Did Katie Holmes send Nicole Kidman a baby gift?

If you’re the new wife of a guy who unceremoniously dumped his old wife on the eve of their 10th wedding anniversary while she was pregnant with his kid, and that dumping contributed to her miscarriage, what do you do when you find out that the old wife is now pregnant with her new husband’s kid? Well, if you’re Katie Holmes, you send the old wife a pricey baby gift. Because nothing says “Congrats on the baby you’ve always wanted that my husband refused to give you” quite like a high-end present from Neiman Marcus.

Katie Holmes is making nice with mom-to-be Nicole Kidman by giving her baby gifts!

Katie shipped hubby Tom Cruise’s eight-months-pregnant ex-wife a deluxe gift basket filled with onesies, stuffed toys, a baby blanket and more from Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, an insider tells Star.

“Katie wanted the best of everything in the basket,” the insider says. “It cost over $2,000.”

As we told you earlier this week, Nicole gave a new interview to Vogue in which she talks about finding love again with hubby Keith Urban, being pregnant with her first biological child and the photo that made her cry.

I don’t know how I’d feel about this if I were Nicole. On one hand, Katie had nothing to do with her split from Tommy Boy. On the other, this is the woman who has pretty much stepped in and become a de facto parent to her adopted children with Cruise–you know, the ones we never see because they’re in some creepy Scientology school. But for all we know, Nicole and Keith Urban and Tom and Katie are all one big happy family who wish each other the best and all see the same plastic surgeon.

LOL, MSat. “Congrats on the baby you’ve always wanted that my husband refused to give you” … or perhaps Katie could give Nic a “Congrats on gracefully leaving a marriage to a man who’s a crazy maybe-gaybe, hey how can I do that?” present.

  3. LOL Plastic surgeon.

Hey, I think Nicole gave them a present for the wedding. Move on, they did. Besides Katie married Tom years later. Nicole is happy with her new love. No one is crying surely.

  4. Last year, I received an invitation to my ex’s wedding when he married the girl he was cheating with while we were together. She included a note with an apology, and seemed sincere, so I actually thought it was mature of her. Hopefully, that’s Katie’s motive, too.

  5. Nicole Kidman is Katie’s step-children’s mother. They have a connection to each other.

I think it was the appropriate thing to do under the circumstances.

  6. Right, I don’t think anyone is crying anymore. Nicole re-married, Tom re-married. Everyone is happy now.

  9. My stepmom always tried to be friends with my real mom. It was so awkward and weird.

  10. I think it was a good diplomatic move on Katie’s part. She’s not the one keeping Nicole’s kids from seeing their mom–that is ALL Tom, I’m sure. I kinda wonder if she had to go behind his back to do this, because if I remember correctly, ex-Scientologists are supposed to be shunned. If that’s the case, hooray for Katie’s rebellion!

  11. I think it was a good move on Katie’s part. She’s the step-parent to Tom and Nicole’s adopted children, and obviously the two (Nic and Kate) are going to be part of each other’s lives forever due to the children, so it was mature and polite and probably well received by Nicole.

  16. A $2000. dollar baby basket from Needless Markup?
Please, first thats about a third of what Kate blows on a cheap handbag, (a 10th of the Birkin), so I have to think this story is not true. Also, how totally unoriginal would having a dept. store assemble a gift basket be?
As vacant as Katie comes off could she really be this vacuous? Calling this one a total fabrication.

  17. I don’t think that celebrities always blow the large amounts of money that we think they do.

Many celebrities are quite frugal, you’d be surprised.

  20. Nicole got the better deal out of this. NOT being Tom Cruise’s wife. The gift is appropriate…. they have the adopted children of Tom and Nicole and isnt that relationship already strained between Nicole and the kids? So I think its right. Hey man, Cosmo says its the right thing to do!

  25. I think that Tom and “Kate” are weird. HE is a freak and she looks like some zombie. Ugly. Believe me her looks will fade - if she ever had any. Nicole deserves Keith. They make a great couple. But Tom and Katie what a joke.
