This is redic.

number one… the keffiyeh represents the ongoing Palestinian struggle. It DOES NOT represent terrorism.
Its also a scarf that protects the hot heat of the Middle Eastn during the day, and the chilly cool breezes of the night.
Its a tradtional Middle Eastern headdress for men, and it has become a large fashion trend world wide. They even re-create the keffiyeh, using bright colors, and other designs like hearts and skulls. And have been sold everywhere from small street shops, to stores like forever 21.

Urban outfitter was prob. one of the first stores to get it out there, yet it was protested by Israelis saying it was a terrorist scarf (which is prob what gave everyone the idea that was) yet the idea of the keffiyeh has been mocked by israelis with their idea of their keffiyeh in a light blue, with the star of david. This protest by Israelis on Urban Outfitter had forced the popular street store to take their keffiyehs off the shelves of their U.S stores, yet it remained on the shelves of their European stores.

It is not a terrorist scarf. It is simply a scarf traditionally worn in that region of the world. And fashionably worn all around the rest of the world. And by Rachel Ray wearing it, I am sure she had no other understanding of the scarf other then it being a simple fashion statement…

I had a black and white keffiyah that i was so happy to buy on St. Marks Place, NYC in about 1984.
I’d seen a deelish picture of Bob Geldof wearing one and was thrilled to cop his style.
Eighties NY the things were on everyone.
Back in Texas, not so much.
But I wore mine every day for sseveral years.
Moved to London in ’85 and they really were all over the place.

Once, in a Liverpool coffee shop , some guy started lecturing on the “meaning” of my scarf. I told the guy thaay I liked it, it was practical.
He said I wouldn’t feel that way if I were standing in the middle of the Israeli desert. (he was an american who claimed to be some sort of mercenary.)
Yeah , umm, ok mister.
I liked that scarf – I think it wound up as a sort of tablecloth.
Now it kinda makes me laugh to see the kaffeyeh thing springing up like dandelions, some 20 years later.

Alas , now we have dumbass shouters on TV stirring up people that could have as easily been convinced that a car chamois cloth is pure Terr-riss symbolism.
And don’t even go there with Swiffers. Everyone knows what those things really are!

I was lucky to have a simple, handsome American mercenary soldier.

The only crime Rachel Ray is guilty of is wearing that ugly scarf. Also, affiliating any type of clothing with a stereotype is only something a right-wing, gum-flapping, nonsensical idiot would do. That is like saying that if you wear a white tank, you are supporting Hispanic gangs. Come on, it’s not like she is pulling a Prince Harry here.

Seriously though, as an American, I was offended by Dunkin Donuts. It’s not cool to pull these ads and give in to that crazy “all middle eastern men are terrorists” propaganda. I’ll be boycotting for that reason, and I’ll write a letter too.

And, I say that as the whitest suburban girl on Earth. The person least likely to be racially profiled as anything. It’s still really f***ing offensive.

I really don’t see why she was wearing it in the ad, but why can’t she wear it. What’s the problem. That’s like saying when you travel to middle eastern countries you can’t but clothing and wear it here?
