Naomi Campbell on testifying at the Hague: “I was used as a scapegoat”

Naomi Campbell is still bruised from her bust-up at The Hague back in August. After prosecutors at former Liberian despot Charles Taylor’s tribunal subpoenaed Naomi to appear, Naomi ended up taking the stand the first week in August. She proceeded to change her story drastically from her previous public statements about accepting blood diamonds from Taylor’s men, and the circumstances in which she received the uncut diamonds. Mia Farrow later took the stand and called Naomi out, for which Mia is still likely waiting for her eventual mauling by The Naomi Beast. Anyway, Naomi testified under oath and the whole ordeal was over, and Naomi didn’t even have to face a perjury charge (boo!). She did, however, drop this gem while she was testifying: “This is a big inconvenience for me. I really don’t want anything to do with this, and I care about the protection of my family. This is someone [Charles Taylor] that I read on the internet has killed thousands of people, supposedly, and I don’t want my family in any danger in any way.”

Did you think that was the end of it? That an “inconvenienced” Naomi would just move on and hope and pray that everyone else moved on as well? Of course not. Naomi just gave an interview to Sky TV, and she is still drowning in her own victimhood. POOR NAOMI.

Naomi Campbell, the supermodel, has said she was “used as a scapegoat” at the war crimes trials of the former Liberian president Charles Taylor. Campbell, 40, told the court in The Hague last month that she had been given a pouch of “dirty stones” by two men hours after she met Mr Taylor. She denied knowing that they were from the former leader of Liberia.

In an interview with Sky News to mark 25 years in the fashion business she said: “What you have to understand is, I was not on trial. I was forced by subpoena to testify. It was nothing to do with me. This trial has been going on for how many years and no-one cared to write about it? You bring Naomi Campbell to the stand and the whole world knows. So as far as I was concerned, I was used as a scapegoat.”

“I told and remembered what I could to the best of my ability – it was 13 years ago,” she said. “I do not think what he did to his people is correct, I didn’t condone that and I will never condone that. And I don’t see why I should sit here, or wherever I go around the world, as if this was my trial. I was a witness.”

As a 40-year-old, Campbell says her priorities have changed. Moving away from the negativity surrounding her private life she says she is helping those in need and those following in her footsteps.

“I wouldn’t say it hasn’t been a challenge – because my whole career’s been a challenge, especially as a woman of colour. But I’ve been extremely blessed and all I want to know is that I’ve made a difference and opened the door for other women of colour who are coming behind me.”

Campbell insists she holds no grudges, tries to forgive people and hopes in turn that people forgive her. Putting the Taylor trial behind her, the model added: “My life goes on. I helped as much as I could and anyone who sees that differently and thinks it was my trial, well, there’s nothing I can do about that.”

[From Sky News & Telegraph]

“ME! ME! ME! It’s all about ME!” Naomi wept, knowing there were no more worlds to conquer. Also: Naomi seems to think that she’s the biggest victim of Charles Taylor’s atrocities, not the thousands of people who actually lost their lives. As far as the “scapegoat” stuff and the “And I don’t see why I should sit here, or wherever I go around the world, as if this was my trial. I was a witness” stuff… well… here’s the thing: Naomi protested and bitched and moaned and kept lying her ass off, giving different stories to different media outlets before she was even subpoenaed. People were paying attention to THAT – the lies, and the calling out of a liar. And yes, they were paying attention to her, because she’s a famous model. And a famously temperamental model who shoved a camera into a bar when she was asked about Charles Taylor once. We were watching and paying attention because she’s such an entitled bitch, and we were waiting for her to beat someone with a phone.

I love this photo… her boyfriend Doronin looks like he’s startled because he thinks he’s about to be beaten. What has she done to this poor man?

  5. hatsumomo says:

I kinda always thought Fantasia’s new mushroom cap thing is her ghetto take on Naomi’s hair at the Hague trial. Naomi look classy, but fantasia still looked low-budget.

  6. searching4grace says:

i’ve always thought it too bad that money can’t buy class. especially in her case. plus i wish she would use scapegoat correctly. they’re not trying to pin anything on her they just wanted the truth.

*eye roll* Yeah, Naomi’s life is so hard. It’s tough being caught LYING and acting like a victim to deflect those lies.

  11. juliana says:

I’ve seen goats with better manners than Naomi. Does that count?

  12. LindaR says:

She has the goat part right, anyway.

  13. Samigirl says:

I LOVE how she plays the race card. Nobody cares what color you are when you are that gorgeous.

  14. TaylorB says:

Hey Naomi, guess what else it a “big inconvenience”? Being forced to mine diamonds in a war torn country for little or no money, in terrible working conditions, constantly under the threat of bodily harm.

  15. Lady D says:

Nobody’s ever going to get through to her, are they? How does one become so, so blind to everything but themselves? My imagination is in pain trying to cope with her thought processes.

  16. TaylorB says:

“My imagination is in pain trying to cope with her thought processes.”

Don’t be pained, she has a ‘thought process’, but unlike most of us hers seems to include pelting other people in the head with various objects over trivial issues.

  17. Glynna says:

People here seems obsessed with Naomi getting hurt/feeling pain.
Naomi is living her wealthy classy life and we are sitting in some dark place pounding on keyboards hating and evil wishing on her – Too bad she doesn’t care what we think of her 🙂

  18. Trillion says:

She uses this as an opportunity to remind the world that she opened doors for other models? I mean, perhaps this is the truth, but isn’t it best to let other people make such a statement? It comes off very poorly. Just like everything else she’s near.

  19. CB Rawks says:

“because my whole career’s been a challenge, especially as a woman of colour.”

What a crock! She’s been super popular and over-exposed as a model for decades. Also, she’s not the first black super model! Beverly Johnson and Grace Jones were around before her.

  20. Cherry says:

Is her elbow ashy in that last picture?…..what? what? I’m black, we notice such things.

  21. Trillion says:

And Iman, who by the way kicks Heidi Klum’s butt as a Project Runway host.

  22. Mugu Yaro says:

Oh f@ck it! What’s the whole fuss? They drag her up into the Hague to testify at the trial of another corrupt African despot & we treat her like she committed genocide? All this whilst Bush & Cheney still run around? Their war is still on…it is now Obama’s problem…they on the other hand are still creaming it! Our collective hypocrisy is marvel to behold.

  23. Chi Chi says:

    Hey Kaiser

The fact of the matter is no one in the main stream media or the wider American public at large would have been at all interested in this tribunal or even heard of Charles Taylor, if Na0mi was not being called to testify! Hate her if you want but she has a point! she was not on trial she was a mere witness, one of 1000’s. Fair enough some of her stories may have differed in media outlets, and she does have an attitude, but how accurate are the media? plus it could also be down to nerves. I feel she was an easy target for the press and she is justified in feeling a bit like a scapegoat!!

  24. Chris says:

FFS go and do some work, Biatch!

  25. cedar falls says:

@ Glynna: “Too bad she doesn’t care what we think of her”

Ermmm… she obviously does care, or she wouldn’t be whining about her media portrayal to Sky TV!!

  26. Mitzi says:

How many poor Taiwanese sweat-shop workers did it take to make that f**king AWFUL wig?
