Mel Gibson: “I really am losing my grip… I’m a f-cking failure”

TMZ is still extraordinarily butt-hurt about Radar getting all of those tapes of Mel Gibson’s ranting about blow jobs and glum c-nts (amongst other gems). So “somehow” TMZ got their hands on a series of emails/texts between Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva. “Somehow” being “when Mel Gibson’s lawyer hand-delivered the printed exchange directly to TMZ‘s office.” TMZ is still running blatantly anti-Oksana stories nearly everyday, by the way – and they’re pretty much the only ones. For some “reason” I guess Mel’s team just feel safe leaking sh-t to them, but whatever.

So, the email exchange… it’s interesting. TMZ focuses only what Oksana wrote – and this is back in March of this year, after Mel not-so-allegedly beat the hell out of her. But what Mel wrote to Oksana is interesting too. Here are the basics:

Mel: “I really am losing my grip. I desperately need a solution. Sorry it has to affect you. I can’t stand anything any more … I’m stuck. I try to be ok but it overpowers me & i’m (sic) something I don’t want to be. It’s a primal scream thing. The pain is too great & everywhere I turn is making it heavier. Oh to have peace! Oh to have joy. Oh to be able to provide it for another. I’m a f—— failure.”

Oksana: “Please don’t torcher urself like that, please!!!! U dint do anything to be so hard on urself. U r amazing man and always will be in my eyes and I will make sure Lucy knows it. U r an anusually extraordinary person. Ur versitile talent speaks louder than the words! U r capable to make a masterpiece about jesus and to build the church for him! U r just one person, but u did this! In itself it’s a lifetime wearthy atchivements, but for only chosen one. I love u, that doesn’t change. Even if u don’t want it anymore.”

Mel: “I felt a high degree of agitation in you when u left tonight. I’m sorry. I guess I’m in a process of being torn down so I can rebuild … I love you … I was terrified of where we were going & my outbursts & the potential for damage.”

[From TMZ and Us Weekly]

Ugh. What is there to say? I could try to explain away Oksana’s message as a beaten woman trying to soothe the Monster known as Mel. But obviously, they had a very complicated relationship, and as we already know, Oksana was not the most perfect “victim” of domestic abuse – she went back to her abuser, she kept in contact with her abuser, and obviously, she still had and has a vested interest in her abuser’s life – he is the father of her daughter, after all. But Mel’s initial message is interesting – he’s such a classic stereotype – he is so petty and jealous and insane and he has a breaking point and lashes out violently, and then he “comes down” and is meek and self-loathing. My opinion? There is something wrong with him, chemically. Not that a chemical imbalance is an appropriate justification for hitting the mother of your child, but it does explain the Monster.

Oksana Grigorieva left her lawyer's office in Santa Monica, CA looking quite happy. Perhaps she just got some good news concerning her never ending disputes with ex Mel Gibson! Fame Pictures, Inc

Wearing a cross and a saint necklace, Oksana Grigorieva, ex-girlfriend and mother of Mel Gibson s child, made her way into yet another attorney's office this afternoon in Los Angeles, Ca on July 23, 2010. Fame Pictures, Inc

Wow.. her email was “torcher” to read.

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Holy misspelled words, Batman!!!! LMAO is he trying to make us think Oksana is an idiot? LOL Mel Gibson is so sober he writes perfect messages and is so self deprecating, lol Bulls*it, no way he wrote that. We are supposed to believe Oksana writes an email like two teens IMing each other. OMG she misspelled torture and achievement. LOL. Gimme a break Mel. Does he expect us to believe that he wrote “high degree of agitation” without dropping a C bomb. This is f*cking hilarious…and fake as sh*t.

  3. Rita says:

I’m convinced that his “quirkiness” in his movies was/is a reflection of a problem that is getting worse with age. He seems to realize it and needs professional help ASAP before his mind melts into a place from which he cannot return. Being a mean rotten person is one thing, but if it’s driven by illness and demons it’s another. Be a man Mel and get some help!!!

  4. Val says:

Um, no. I am not buying this. “Oh to have peace” or “su*k my c*ck you whore” (ok I’m paraphrasing) I’m calling BS on the emails.

  5. spinner says:

I would hate to have my personal shit laid out for all to see. Yes indeed, this is complicated but also should be kept private.

  6. Jezi says:

Regardless if it was real or not I do believe that there is a chemical imbalance going on. He sounds bi-polar. Extreme highs and lows and just the nonsense. Many people who are bi-polar turn to drugs and alcohol, they try to self medicate. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something severly psychologically wrong with him. The domestic abuse aside, he needs help.

