Carey Mulligan & Keira Knightley look adorable at the ‘Never Let Me Go’ photocall

Do you want to see Never Let Me Go? I have had the book sitting beside my bed for too long. I want to read it before I watch it. But I will see it, if just to see these two girls, Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightly (with Andrew Garfield). These are pics from today’s photo call for the film in London. I like that Carey and Keira seem genuinely giggly and girly and sweet together, like they genuinely make each other laugh, rather than some vague girl-on-girl hate and one-upmanship (see: Leighton Meester and Blake Lively). What is making them laugh so much? English humor? Peter Sellers? Biscuits?

As far as fashion and styling… well, I like Carey’s whole look better. Mustard dress, cute blonde hair, nice makeup. It all looks good together. While I adore Keira new haircut and her skirt, I think everything put together looks kind of pleasantly disastrous. But they are both extremely cute girls. I kind of want to be their friend.

Also: Andrew Garfield is incredibly stiff. He’s not the most photogenic of men, and he should learn how to loosen up for the camera a little. Still, he’s kind of awkwardly cute.

Here’s the trailer for Never Let Me Go… it looks like a tear-jerker, right? I’m getting a little choked up at the trailer.

I think they’re laughing because they had a dare going – ” wear your ugliest outfit ever”

  2. Ferguson. says:

OH MY GOD, what in heaven’s name are they wearing?.

Andrew Garfield is so cute when he smiles 🙂

  3. PJ says:

The new shorter hairstyles look so refreshing! I’m so tired of the old long, flowing look that’s been popular for what seems like forever.

  4. Girafe99 says:

Keira stop pouting, we can all tell that your putting it on and that’s it not your natural look. Your pretty without the pout!

  5. LolaBella says:

    Damn, Keira is gorgeous!

  6. docalion says:

I don’t like their dress and they don’t seem real.

  7. Roxanne75 says:

    HAHA @ravensparrow. You nailed it.

  8. Lady D says:

I think you’re right Raven Sparrow. Those are some fug outfits.

  9. Katie says:

Andrew Garfield is sort of stiff in photos but he’s sexy on screen. He’s one of my new favorites.

  10. moxy says:

they were in pride and prejudice together too so they might actually be friends

  11. Sandy says:

Could wear anything these two. Beautiful and not annoying.

  12. Rianic says:

@Kaiser – the book will haunt you. I still can’t get it out of my mind, and I read it over six months ago. I have small children, so it touched me on that level. Then, to know you have no choice in your life – or death? I don’t want to give away spoilers, but this book will keep you up at might thinking.

  13. TQB says:

I’m with PJ, I adore the hair. The only negative thing I can say about Mulligan is that I kinda hate her for being able to grow out a pixie and consistently look adorable. The rest of us humans have to wear hats for at least a month to get over that.

  14. sammyhammy says:

What is up with those “hairstyles?” Hideous! When did it go out of fashion to use a comb or brush once in awhile-especially if you know you are going to be photographed?

Between the fug clothes and even fuglier hair, these pics are terrible.

  15. Mari says:

My friends would laugh at me if I showed up anywhere other than our “tacky day office party” wearing that.

  16. Lis says:

@moxy, I didn’t even realize Carey Mulligan was Kitty until I saw your comment.

I definitely want to see this movie just because I like them both. But I definitely have to read the book first.

  17. a says:

i love the yellow dress. she’s very cute.

although, in that first photo it looks like there are stains or spots on her yellow dress. Maybe it’s vintage?

  18. Bodhi says:

I think they both look AMAZING!

I wonder if there will be any salacious rumors about these two like there were when Kiera & Sienna filmed that Dylan Thomas movie together

  19. Bellatrix says:

To anyone who hasn’t yet read Ishiguro’s Never Me Let Go: please, don’t wait any longer. Get it at your local library, make a pot of tea and read it. Autumn is the perfect season to discover this beautiful novel.
It isn’t Ishiguro’s best work, in my opinion, but it is a very gripping and deeply tragic one.

Also, I can’t tell Keira to stop pouting. I have rather big lips and I end up having a pouty face on most pictures. It’s just something that some of us can’t help.

  20. Tia C says:

They don’t look adorable to me. They look like a couple of self-satisfied, smug twits.

Oh, and yes, just what we need – another tearjerker film. No thanks.

