Technically, they could have had some control over it. They could have done genetic testing on the embryos before the transfer (into the surrogate). Or if their were originally higher order multiples and they opted to reduce babies, they could have opted to terminate down to twins with the intention of having a boy and girl. You just never know. It isn't our business, really either. Congratulations and prayers for a happy transition into parenthood with TWO newborns (just one tends to kick my butt despite my experience with them).