  7. Brittney says:

Usually I’m appreciative of your coverage of this situation, but that last paragraph absolutely disgusted me.

“Oksana was not the most perfect ‘victim’ of domestic abuse”… there’s a barometer for perfection in people who have been abused and grossly disrespected? The word “victim” gets quotes around it? I don’t think anyone can dispute the fact that she was victimized by this monster. And what you go on to enumerate in that sentence… that she went back to him, that she stayed in contact, that she needs him in her life as the father of her child… those are just three more proofs that hers is a textbook case of domestic abuse. This almost ALWAYS happens. It’s party of the psychological breakdown of the victim. (Not the “victim.”)

And you know all of that, Kaiser.

I agree that Mel has serious mental issues and that he needs help for them, but I’m horrified at how you just described Oksana. I’m really hoping you’re somehow just satirizing the way TMZ and other sources have treated the situation. In fact, that seems the only likely explanation…

  8. sashavice says:

Are Oksana and Octomom the same person?

  9. original kate says:

    over this.

  10. Riley says:

I almost puked when she wrote that, basically, Mel Gibson is the only person on the planet smart enough, talented enough, Catholic enough to make a “masterpiece” about Jesus. I am sure ten years ago or so, Jesus got his people to phone up Gibson and offer him the opportunity to document the Passion on film. “Mel, hey, yeah, it’s me, Jesus. Look, I want to make a movie about my death and resurrection and I feel pretty certain you are the guy to direct it.”

  11. Johnny'sGirl says:

@sashavice… I have been wondering the same thing. Oksana and Octomom look EXACTLY alike.. Its creepy….

  12. Stronzilla says:

Let’s just say ‘U r an anus’ and leave it at that.

  13. Annie says:

    Brittney,

Kaiser has been very clear about her feelings on this and there is no doubt whatsoever that she is totally intolerant of anyone who questions the victim of domestic abuse.

  14. GossBelle says:

    He’s a prick.

But all I can ever think in all this is “why oh why Timothy Dalton did you tap that?”

  15. Kitten says:

    Fake.

  16. Crash2GO2 says:

Only one comment: English is a second language for her, so find something else to pick on besides the spelling. Good Lord.

  17. Kaiser says:

Brittney – WTF? That was an extremely condescending and inaccurate interpretation of what I wrote. Get a grip.

  18. MrsOdie2 says:

English is a second language to her, but bullsh#t she’s clearly fluent in.

  19. Moreaces says:

I would hate to have my personal shit laid out for all to see. Yes indeed, this is complicated but also should be kept private.
    ===========
I know, I felt a little dirty reading it.

  20. Moreaces says:

Are Oksana and Octomom the same person?

    ==========
I was thinking the exact same thing

  21. TaylorB says:

Oh Mel dearest you are not a failure! However you are an a**hole.

  22. Anna says:

Usually folks side with the more famous half of a couple; therefore most would believe Mel even if there was video of him hitting Oksana.

  23. The Juror says:

I just wanted to mention that when this is all over and done and the narrative in the press changes and your oversimplification of events is trampled under foot, I am going to show up at your front door holding Mel Gibson’s hand. Oh the things you’ll see !!

  24. Cirque28 says:

Mel might well be chemically imbalanced, but I don’t see meekness in this exchange. He’s still being abusive– he’s just switching tactics. And he’s still deeply narcissistic. MEL is miserable, MEL is losing it, everyone should be nicer to MEL (and not have “a high degree of agitation”).

Oksana says, “I will make sure Lucy knows it” as in “…if you die.” She sounds panicked to me. I think she’s terrified that his final act of violence will be against himself and she’ll be (morally) responsible. She’s more frightened of that than she is of what he might do to her. Which is a classic co-dependent way to feel. I’m sure he made it clear to her that she could and should save him. That’s a heavy load to bear, especially when you think of explaining to your daughter for years to come why her father is dead. Oksana’s had it drilled into her head that she MUST take care of him him HIM.

Mel, meanwhile, is far too selfish to suicide. He’s the star of the Mel show and would never leave it without first exhausting all attempts to control everyone. Why his team thought these messages make him look better, I can’t imagine.

  25. jodie says:

The more she releases to the public, the more I feel she’s out for money. Notice she hired PR gurus. If my childs life was at stake the last thing I would care about is my public image I would use whatever legal means necessary. I bet these emails and the recordings get thrown out of court.

  26. gg says:

In her defence, not that I like her and her ilk, but English is a second language for her, and she’s also an artistic type – she’s not going to be that great at English spelling.

