Jamie Lynn Spears, 17, gave birth to a healthy baby girl on this morning at 9:30 am in Mississippi, reportedly by scheduled c-section due to the breech position of the baby.
People Magazine reports that the baby’s name is Maddie Briann, but there is no word yet what her last name will be or how much she weighed at birth. Spears is engaged to the baby’s father, 19 year-old Casey Aldridge.
Jamie and Casey have a new three bedroom home in Liberty, Mississippi on five acres of land. They recently purchased new furniture, including a four poster bed, a leather sofa and a canopy bed. The nursery for the new baby is designed in tones of pink, brown, and silver-green, and was outfitted the help of Jamie Lynn’s mother, Lynne.
There was a rumor that Jamie and Casey were going to name the baby with a combination of their two names, similar to Jamie Lynn, who is named after both parents. Maddie is an adorable name. According to the US Social Security administration, “Madison” was the fifth most popular baby girl’s name for 2007, so little Maddie may have some other playmates with the same nickname. “Maddie” is her name though, not Madison, and the Baby Name Wizard doesn’t have the name “Maddie” among the top 1,000 names for girls at any time.
Congratulations to Jamie Lynn and Casey, and best wishes to the new family.
Update: OK! Magazine, which has a contractual relationship with Jamie Lynn for details about her baby, says that Maddie was born naturally and not by c-section as was previously reported.

Good luck and Godspeed, little Maddie. You’re gonna need it.
-
all the best for the three of them. i know a good therapist, maddie.
-
Oy vey! What a life this child will lead. May I be dead and buried in the cold cold ground before they make a reality show out of it.
-
There will be a hootennanny in Louisiana tonight. BBQ, Milwaukee’s Best and GPC cigarettes for all!
-
Huh, well, I hope Maddie grows up to be semi-well adjusted
-
Poor child.. geez what is this world coming to? A 17 year old who has a baby. INSANE. They should be ashamed. Hope the baby doesnt become a redneck, poor thing
-
I wish them nothing but the best.
-
Just what we need : ANOTHER spawn dropped from that awful family; again, some people should NOT be breeders - esp. this group- kid will be smokin’ and drinkin’ out on the bayou in no time y’all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I wish there family all the best, people have to understand this family is in the spotlight all the time what would you do being caught on camera and pic taking all the time even to pick up a box of tampons? give them a break and stop hatin on them. They are people too themselves.
-
Congratulations to the family - glad to hear the baby is healthy
Maddie is cute, but surely it’s still only a nickname of Madeline? Brian is an interesting second name for a girl.
But so long as she’s healthy, that’s all that matters.
-
I think its pronounced Bri-ann not Brian
-
Does anyone else get the urge to call this child Maddie BRAIN? No? Just me?
-
Best of luck to Maddie, she’s going to need it.
-
(thanks Bodhi

It just looks like badly-spelt Brian to me - Brianne might be less confusing?
Mind you, I was full-sure she’d name the poor mite something like Jaisey or Casilynn. Now I like the name Brian, good strong Celtic name, name of a legendary King in Irish lore; and a would-be People’s Front of Judea Messiah!
-
I wish Maddie all the best. She is so gonna need it.
-
Jaisey! I seriously thought she’d give the kid wierd family name mash up too.I wonder when we’ll learn maddie’s last name…
-
Don’t speak too soon Bodhi, somebody on the other thread says that her brother is called Brian!
-
I heard it on the radio this morning as bree-anne.
-
Yeah, I hope “Maddie” is short for something. My dad’s family are a bunch of hillbillies–honest-to-God Kentucky moonshine makers!–and in my experience, only hillbillies will put shortened forms or nicknames on birth certificates. The Spears family always seemed more like rednecks than hillbillies to me (there IS a difference!).
-
Good luck to Jamie Lynne and Maddie. I wish them all the best. Regardless of what people may think of her family and having a baby young, she is now a mother and the child is innocent. I hope they are happy.

I think Jamie Lynn deserves some credit for taking responsibility for her actions. What could she have done to please everyone? If she’d gotten an abortion, she’d be criticized for that, too! I’m glad that she’s committing to raising her daughter in as normal an environment as possible. She obviously has a financial advantage over most teen moms, but it’s still going to be difficult for her. I’m not sure about the whole marriage thing, since this Casey guy doesn’t seem too enthusiastic (and let’s face it, he’s not footing the bills!). But I didn’t think Kevin Federline was going to be the “good guy” in a custody battle, either, so what do I know?

The new mother has been very low key throughout her pregnancy, handling everything very decently (or keeping it far away from the press, at least).
I wish her and her newborn girl a healthy and happy new life together.
I am hopeful, yes.
-
Congrats to her! No c-section, a normal name, a low-key pregnancy where she was photographed going to wal-mart and buying trashcans, not dancing naked on top of a bar. Finally!
-
I hope Jamie Lynn follows through on her commitment to her child. Best wishes to the new family.
-
Maddie’s a boy’s name! Hahahah!

Having a masculine name as a girl’s middle name is actually somewhat common in the South (case in point, well, ME– my middle name is my father’s and yes, I have brothers). If it *is* supposed to be a ‘feminization’ of Brian, I’d think the partial-girly spelling was actually the weird bit.

I’m happy for her i think that she going to be her own person and a good mother
Good luck jamie
-
I’m happy for her i think she going to be a great mother and i also think that she going to be her own person and not be like her older sister
godd luck
-
Best of luck, child (that’s directed to mother and baby). You’re gonna need it, both of you.
-
Best of luck to all of them.. You people say that it’s wrong for a 17 year old girl to have a baby but look at the fact’s!!!! About half of the world of teenage girl’s are having babies and end up on walfare and not being with the babies daddy.. Jamie Lynn has the father of her baby and love from her soon to be in laws and sister Britney.. Just because Britney is a fuck up don’t mean Jamie Lynn is.. I was 18 when I ended up pregnant with my son!!!!! Once again, Best of luck and Congrulations to Jamie Lynn and Casey!!!!

HOW MANY OF YOU HAD SEX WHEN YOU WERE 16?! IF YOU DID YOU HAVE NO PLACE TO JUDGE! IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO YOU. BIRTH CONTROL FAILS AND CONDOMS BREAK. It’s how you deal with it after that matters. The main problem with a teenage mother is no money, Jamie Lynn does not have that problem. You can grow up at any age. You just have to want to.

I TINK MADDYS A LUVLY NAME MY FRIEND CALLED HER DAUGHTER THAT CUZ ITS A MIXTURE BETWEEN MAMMY AND DADDY….
PS IM SHONA AND IM IRISH WOO! -
Baby Borrowers should be on every teen’s viewing list!
-
Wishing the best of luck for the new family. And to everyone that thinks a 17 year old shouldn’t have a baby because they are to young, well try looking at an 11 year old girl having a baby, because it has happened. Yes 17 is still to young, but its a heck of a lot better than an 11 year old having a baby.
-
What is Baby Borrowers? When is it on?
-
Hi, I am glad that you Jamie Lynn had your baby, but I am impressed because a beautiful 17 year old girl had things in a bed with her boyfriend, well who knows, maybe his father will give food to her daughter, that is the most important thing, and Jamie don’t let your boyfriend get away because hi has a baby to take care.
Bye.
-
i wish the family the best of luck but i dont think it was vary smart 2 say “it’s the best thing in the world 2 have a baby” at that age with all of her pre-teen and teen age fans that look up 2 her.and maddie is a very cute baby and jamie lynn is very beautiful
