Anne Hathaway on the Elle UK December cover: fierce or hot mess?

elleuk1

Anne Hathaway is the cover girl for the Elle UK December cover. The dress is Balmain, and it costs $35,000. Do you like it? You better, because it’s made it’s way onto something like a dozen international fashion magazine covers already. The dress has more hype than Anne, which is unfortunate, because Anne looks amazing on these covers, and she’s wearing the hell out of this dress. Her makeup is stunning too. Love it.

Anyway, Elle hasn’t released anything from their cover interview, but I suspect Anne doesn’t say anything groundbreaking. Since her boyfriend went to prison, it’s not like Anne has been some darling of the tabloids. She keeps to herself and doesn’t cause a lot of drama, from what I see. It makes her a good person and a boring celebrity. I did find this interview with her, though – Anne talking about how she’d like to finish college:

Anne Hathaway has revealed that she was would love to return to college at some stage in the future. The Love And Other Drugs actress told Jay Leno that she had completed two years of college and was eager on resuming her studies.

“I finished two years and I’m hoping that I get back,” she said. “The last time that I went to college was between Brokeback Mountain and The Devil Wears Prada so I’ve been busy since then, which is nice!”

She continued to reveal that she is currently preparing for her ten-year high-school reunion, to which Leno joked that she should bring the new issue of Vogue which features her on the cover.

“The timing has worked out pretty much in my favour, hasn’t it?!” laughed Hathaway.

“I was so invisible in high school,” she continued. “I don’t think I was unpopular because I don’t think I registered enough to matter. I was really interested in the arts and that was kind of my passion so if anybody knew who I was that was what they knew me for.”

“It will be nice to go back,” she added. “I’m curious to see how everybody is doing.”

[From Digital Spy]

I’m glad Anne isn’t pulling out the old “everyone hated me, I was such a loser” trope that literally EVERY celebrity uses these days, even when you find out that they were elected class president and they were the head cheerleader and prom queen. I buy that Anne was probably not hated or bullied, she was probably just there. And it would be kind of cool if she went back to college. I wish more celebrities would take time off and put the focus on their education.

    great cover:she’s sexy

  2. Maud says:

A gold dress is a gold dress, whether you get it from Balmain or Forever 21. To her credit she wears it as well as it can be worn.

  3. Lisa says:

Meh, not a hot mess but not fierce. She’s annoying and boring to be honest.

  4. Rachael says:

    She looks great.

  5. daisy424 says:

    Fabulous.
    I want that dress…..

  6. Cruisin Through says:

Looks great in the dress. Hate the hair and that awful blue eye shadow.

  7. bellaluna says:

Hate the dress. So very glad my style is dictated by what I like to wear, not what fashion says I should like.

  8. Hautie says:

It looks like a dress that Krystal Carrington would have wore the hell out of in 1985. hahaha! Those shoulder pads are just a tad dominant.

With that being said… is it made out of stretchy material? I peeked at the other magazine covers using the dress and the size of the girls wearing this gold dress… are kinda of drastic.

The original girl on the run way wearing it… is just flat out skinny. And it looked made to fit for her.

Then there is Cindy Crawford in it and she had to be a good 3 sizes bigger than the girl on the run way…

  9. brin says:

    FIERCE!!!!

  10. Gwen says:

I think she looks best on the newsstand cover 🙂

  11. devilgirl says:

    I think she looks great.

  12. toto says:

ilike te second picture but the second one the profile face does not look like her at all

  13. susanne says:

    Fabulous. Amazing eyes.

I never want to see her in anything prissy again!!!

She should only wear metallics and animal prints from now on.

  14. Samigirl says:

This dress would be FAB if it weren’t for those RIDICULOUS shoulder pads. And I hate how she is thrusting her chin up in the air.

  15. Rachel says:

Totally Fierce! You’d have to be to pull off that dress. I love her makeup as well.

  16. Marjalane says:

I think it’s a dress that photographs well with some “shopping”, but would probably look kind of skimpy and cheap on a walking around person.

(a walking around person? bring on the coffee!)

  17. melissa says:

Eh, she’s just not that pretty to me. Her features may be to large on her face, can’t put my finger on it.

  18. serena says:

    She’s startin’ to get interesting.
    Cool pose and pics.

  19. nona says:

She is beautiful and that dress really suits her but, what’s the deal with her neck? Is she suffering a contracture or something?