  21. Jenny says:

The book was amazing! Beautiful and haunting at the same time
Bellatrix, which is your favourite by Ishiguro? Other than Never Let Me Go I’v only read Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans (I only resently discovered Ishiguro), and the first was incredible, but I couldn’t quite get into Orphans…
I love Carey’s dress! I think it’s so pretty and I would love to be able to wear that colour…
Keira on the other hand…gorgeous girl but I don’t get her outfit

  22. I love Keira and always see any movie she’s in so i can’t wait because she has a few out soon. This definately looks good though.
I didn’t realise that Carey was Kitty either O_O i liked her in “Bleak House” too.

p.s I actually like Keira’s outfit more it’s like geeky cute lol

  23. sharylmj says:

they are pretty girls… seem real. those dresses are not pretty and seem unreal…

  24. dorothy says:

Love, love , love the hair on both. Dresses…not so much.

  25. archiepelago says:

Thanks Bellatrix – I will pick the book up.
And I also have that pout thing. People tell me to stop trying to make the ‘model mouth’ but it’s just the way I look in photos when I relax my mouth!

  26. Kelly says:

The dresses aren’t the best, but they still look so pretty! What a great-looking group of young people. Andrew Garfield – I just love him, I’ve watched the first film in the Red Riding Trilogy – 1974 – about 5 times just to swoon over him.

  27. Abby says:

They played sisters in Pride and Prejudice. I think I remember seeing in the behind the scenes that the whole “family” hung out all the time during filming so they became close.

Might have to see this one!

  28. Liana says:

I’ve always love Keira, and recently have begun growing fond of Carey. They don’t look smug, they look adorable. And OMG, I’ve seen “Never Let Me Go” at a private screening and while it is not as good as the book, I thought it was pretty damned wonderful.

  29. Bellatrix says:

To Jenny: my favourite from Ishiguro’s presently published work remains The Unconsoled. A very solid construction of the narration with a rather abrupt ending (which some people have found to be too easy or too lazy).
His British humour is less present in The Unconsoled than it was in The Remains of the Day, yet it still makes these punctual and regular appearances throughout the novel. The story finds its richness in the bittersweet paradox between the absurdity of some situations and the extreme tenderness of others.

To those who’ll pick up Never Let Me Go: enjoy it. Those Hailsham children will leave a deep impression on you. Don’t let the fogginess of the beginning keep you away from reading the rest. The book never clearly explains itself, blurring the lines of historical events our not that far away past is tainted with and possible futuristic outcomes. It is a highly endearing book for it touches ethical and philosophical issues without ever intellectualizing them. Ishiguro is a very respectful author, to both his characters and his (or should we say ‘their’?) readers.

  30. Sophie says:

Bellatrix, that’s a really great review of Never Let Me Go. It’s actually probably my favourite Ishiguro book, and it’s probably in my all-time Top 5 too. The first time I read it, I was so incredibly moved. His writing is exquisite. I read it again recently and it moved me to tears (yet again). It really is a wonderful book, and from the looks of it, a wonderful movie too (although I have to wait til January to see it in Ireland, boo hiss).

Anyway, I love them both. And it’s nice to see Keira, she hasn’t had a movie out in a while.

  31. Jenny says:

Thank you Bellatrix, I will definitely try to find the time to read The Unconsoled .
And you explained Never Let Me Go wonderfully. My thoughts exactly, only my English isn’t good enough for me to word them as well as you 🙂

  32. curegirl0421 says:

The movie was unbelievable… go see it!!!

  33. michael says:

what?? these 2 look absolutely adorable! i looooove these outfits! i’m gonna go get one for myself! i particularly love keira knightley’s! i wasn’t convinced with her her new do bc it seemed to posh, but she totally owns it & makes it look a lot more feminine.
    props to keira!

  34. Jeri says:

    They’re both very good looking.

The premise of the film sounds so depressing, I’m sure it’s good but not sure I want to be brought down that much.

  35. Catherine says:

Keira is darling with that haircut. Too cute.

  36. 6 says:

The haircut does work for Keira and she looks healthy. Go food!

  37. normade says:

I guess there’s no hard feelings over My Fair Lady

  38. gg says:

Photographic proof that you can go to the thrift store, chop some old tatty dress in two, and sew on the bottom of another old dress and wear it to get your picture taken.

  39. Tia C says:

@ gg: LOL! Exactly what I was thinking. Those outfits are hideous.
