Ed McMahon may get financial help from Donald Trump, has a shopaholic wife

This story just goes to show that even if you’re rich, you can still have the same money problems as everyone else. Most of us assumed that former “Tonight Show” sidekick Ed McMahon was set for life, but when the news broke a couple of weeks ago that he was about to lose his house to foreclosure, it illustrated that the downward housing spiral was affecting people of all income levels. Now, it’s revealed that Ed is also a victim of the credit crunch- thanks to the spending habits of his wife, Pamela.

The one word that’s turning Ed McMahon from baller to beggar: Plastic.

Our sources tell us Pamela McMahon, Ed’s wife of 16 years, is literally spending him onto the street. We hear she’s completely “oblivious” to the late night legend’s cash troubles, and shops like their life depended on it. Her AmEx bill is legendary — the couple reportedly owes nearly $750K.

That’s causing an issue for Ed’s friends, who are conflicted about bailing him out. They don’t want to see their 85-year-old friend foreclosed on and homeless, but they also don’t want to encourage Pamela’s passion for Prada.

And to add insult to injury, now Donald Trump wants to exploit Ed’s sad situation for publicity. The blowhard famewhore has made a public “offer” to help the “Bloopers” star, but that’s news to Ed. Trump’s only reached out to the public — not the McMahons — as you think he might. A source close to Ed tells us the “people who are talking publicly aren’t necessarily the ones who are helping.” We hear there are others who “quietly” are trying to assist.

Ed’s rep denies Pamela’s spending is the reason for their troubles — the rep says she’s not “extravagant.”

Personally, I wouldn’t take a dime from Donald Trump. I’d sell everything I owned before accepting help from that jackass, because he’d never let you live it down. But then again, I’d also have a hard time lending money to someone with a $750,000 American Express bill. That’s almost a million bucks in purchases! What could she possibly be buying? Donald may be Ed’s only hope! If I were Ed, I would have quietly taken the AmEx and put it through a shredder years ago. He must have a hard time saying no.

Ed and Pamela McMahon are shown at the Cinema City International Film Festival on 9/29/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

He’s 85 years old. He may not be in a position to say “no”, particularly to a younger woman who may be his primary caregiver.

I knew there had to be some explanation as to why he has little money left….well there you go – his wife is having a great old time blowing it all. In the end, Ed will be gone and she’ll be broke – so who’s going to be sorry then?

How else is she going to find pleasure if she has to sleep with the crypt keeper!

Well, Missy, she chose the crypt keeper.

Sometimes I get very tired of the attitude that everyone over 40 is disgusting.

@ Syko- agreed. Thing is, they will hit that age then be the ‘crypt keepers’ themselves. That is, if they’re lucky enough to get to that age. Warped, indeed.

He chose her for her relative youth (he IS in his 80s) and she chose him maybe for the money.. but still it’s sad to see someone get taken advantage of like that. He needs to impose restrictions so this won;t happen again. I can see that easily happening with big purchases like jewelry. Ed needs to have a sit down with his woman! ha

If he’s broke she has to get all she can before he goes. I’d hardly say “oblivious”.

I don’t know why these old guys keep getting with these young chicks and are then surprised that the lady is there for the money. I guess they didn’t learn from Lou Rawles.

I saw the inside of the house on Realestalker. Whatever Pamela was buying with her AmEx, it wasn’t high-end furniture.

This story makes me sad. I knew there was more to it then first published. It just goes to prove a point, being famous and having bank isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when there are bottom feeders everywhere trying to suck on to you. Just take a look at Britney.

And thanks Syko for saying what was on the tip of my tongue!

They knew what it was when they collaborated on the marriage. He is obviously happy enough to stay with his shopaholic of a wife and she is happy taking eveything but the kitchen sink As for the haters, you people are too sensitive, it must be the frustration of plucking the greyhairs on your privates

Just as people in a community gather to help a needy family or cause, the actors, producers, directors and all other TV and movie industry people should gather to help Ed McMahon.

Drinking, credit card overuse — they should all say “There but for God go I”. If 1000 of them donated $1,000, they could save Ed’s home and pay on his debt.

We all are devoted to our favorite stars and shows. They should prove that they are as great as we think they are.

  16. Liz Gibson says:

Don’t blame his wife. I personally had experience trying to collect money from McMahon 30 years ago. My brother owned a limousine service that Ed McMahon used while in Miami. This was back when he was making lots of money. He never paid his bills back then, so it’s no wonder he is in this position. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for him.

Trump is good AT USING, ABUSING and destroying the common folk, but just look at his history when his businesses get into trouble. A billion dollar bankruptcy here and 500 million here and 100 M here and there-how do you think he survived all this time but still keeps enjoying his gold plated pads in the sky of NY? Why would anyone allow himself or herself to be subjected by such a bottom feeder-accepting a red cent from trump would be the last thing a person should ever do to be subjected to the trump use and abuse.
