Ice T Says Soulja Boy killed Hip Hop; Soulja Boy says Ice-T is old and washed up

Ice-T, 49, gave an interview to DJ Cisco from Chicago in which he disses young rapper Soulja Boy. The quotes below from Ice-T are on the Urban Legend Mixtape, which is available now. Hip Hop pioneer Ice-T says 17 year-old Soulja Boy’s song “Superman” is “garbage,” and he tells the young singer to “eat a dick.” Soulja Boy responded to Ice T with a message on You Tube. He basically says Ice T is old, that there’s no reason to diss him because he’s a success story, and that no one wants to hear Ice-T rap anymore anyway:

“F*$@ Soulja Boy! Eat a dick! This nigga single handedly killed Hip Hop.”

Those are the words of Gangsta Rap veteran, Ice-T, who appears on DJ Cisco’s Urban Legend mixtape with a few choice words about Soulja Boy.

“That shit is such garbage man,” Ice-T continues to snarl. “We came all the way from Rakim, we came all the way from Das EFX, we came all the way from motherf&#$ers flowing like Big Daddy Kane and Ice Cube, and you come with that Superman shit? That shit is garbage.”

Apparently, Soulja Boy isn’t the only one in Ice-T’s sights. The rapper had a few things to say about another young rapper.

“Hurricane (Chris) take them f’ing beads out of your hair nigga! Man up. You niggas is making me feel real f’ing mad about this sh*t.”

[From HipHopDX.com]

Here are Ice T’s comments about Soulja Boy noted above. This video contains NSFW language:

Ice T- “You single handedly killed hip hop. That sh*t is such garbage.”

And here’s Soulja Boy’s response. It has plenty of NSFW language too, and if you can’t listen there’s a partial transcript below. It looks crass when you read it, but if you have the time to watch it’s actually pretty funny.

“This nigga Ice-T old as f’ck. This nigga old enough to be my great grandfather….

How you gonna make a song called ‘F’ck the police?’ 35 years later your ass playing the police on TV…

I’ll let you fight my granddad. He’ll knock your ass out. You were born before the Internet was created. How the f’ck did you even find me?

‘Superman’ that was last year… get with the times you old ass.”

Then Soulja Boy gets serious and says “I respect everybody who started this. Who opened the doors for young artists like me to get into the hip hop industry… I respect everybody to the utmost. I don’t want to disrespect nobody… I know Ice-T is an old ass nigga, I know he’s a legend in the game, he’s a veteran and all that, but nigga you tell me ‘eat a dick’ and I hear that on the radio…

You rich as f’ck. Quit… why you still rapping? The game has changed, there’s new niggas out. Ain’t no one want to hear that old sh*t no more. There’s people who still want to hear it. They just ain’t dead yet.”

[Gets serious] “Mr. Ice T. You must understand. Shit is different. When you was born, niggas was still driving in wood cars. Walmart wasn’t made yet. There wasn’t no Internet. There wasn’t no video cameras to record this to diss your old ass on… Stop with that bullshit man.”

Soulja Boy says he wasn’t born rich and “this time last year, I was living in the ghetto. I’m 17 years old. I worked hard for this shit. If it was all of this… off one song. You should be congratulating… That’s what you should be saying instead of ‘eat a dick.’ Do you know how many niggas in the hood now wishing they were in my position? Wishing they were in your position?”

Soulja Boy really missed an opportunity to rip on Ice T’s slutty wife, Coco, but at least he stayed on point.

And here’s Ice-T’s response to Soulja Boy’s response to him. He apologizes for telling Soulja Boy to “eat a dick” and says “a brother of my caliber shouldn’t be talking down on a youngster your age. But as far as your music goes, it’s garbage. This ain’t no old school, new school, east coast west coast thing.” Ice T goes on to name new artists he likes who he says works hard in the industry. He says Soulja Boy shouldn’t have responded to his diss, because he can only hurt his new career while he’s more established and has nothing to lose.

Soulja Boy has a point. There was no reason for Ice T to diss him, but then Ice T is right and Soulja Boy’s music isn’t that great. I never got the appeal of that “Superman” song, it seemed kind of primitive to me and I didn’t understand why it caught on like it did. I’m old, though, so what do I know? The Internet wasn’t invented yet when I was born, either.

Here’s Ice T doing “Original Gangster,” which came out in 1991.

And here’s that “Superman” song from Soulja Boy that we’ve all heard too many times. It’s been viewed 19 million times on YouTube and is most likely a one hit wonder.

Living in the ghetto, Soulja? HORSESH*T. If that were true you’d be dead or in jail instead of making records. Poor thing, I bet the American Eagle outlet down the road ran out of khakis twice a week, he had it so rough. 🙄

So sick of these jerks and their phony tough boy persona.

