain’t HGF-Hot’

  28. dvz says:

It’s been a not so well kept secret that he beats the hell out of his wife, not often, but when he does it’s really bad to the point where she can’t leave the house. I believe it. I don’t find him hot, I find him scary.

Sean Penn used to beat on his now ex wife. I live in Marin where they lived until recently. My boyfriend and I would see them in restaurants often drunk and/or coked out (both of them) screaming like banshees at each other. I saw him smack her in the face in the Whole Foods parking lot, and she just rolled with it like it was a pat on the head. Lovely. They got away with it because…well it’s Marin. Marin might be beautiful, but the people are not.

  29. Mistral says:

Sooo…did he or didn’t he raise a hand to his wife? Or did he make some incredibly violent verbal threat? I still can’t figure it out…

  30. Leek says:

    I kind of love him.

  31. Mouse says:

I agree he’s good looking, but I like him better clean shaven.

  32. d says:

Possibly a douchebag, but hot in a bad boy kind of way.
Know who else I’d like to see on HGF? Skeet Ulrich. Yum.

  33. Boxy Lady says:

Sean Penn beat *both* of his ex-wives. As for JB and DL, I remember a few yrs ago DL was downplaying the police call as well which could mean that nothing really happened as they’ve both said, OR something really did happen and they just aren’t talking about it. And for the record, in some places, if there is a domestic disturbance call, the two parties must spend the night apart, no matter what.