  27. jane16 says:

Sounds fake. CDAN did a post on this today and here’s a portion of what enty wrote:

“TMZ obtained an e-mail from Mel Gibson and the reply from Oksana Grigorieva. It is pretty obvious TMZ got the e-mails from someone on Mel’s side since they have been huge Mel supporters from day one. As I have said before, you cannot have that Warner Brothers library go to crap so TMZ and the other Warner Brothers subsidiaries have been stepping up and making sure Mel gets as much positive spin on things as they can. Don’t ever forget who owns TMZ when you read Mel Gibson stories on their site because they will never tell you.”

Can’t trust TMZ, at all, for anything.

  28. GatsbyGal says:

TMZ makes me sick. They ran a poll, a “Who is ultimately to blame?” pool, and last I checked Oksana was winning with like around 65%. So gross that anyone would think that.

And yes, Mel, you ARE a fucking failure. I know we’re technically not allowed on this site to wish death on anyone…buuuuut, if Mel were to perhaps kill himself, I’d probably celebrate.

  29. Liana says:

Man, I can’t stand Mel Gibson or this entire situation.

  30. california angel says:

Comment #5 – It is not a matter of privacy or lack thereof, it’s the fact that if people cannot go public with /or/ go to the authorities with this information and discuss it candidly and publicly, how are the victims ever going to get help. I think all of this information should be revealed and discussed as much as possible! Victims of abuse are still not taken seriously and police and the judicial system can’t help everyone; especially if the victim doesn’t report incidences of abuse or if they have not yet established a “pattern of abuse”.(Reference the Charlie Sheen article, people usually get away with it the first couple of times until it becomes habitually documented). Also, other people in similar situations might know that they’re not alone and that they are empowered to take action. Someone’s privacy goes out the window when they beat the crap out of someone else, esp. their wife and the mother of their children, so f*** Mel Gibson’s privacy IMO.

  31. Mistral says:

Well, it’s normal for her to misspell things—English is a second language. Honestly, I didn’t like the whole “not the most perfect ‘victim’ of abuse” line. She is a victim, and that is that.

You can see that she is trying to soothe him. If you’re dealing with a person who is as unbalanced as Mel, you’re going to try to keep him calm. She probably wrote this while still trying to work out their problems and thinking he will get help and go back to the charming man she fell for and whose company she enjoyed. She probably cared for him, he’s the father of her daughter, why wouldn’t she try to make him feel better about himself? She realizes he is sick and wants him to get better. She was probably worried he’d kill himself.

Yes, he abused her, but most people are abused by people they love and who should love them. So, it isn’t strange for her to be writing stuff like this to him, even though he is hurting her. She probably understands that he is in mental turmoil, and thus it wasn’t completely his fault (brain chemistry and all that). It takes a while for people to break away.

  32. OXA says:

I believe that Mel is a raging narcissist with a chemical imbalance. I am sure that Oksana has experienced his rages before so was trying to placate him & stroke his ego to calm him down and lessen his dangerous behaviour. Who in life is prepared to deal with Mel’s kind of irrational behavior and while taking care of a newborn. We can all say we would have cut his nuts off and called the cops but we were not the victim of his terrorizing or the new mother of his child.

  33. albeli says:

    Yes, Mel, you are.

And Oksana isn’t coming off well at all, either.

I think they both suck, and I could do with less coverage of them from here on out.

  34. albeli says:

    To clarify:

My previous comment was not about her obvious ESL language issues. I give her a pass on that.

I’m just having major questions about her motives, where at first I was on her side.

  35. Debbie says:

And WE are meant to BELIEVE THESE WHY????…………..
    Totally bullshit and fake

    Debbie

  36. Lady Lurker says:

Um. TMZ leaked the first Mel Gibson story–the drunk driving incident. So why didn’t being a Warner Brothers subsidiary keep them from giving Mel bad press then?

  37. eric blue says:

no mr gibson your not a failure, you rock. for all theses years and decades you have entertained us. long befor all these wanna bes came along, you put movies out from action to drama to kick ass, these people are jealous thats all it is this.the last shit with the tapes is no ones biz,and the other shit was a joke,if i was pulled over and said the stuff u said i just would have been beaten up.keep a stiff upper lip mr gibson, oh and fuck them cock suckers. you rock.never forget that bro, love yas eric blue

  38. Missy Aggravation says:

The correspondence reads like a classic co-dependent relationship.

“I’m sorry I beat the shit out of you, honey. You just really know how to push my buttons.”

