When a person develops a physical dependency to any opiate, the side effects become different than those that would be present for an occasional user or someone who is taking a prescription painkiller for a short period of time. Maybe your kids were using something along with heroin...alcohol, a stimulant of some sort, etc? There are common side effects and clues to opiate abuse but those you listed are not really on the list of common signs. I have to tell you a story that you won't believe...About 1 year ago I had a customer, (I own a business about 30 miles north of L.A.)who came in to my business, and his wife runs a methodone clinic here in our community. We got to talking about addiction and her,(his wife's) business, and how busy she was. He told me that Angelina was a regular patient there. This is before she announced she was pregnant with her twins, (just rumors of her pregnancy)...She also at the time, was living in Malibu with her family. I remember seeing paparazzi swarming her home. You can easliy get to our community in about 45 minutes from Malibu, as my husband and I take day trips to Malibu. He said that she was addicted to vicodine and was being treated with methodone. He also informed me that they had ton's of celebrities, and well known people that use this clinic, as it is far enough away from the prying eyes of "Hollywood", I was shocked when he told me this...(she was rumored to be pregnant)and he said he had seen her in the clinic several times! I had seen several interviews with Angelina over the years and had always thought she looked like she was addicted to opiates. Both of my grown children have been addicted to Heroin and I know the signs, (dialtion of pupils, slow and jerky body movements), also the same way that Heath Ledger looked in several of his interviews. I would never judge Ms. Jolie, but I can tell you that you NEVER completely get off the drugs, and she is the perfect example of an addictive personality,enveloping herself with children allows her to live in a world of self denial. We will come to find out in years to come that she has had a drug addiction. The only thing I can say is, this doesn't mean that she is a bad person, she was and is a product of Hollywood, and our society. I hope that God blesses her with help, and her children give her hope. Dr. Drew is and has been an addiction medicine specialist for years now, treats addicts everyday of his life and has devoted his life to treating addiction. He knows when someone is truly sober or not, not because he's some know-it-all shrink, because he has great experience in the field and he has seem thousands of cases of addiction. Do you honestly think that an expert, in ANY field, cannot make a generalization? After seeing and treating thousands of addicts, don't you think you could make an educated statement on someone's recovery? There is nobody's opinion I would want to hear more than Dr. Drew's on the subject of addiction. Recovery is an ongoing, lifelong process. It is not some affliction that can be cured over a couple of weeks. I believe that's all Drew was trying to say and to have this article attack and misinterpret his words is simply wrong. I'm not here to speak for Drew, but he does not mean that no one can ever be clean from heroin. He treats addicts, many of whom have been recovering addicts for years now. Of course he knows that you can be clean off heroin, he is an addiction specialist. Right now there is severe flooding in the midwest, I have not seen her or Brad or come to think of it, anyone from Hollywood helping them. Just us normal folk. She just has a great pr. There's a bit of an inconsistency with her being such a martyr and you feeling so sorry for her position and then in the next breath you people glamorizing her.