Is that girl next to Ice smuggling two bald heads in her tube top or what?

  2. Because I say So says:

Why is any of this relevant? I want to hear about the feud between Yung Buck & 50 Cent. Now, that’s some quality entertainment!

  3. anon says:

    Good one!

“the internal combustion engine wasn’t even invented when i was born”

  4. Banana Boat says:

It’ terrible but I laughed really hard at that kid who kept blathering about “old-ass nigga” and his two minions snickering behind him. One of them kept trying to show off his ugly giant metal pendant necklace thing that looked like something from those grocery store machines you get from putting in a quarter and moving the hook to grab something from a pile off toys. Yeah ok.

This is funny only because it’s so stupid. Watch – we find out they conspired to do this to generate publicity.

  5. Izzy says:

I hate this song with a bloody passion. I can understand hardly any of Soulja Boy’s lyrics when the songs are on the radio, and the lyrics that I can understand make me feel like I’m losing IQ points by listening. 😕

Soulja Boy isn’t poetry. Soulja Boy is crude and crass, and that’s it.

  6. Curly Fry says:

    Hmmm…can they both be right?

Ice-T, I love you on L&O SVU. However, quit saying that you “invented” gangsta rap. As far as rapping goes, you are no longer relevent, so please feel free to stop thinking people care about your opinion.

Soulja Boy, for the love of all that is holy, please be a one hit wonder. Your “rap” is like nails on a chalk board, and for some of us born before the internet but listened to Tribe, Beastie Boys, and Tupac…we do not consider you to be in the same galaxy as those rappers with talent. You may quietly slink into pop status obscurity…please do this post haste.

  7. I choose me says:

😀 😆 what curly fry said.

  8. Danielle says:

I don’t even want to know what “Superman that ho” means. Probably derogatory as is disrespecting your elders.

But I guess you can’t be old and wise without first being young and stupid, in Soulja’s case, VERY stupid.

  9. karla says:

But the King is Tupac Shakur! 😀
    R.I.P.

  10. Danny says:

Didn’t NWA do “F*ck The Police”? Thats Ice Cube… not Ice-T. Ice-T did “Cop Killer”

  11. j says:

The reason why that song is garbage has nothing to do with hip hop or age. It has to do with the fact that the song is extremely sexist and demeaning. Here’s tha definition in case anyone was wondering.

Superman that ho: Verb. The act of ejaculating on your sexual partner’s back and then stick the sheets to her; when she wakes up in the morning she has a cape.

  12. Izzy says:

I love how he mentions WalMart like it’s actually relevant. 😕

  13. MaiGirl says:

Wow, j. I sincerely thank you for the explanation…I had no idea. I am so glad I am old as f’ck, because I can’t handle stuff like this. Why can’t we all smoke weed and get along like we did in the ’90’s?

And honestly, considering what a no self-respect havin’ skank CoCo is, and how Ice talks about her, it seems as though both of these gentlemen have about the same level of respect for women–none!

  14. Kevin says:

You can’t discuss NWA without ,,,,yyeeeeeaahhh!!!! boy!!!!! My boy Flava flav. Playa extraordinaire. HE put de teefes in gold teefes.

  15. Celebitchy says:

@j – I consider myself enlightened, thank you. I hope no one’s ever done that to me. 😆

  16. Mairead says:

ok – I know i’m old and the internal combustion engine wasn’t even invented when i was born… but seriously, the bloke in the middle – are they really long shorts are comically short tracksuit-bottoms?

And what damn fool told him they looked good? 😕

  17. Cletus says:

Ice-T WAS wrong for that…. he is supposed to be a grown-ass man. What possible purpose could there be in calling out a seventeen year old child? That’s just ugly. I don’t have to be a fan of Soulja Boy to agree with him that Ice-T was out of line. Eat a dick, indeed.

  18. G. says:

SOulja Boy did kill whatever was left of hip hop. The real king of gangsta rap isn’t you though Ice-T, it’s Tupac!

  19. MISSY says:

Ice T’s opinion is his opinion and he should have kept it to himself, Thanks for teaching the youngsters how to act Ice. If the boy is blessed with 15 minutes of fame, let him and everyone else enjoy it. Its better the pimp,n ho’s with a side of gangster you been sellin for the past twenty or so years. Your a Killjoy

  20. Joe says:

superman was last year, get with the times.

so basically he’s admitting he made a fad song.

Apparently, Soulja boy has never been to Newark.

(did he just quote Jerry Maguire?)

