Jack Black saw his butt on the big screen, plans to lose weight

It seems that it isn’t just women in Hollywood who are under pressure to be slim - Jack Black wants to lose a few pounds after seeing his bare behind on the big screen. I can completely sympathize, I feel the same way after seeing mine in a hand mirror.

“When I saw my rear end in my nude scene in Margot at the Wedding, it actually had a double chin,” he tells Parade.com. “I’ve joined a gym because the next time you see me naked I’ll be trim.”

Although looking good in nude scenes is priority No. 1, health played a factor in the 38-year-old’s decision as well.

“I want to feel good too,” he says. “Now If I eat a cheeseburger and fries, it tastes so good at the time and then right after it’s like, ‘What did I do? Why?’”

OK! Magazine

Rather appropriately, the character that was nude in the film is named Jeff “Fats” Portnoy, who is filming a Vietnam War movie when the director fires him mid-production.

I wasn’t really aware of the fact that Hollywood leading men felt the pressure to be slim, but I’ve heard that the camera adds ten pounds, so I guess it stands to reason you might feel the pressure to look your very fittest. I can’t say that I think it’s great that the men seem to be feeling the pressure too. I’d much rather hear that weight isn’t a concern if you have talent, which isn’t likely to happen.

There does seem to be a double standard, that even female comedians need to be slim and attractive in films. OK! Magazine describe Jack as being ‘lovably rotund’, which is not a description I expect to be given to any Hollywood actress anytime soon.

It’s great to see Jack doing it for his health, all the same. I never feel good after eating fast food, either.

Jack Black is shown at the Australian premiere of Kung Fu Panda yesterday, thanks to WENN.

  1. Any acting lessons in the future as well ?

    Kidding- gosh tough room…..

Seriously, I’ve loved Jack since his big scene in that movie The Jackal. His best role ever.

  2. Men get away with extra weight because, bottom line, other men really couldn’t give a shit about it. Men don’t devote their time to pouring over tabs and celeb rags pronouncing on who’s looking saggy, old, mottled, boil-ridden, thunder-thighed, wrinkled, etc in the way that women do. It’s our own fault. We are our own worst enemies. Pressure on men will never be the same as on women for that reason.

Jack Black suits chubby, like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

  3. Very eloquently put, Geronimo - excellent points. I always blamed men for the pressure on women to look beautiful but I think you may have a great point there.

On another note, Kung Fu Panda rocked - hubby and I took our son, 4, and we all loved it and wanted to see it again immediately. Jack Black was perfect.

  4. Kung Fu Panda sucked. If he’s going to make another bomb like that, then maybe he should join the B-list cast of NBC’s Celebrity Circus tommorow night if he wants some real training.

  5. Having been out here in LA for 10 years now, EVERYONE feels the need to be slimmer. There really is a pressure to be in shape.
That being said, Geroniomo is right, women are their own worst enemies. Unless someone completely balloons, ala Kirstie Alley, I rarely hear men going over womens weight etc. They are far more interested in her boobs than her dress size.

  6. I liked Kung Fu Panda a lot. The animation was stunning, and the story was fun. I end up going to a lot of kids’ movies and most of them are annoying and painful (ahem, Hannah Montana). I actually enjoyed this one. For a change.

  8. I think there is something sexy in Jack. Not sure what (besides his eyes). But I don’t think he would like good thin.