  20. munchies says:

i thought it was Penelope Cruz. she totally looks different with this make up as often i saw her in red lipstick.

  21. dread pirate cuervo says:

Fierce! I imagine there are a crazy hot pair of shoes that go along with this.

  22. roguesiren says:

    STUNNING!

  23. guesty says:

fab on the dress, hair & make-up. she’s bringing it in these pics.

  24. anti says:

    i WANT that dress!

  25. Nanea says:

    Fierce!

Even the shoulder pads, the just give this shoot the right amount of over the top.

I like Anne and sometimes wish she had a much better stylist and make-up person.

  26. Hollowdoll says:

She looks incredible. She’s one of my favorite actresses.

  27. Tess says:

I’ve never seen her look better. If I were her, I’d drop that immaculate, classic look she usually goes for in favor of this edgier one. Way more mysterious and adult on her.

  28. Raven says:

That is amazing. That same dress makes some look trashy and the others look amazing. Hathaway looks great and so does Cindy Crawford. The runway model and one of the others look really bad.

  29. Manda3 says:

The second picture is my winner. I think the dress looks better from the side. She is always beautiful though.

  30. Sally G says:

Just to balance things out, I think she is talented and beautiful, and looks great in these pictures. When I read some of the comments here I think there are a lot of miserable people in this world.

  31. LT says:

I can’t tell if I love or hate the dress…I think the shoulder pads are throwing me off in the first pic but it looks fabulous in the 2nd.

    Anne looks great though.

  32. Merry says:

I know she’s probably a good, smart, classy girl, but she annoyes the hell out of me! *shrugs*

  33. danielle says:

    Beautiful!

  34. lucy2 says:

    She looks good!
I think the dress is interesting to photograph, but as something to actually wear out in public…not so much.

  35. Kazoo81 says:

i always prefer models on the cover of fashion magazines as opposed to actresses, singers, etc. but if it’s a non-model, i’d prefer it to be someone like anne, who looks like a model.

and i agree, she should go for this edgy look more often. she can totally pull it off.

  36. Camille says:

She is a much, much, much better model than Jessica MISERalba. She looks gorgeous in those shots.

  37. Lauren says:

I love her face here. She looks good. The dress? Not so much. Too Dynasty for me.

  38. Jeri says:

Education really seems to make a difference. I don’t think it has much to do with “book smarts” but more to do with teaching you how to get along in the world. Having a chance to interact with others of different backgrounds and experiences and realize hey, it’s not all about me.

Look at Paris H, Britney, Lohan, etc. These are all ones that were allowed to drop out and/or do the absolute minimal learning on a set or “home schooled.”

This is just something I think about sometimes and it may be totally wrong.

  39. Lauri says:

Is it just me, or isn’t it odd that she’s wearing a $35K on the cover of a magazine that says “Style for Less?”

I don’t really like her much, but these pictures look really good.

  40. Bobby the K says:

I don’t find the chest exposure sexy, more like it wants to be but isn’t.

Her right shoulder looks like an ottoman my aunt had and I’m tempted to put my feet up.

When with the fad of a ton of dark make up around the eyes be over?

She looks kind of stuck up, either that or she has a runny nose.

  41. Kricket says:

2nd cover is AMAZING! but she kinda bores me.

  42. Anti-icon says:

Anne looks stunning in the *gulp/spit* $35,000 dress….wtf on that?

OK, I don’t really think she’ll go to her high school reunion. Can we get an investigative reporter up in the house?

I do think she’s generally honest. And a good actress.

  43. Ruffian9 says:

That second shot is to f***ing die for. Off the charts gorgeous.

I’d buy that picture & frame it.

  44. la chica says:

    meh

  45. dovesgate says:

I don’t care for the dress (the sleeves kill it for me) but Anne’s a gorgeous girl. Love her!

  46. Newbie says:

I’ve got brown eyes like hers (which I generally hate. Brown eyes sometimes seem so boring unless you’re an exotic latino or what not), and she looks GREAT with the bed-head and the smoky eyes. I’m going to try it when I go out tonight. And yeah, she does seem boring. But like Kaiser points out, she’s probably a nice person. And that’s more important, anyway. Her acting is getting better and better, and if she wants to be a straight-up actor instead of a tabloid queen, that’s fine with me. I’d sure hate to see Meryl Streep on the cover of In Touch because she’s supposedly some kind of whore. Thank heaven for real method actors.

  47. mary simon says:

    she’s gorgeous.
