Jessica Simpson’s new country song

Jessica Simpson has a new country single out, and while I’m not an expert in the genre it sounds ok. It’s kind of decent and is a little better than that bland forgettable shit she last put out as a pop singer. She doesn’t have anything on Carrie Underwood, but she can definitely sing and crank out these country pop songs.

Jessica and Tony Romo are back together after their much-talked about but unconfirmed split. The two were seen dining out in Dallas over Memorial Day weekend. A lot of people wondered if Tony attended Jessica’s sister Ashlee’s wedding in order to help Jessica save face, but it sounds like he was also willing to reconcile with her. The supposed insider scoop from The Chicago Sun Times has Tony in a standoff with the needy singer over her meddling dad:

”He did agree to go to [sister Ashlee’s] wedding — keeping his promise to Jessica,” Romo’s Eastern Illinois alum chum told me. ”But he made it super-clear that if they were to give it another go, her dad had to seriously back off.”

My source says Romo has told Jessica their renewed relationship is ”a trial thing,” dependent on Daddy Joe ”leaving them alone” and stifling his tendency to tell Romo how to run his life, career and endorsement deals.

[From The Chicago Sun Times via TMZ]

Maybe Tony’s ultimatum will help Jessica break away from her father. In an appearance on “The View” way back in September, 2006, Jessica joked about her manager dad saying “My dad just tries to control me and my sister… that was the wrong choice of words. Oops, sorry dad! I love you!” She also denied dating John Mayer at that time, saying they were “just friends,” and it’s possible that was true when she said it, although I doubt it.

  1. Oh dammit, that IS catchy. And I hate country music.

  3. I liked it. I think country suits her voice better than any crazy vocal gymnastics she attempted with pop singing. Pop was the it thing when she came onto the scene, that maybe she was clouded by what would sell and what would give her longevity. (That was a hint towards Pimpa Joe, btw lol)

  4. The back up singers are too over powering, but the beat is catchy. She’s not bad, but I don’t think she holds a candle to Christina Aguilera.

  7. This song isn’t above the rest of the catchy, yet utterly disposable and instantly forgettable rubbish that’s being released by every other country/pop female singer nowadays.

And even though I do agree that it suits Jessica’s new voice, with its considerably shortened range and much weaker timbre, I don’t think that it is better than what she’s done before. Actually, I feel sad that the powerhouse who delivered ‘I Wanna Love You Forever’ has been reduced to singalong cheesy drivel like this.

Not to mention that everybody else is right: Carrie Underwood does it a million times better (could it be because she still has a voice?). Anyway, good luck to Jessica. She needs it VERY MUCH.

  8. I can’t listen to it at work but…. jessica does have a voice its just totally over blown. I wanna love you forever was one of the most PAINFUL songs I’ve ever sat through. Just yelling and noise.

She can belt and has talent but I hate how she manipulates her voice. I’ll be interested to take a listen to this when I get home. It’d be nice to hear her toned down a bit.

  10. I was a roadie for a country band for a little while once. I was not born country, but I did the required buggy-lugging well enough. I found out that you were either country or you are pretending to be country. Country people can be kind, but that kindness really can’t make you what you are not. I think it is best not to pretend to be what you are not.

I don’t get the feeling Jessica knows what she is and she is always pretending, so she must be in it only for the bucks and the fame. (Some people are in it because their talent
is the result of a driven passion.) Most people sense this falseness with Jessica and this is where all her problems come from. You are either invited to the party or you are
always crashing it. People have a negative view of party crashers. It’s just the way it is.

  12. This chick is so pathetic! She is a nothing/nobody tabloid whore who now has to make agreements about daddy so she can keep the man who is keeping her in the tabloid press. Maybe when Tony comes to his senses and dumps her she can hook up with TO. Think of the press she can get for that. Country Album? Yeah, Right lets all go buy it

  15. As much as I hate to say it, I think she could actually revive her career doing country music. Probably not with this particular song though because it sucks. But keep trying.

  16. I like this much better than her Pop stuff.

But it sounds like she’s trying too hard, just RELAX.

I think it will be popluar in country music.

  18. I really like it! It is way better then that other crap she used to sing. Her voice sounds much better singing country.

  19. I like country music and this is hideous. What do we do with singers who can’t sing anything?

  20. Yuk. She. Cannot. Sing.

  21. This is her trying to cash in on the Carrie Underwood phenomenon.

Soon, she’ll come out with a hip hop album and then do a duet with her brother-in-law’s band for shits and giggles.

All in all, the only thing she seems best suited for is singing obnoxious love songs created for tweens with Hannah Montana sheets on their twin day beds.

  22. No. N.O.

Dressing up in flannel and looking western-ish does not make you a country singer. Faith Hill was hugely successful in country music and made the crossover into pop, but Jessica seems to just flop at whatever genre she attacks. It’s not even a particularly good song. It has floppity flop flop all over it.

  23. eh. i have mixed feelings about it.. i use to like her when she first came out, when all the other pop girls were sluts and she stuck to her guns and didnt use her body to sell records! she seemed innocent and not as retarded. then she got married and started that newlyweds show and that ruined it for me. she started acting like she had no common sense. couldnt cook or even do her own laundry. started using sex appeal to sell her music. i do however think she sounds better country. all i listen to is country. i do agree she sometimes tries too hard. i think people would like her a lot better if she would just be herself and stop trying to make herself look like a dumb blonde! common, you know she aint THAT damn dumb!