“I’m sorry, too. I should have known better than to upset you.”

Been there. Done that. Have the dislocated shoulder.

Mel is still a fucking asshole.

  39. DiMi says:

I think he’s been in treatment for awhile. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d gone off his meds. Remember, in the tapes she says that he is seeing a psychiatrist, but that the psychiatrist is not treating him properly. I think it’s a well-known fact that he suffers from depression at the very least, and possibly from bipolar disorder or some other sever mental health situation. But I never pity rich people with mental illnesses because they have access to the best treatment in the world if they want it.

  40. jane16 says:

@ Lady Lurker, too easy. Warner Bros didn’t snap up TMZ until last year (2009). Mel’s famous drunk driving arrest was in 2006. Its easy to look up.

  41. Daisy says:

What a creepy situation for everyone involved. Men with money should use MG as a learning tool. And when I say ‘tool’ I mean it in every sense of the word. Guess what, guys? The ladies are blowing smoke up your behind for one reason – MONEY. You got it, they want it. It’s not love. Delusion at its finest.

  42. Alexa says:

In defense of @Brittney – I misunderstood what was written too. I must have not been reading carefully. Glad it was a misunderstanding. I’ve been in Oksana’s shoes and it sucks bad!

  43. gemima says:

lol at the people dissing tmz here. have all of you checked radar online recently? they have the texts of mel gibson and oksana about the alleged extortion. oksana messaged her supposed abuser that she only played the tapes because she felt that he wasn’t being generous enough to luciana and that he was treating her like an illegitimate child. i’m sorry, but a woman who is supposedly abused, and who suffers from battered woman syndrome would never have had the guts to text her abuser in that way. in fact, she would never have even dared to, because she is that scared of her abuser. you all keep talking about battered woman syndrome, but in most cases, the women who are in these relationships tend to blame themselves for what their abusers did to them. oksana never once did that on the tapes, in fact, she even says at one point to mel that he was going to pay. she was almost taunting him during those recordings, there was no fear whatsoever in her voice, she didn’t even try to appease him at all. but in the emails she sent him, she says that he did not do anything to torture himself. why would she be inconsistent in how she treats mel if she truly fears him? and also, if she was that scared, why didn’t she contact the police first instead of a lawyer? why did she try to negotiate a settlement with mel gibson if she thought that her life was at risk? and she only released the tapes after she changed her mind about the agreement. why would she wait that long to release it if she knew that she was in immediate danger from mel?

  44. gemima says:

nd also, most of you all seem to forget the fact that this woman is still living at mel’s house together with her entire family, and is chasing after mel gibson for more child support and wanting to sue him. plus, she asked her lawyers to go on the Today show to launch her pr blitz, because she feels that the public is turning on her. plz tell me how many abused women out there have actually done this? most of the ones i know or have heard about try to stay away from their abuser as much as possible because they just want peace and security. and most of them don’t usually want or care too much about pr because they have other things to worry about, like their safety.

  45. gemima says:

and btw, if these emails are supposedly fake, why didn’t oksana and her lawyers react to this? knowing oksana and her team, they’d probably be filing or making it known that they’d sue mel for defamation by now.

  46. chi chi says:

what? damn,i like TMZ and never considered they would cater to their owner. i’ll have to remember that. yikes~!

  47. Absolute torcher to read. And yes – reads like a snow-job. Please take these two outside and shoot them.

  48. Thank you celebitchy for standing up for women. I have been disgusted to see the drivel – ranging from abuse apologists who decry Oksana’s possible motives to starstruck fools who can’t separate movie stars from the heroes they play onscreen – in support of Mad Mel, that is to be found all over the Internet, especially on YouTube. I was interested to recently discover a Winona Ryder interview in GQ last year (2010) in which she recalls meeting Mad Mel at a party 15 years ago and being subjected to comments that were both homophobic (her date was a gay man) and racist (when he found out she was Jewish he made a remark about “oven dodgers”. She said that no one believed her at the time. He would have been at the height of his fame then. This is a man with serious issues and I’m just really disappointed that so many people out there are so quick to condemn a woman who married a rich celebrity, as if she should be so lucky and put up with whatever abuse as the price of her status. If you look in his eyes he is clearly a lost and damaged soul. I know it’s said that he doesn’t drink anymore but he looks like a drunk; haunted and hollow. Relationships are complicated but in whatever way she may have “aggravated” him, his actions clearly are way beyond the bounds of acceptability. And his comments about her tight clothing inviting rape by a “pack of niggers” shows that he is clearly both a hyper-controlling man, a misogynist and a racist.
