Its 2008 not 1958. I had my first child a week after my 20th birthday and I was a single mum. I got married at 21 and had three more kids by 27. I also got divorced 16 years later. I have a PhD, a very good job and am 3 months into my second marriage. All of my kids are doing well. I'm GLAD I didn't marry at 20. Bad enough just before my 22nd birthday. I was too young. Having a baby at 17 isn't the greatest thing in the world but it sure isn't the worst. She'll be fine. She has a hell of a lot more advantages than most 17 year olds in her situation. And the little one will be fine too as long as people calm down on the 'unmarried mother' rhetoric.
