Janet Jackson’s strange skirted pantsuit: too bizarre, or kind of cool?

Last night was the premiere of For Colored Girls, the Tyler Perry film based on the ground-breaking play. This is how Ms. Janet Jackson showed up – in this strange red and black pantsuit number that I have mixed feelings about. If I could see this as just the pants and the weird wrap top, I think I would have loved it. But with the added jacket and the strange skirt… it’s just too much. BUT – Janet still kind of rocks it. Hmpf. Anyway, Janet’s date last night was not her Qatari boyfriend Wissam al Mana! She took her nephew instead, although Janet did confirm that she and Wissam are still together, though not engaged:

Ignore the engagement rumors. Janet Jackson tells UsMagazine.com she isn’t getting hitched.

Asked Monday at the NYC premiere of her new drama, For Colored Girls, if her billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana popped the question, she laughed.

“No, no, no,” she told Us. “I’m not engaged.”

The two are heating up, however.

Since meeting last December at an event in the Middle East, they’ve been spotted a lot together lately.

The New York Post reports he even “whisked Janet off for a romantic break in Sardinia this summer and friends credit him with helping her cope with the death of her brother Michael.”

[From Us Weekly]

Even if they were engaged, I doubt we would know about it. Janet plays everything so tight, bless her heart. And while I don’t love the outfit, I will say that Janet is looking really good lately – I like her transition to dramatic actress, and her association with Tyler Perry. They seem to be genuinely tight, and this may be Janet’s year for an Oscar nomination. You never know.

Don’t like it at all, what’s the point?

  2. PrettyTarheel says:

Ms. Jackson should teach a class in Hollywood: “Instructing your plastic surgeon: How to know where to stop”. She looks phenomenal compared to most surgery victims (ahem, Nicole Kidman, I’m looking at you).

  3. Zelda says:

    She looks great.
    The skirt thing doesn’t.

  4. k says:

I disagree. She should have never cut up her nose. She was perfect pre-surgery.

  5. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Its kinda cool, its different but the fabrics are to contrasting and they are fighting each other. Looks like two different outfits.

  6. Lisa says:

She can do no wrong in my book. Ms. Jackson is always flawless and classy!

  7. Jen says:

    I like it.

  8. Xx says:

its ok. Not horrible but definetly too long!!

  9. Amanda says:

She looks a little rough here- harsh makeup, a little pulled, etc.

But, I saw her on GMA and the View yesterday and she looked stunning! Her hair was a little softer and she looked flawless. I don’t know how old she is, but there was like NO sign of age on her face. You can see some age on her neck in the above photo.

I do disagree with whoever said she told her plastic surgeon exactly the right time when to stop. I think she went just a bit too far. The nose is not natural looking at all- very pinched. Her lips and chin resemble Michael’s a bit much. However, I think when she presents a softer side of herself it, it works and she is beautiful.

She works it. It’s how a quasi princess/CEO from the Axalon Galaxy circa 2789 will dress.

  11. mel says:

She’s aging well but dont like skirt/pant thing.

  12. K-Burrrd says:

Trying to divert attention from her aging neck and chest…it’s called aging gracefully, Miss Jackson. Run & tell dat!

  13. guesty says:

    kinda like it…

  14. Jeri says:

She looks very good in the last picture but when she smiles her cheeks bulge out.

  15. original kate says:

it’s miss jackson, and she can wear whatever she wants. love her.

  16. bagladey says:

It was an experiment that didn’t work out: The skirt/train is too long, it’s the wrong fabric and it makes the outfit look contrived.

  17. karina says:

love the top/jacket combo (the colors/lines): v cutting edge, v chic! and it IS October so the jacket makes sense. the pant/skirt thing: HATE IT

  18. Jeannified says:

She looks FAB! LOVE the outfit! Handsome boyfriend, too! I hope they get married!

  19. masonwasp says:

I like the shirt under the jacket. Wish we could see more of it.

  20. Janine says:

The very short hair isn’t doing her any favors, she looks MUCH better with longer hair.

  21. Ron says:

    yikes!

  22. BReed says:

weird clothes, even weirder “Jackson-esque” facial surgery. Why can’t these people leave their freaking noses alone????

  23. Moore says:

I don’t hate it but I can’t figure out why I kind of like it.

  24. Hautie says:

    I love Janet’s hair short.

(Isn’t she like 43/44 yrs old)

I much rather see a great short hair-do than some tragic weave. I am so tired of all the fake hair on everyone.

Though she did have a little work done… her odd shaped mouth is natural. Her Mother has the same shape mouth.

Now one could not say the same for LaToya. haha! I suspect LaToya and Michael had the same procedures done by the same doctor.

  25. lrm says:

I didnt’ even bother to read your write up for the first time…I just saw the pics and excitedly am giving my two cents.(:
I LOVE her oufit, including and especially the skirt.
Love it. Love it. Love it.
It’s almost space age, but just shy of that so that it looks elegant, makes you stop and look, and you have to decide whether or not you like it.
At the same time, it’s not a confusing outfit, nor does it look like alot of ‘work’ for her to wear it. She looks comfortable.
It’s effortless, but somewhat confounding at the same time….That’s a very unusual combination!
Oh, and it’s also feminine and masculine in equal parts,IMO. Love it, and with the short hair, especially. I could not carry it off with that color scheme….however. but she can and does.
    He looks gay/vibe to me.
ps-It’s SUPPOSED to be ‘too long’, people. It’s for an event…the long part is what makes it flowier and emphasizes the skirt/pant, delineating the bottom from the contoured and defined top.

  26. Confuzzle says:

I think she pulls it off, and looks quite stylish. She’s doing something different, instead of the usual, predictable outfits. Me like. It’s like a train, or long coat.

  27. Isobel says:

She’s a beautiful woman–but shouldn’t wear a high collar like that. It’s not flattering to women with short necks.

When she hits a look just right, though, she is fab.

  28. roadrunner22 says:

She looks frozen, like a statue with all that heavy makeup! Yucky.
But her figure looks fantastic! She has put a lot of work into this!

  29. truthzbetta says:

Her style is always sketchy, I’ve never ever seen her sing live, but damn if I don’t love me some Janet.

    Miss Jackson is It.

  30. ABIOLA ADABIRI says:

Janet is someone ve always liked.me kinda like the outfit but know she can do much better.
    A

  31. Henriette says:

Don’t like the outfit at all but dig the fact that she refuses to play it safe. Some celebs pretend they take fashion chances (Gwyneth: ooh, look, I’m so daring bc I’m wearing orange/ tweed shorts 2 whole months before anyone else/ a leather bracelet with a formal dress) but Janet actually does and so fails sometimes/ often as a result. Good for her, I say.

  32. sauvage says:

    I actually like the outfit.

  33. telesma says:

I think it’s kind of bizarre, but I expect “interesting” wardrobe choices from pop stars, and especially Jacksons. It’s better than anything you’ll see LaToya in, though, and definitely heads and tails above Rihanna’s wardrobe choices.

  34. Spokes Niggre says:

you know she wants to take the spotlight, now that her brother is gone; look for her to trend weirder and weirder