  21. Silly Lilly says:

Ya know what this is? This hahaha…is RAP’s version of DISCO. Remember when Rock music was without machinery? And then…. Abba, BeeGees, etc, etc, and now RAP…has this. Its a money maker.

And Ice T had LOTS of socially irrelevant music about abuse and hatred so he needs a grip. It cannot be the content of the song he is complaining about.

It has to be the SOUND… and that is their penance. Hahahhahahaah. If All the PIONEERS of rock had to put up with the emergence of nonsensical DISCO…

Then its about time that RAP has the same penance!

  22. poeboy says:

Why can’t you mention NWA without Flav? Flava Flav wasn’t in NWA. He was in Public Enemy. Ice-T was in Body Count when he released “Cop Killer,” and he’s right. Soulja Boy, and pretty much all the rap/hip hop you hear on the radio these days, is garbage.

  23. Young Alex says:

MANE YO SOULJA BOY HAS A POINT, ICE-T SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF FOR SPEAKING LIKE THAT TO A YOUNG TEENAGER TRYIN TO DO SOMETHING WITH HIS LIFE, AT LEAST HE DIDNT DROP OUT OF SCHOOL! IM 17 YEARS OLD MYSELF, AND AS A AFRICAN AMERICANS, WE SHOULDNT BE DOWNIN EACH OTHER BECAUSE NOW IS THE TIME FOR EVERYONE TO STICK TOGETHER, LIKE THA SAYIN IS..DONT HATE, APPRECIATE!..HE SHOULD BE APPRECIATIVE THAT WE HAVE SUCH A YOUNG RAPPER WHO IS INVOLVED WITH OTHERS IN HIS COMMUNITY AND GIVIN THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS HOPE TO DO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. SOULJA BOY HAS MY RESPECT NOT ONLY BECAUSE HE IS FROM MISSISSIPPI LIKE ME, BUT BECAUSE HE MADE IT, I WENT TO HIS UNDERGROUND SHOWS, PERFORMANCES AT SKATIN RINKS AND EVERYTHING, I HAVE NO REASON TO HATE ON HIM, HE DOING SOMETHING SO ONE HE CAN SAY I GOT A CHANCE TO DO THIS. SO ICE-T MAN, IF YOU READ THIS, YOU OWE HIM AN APOLOGY, DONT BE A HATER BECAUSE HE IS GETTIN A BETTER SPOTLIGHT THAN YOU ARE!!

  24. G. says:

@Young Alex: I don’t think he’s mad at Souja Boy over press time. i think he hates Souja Boy because he makes crappy songs. Which Souja Boy does.

  25. Savage life says:

Yo Big ups to Soulja boy for doing his thing. Ice T is too old to be on here dissing a lil 17 year old first and for most. Second he is caked up so he needs to leave the music industry alone and let the new artist have their time to shine. I give props to soulja boy for changing the game because Superman was played by; old, young, black, white, asian, poor people, rich people and etc it was a dance song get over it. We had Barack Obama doing the soulja boy, i mean come on hes running to be the next president, it was that big. Thanks to the new rap, we dont have all that murder and violent type music as we had back in the days. Body counters, i mean seriously were all downing soulja boy, but we should be happy that the music is changing for the best. We have children singing and learning how to do the soulja boy, instead of having them learning killing and fighting lyrics that they would have be doing if ice t, nwa and other past rappers have still been rapping. Come on yall its not that hard, nothing can stay the same for ever. There has to be change some where and thankfully were starting with the music industry which is what our children live up to. Maybe its just me, but i would rather my child learn the lyrics to superman and dance to the lyrics than to hear something about killing cops, robbing people and fighting and then being influence to go out and do what they hear on those hardcore rap songs. So again big ups to soulja boy and all the other new rappers that are for change. Ice T retire and enjoy the good life with your slutty wife. He should be ashame for saying something like that and have a child thats only 1 year younger than soulja boy, what if that was he kid some grown old ass man said that about, he would have been mad also and ready to get back at him. and for the records ice t your son sounds like hes eating and sucking dick, becuase he sounds mad fem!!! !!!

  26. j says:

@ Celebitchy & MaiGirl – you’re welcome, I’m always happy to shed some light 💡

  27. Mairead says:

    Waaaa mine eyes!!! 😯

Silly Lilly – at the risk of being a pain, but I think your musical metaphors are kinda mixed up. They might share an original root, but Rock and Disco were quite distinctive movements -and disco didn’t fully replace rock even during disco’s heyday. It’s like saying Indie is Soul music’s “disco”

Possibly a better analogy is 80s hair-metal bands or worse Nu-metal to 70s rock and metal? *blergh*

But um. Yeah. Thanks for the explaination j. That was, um, enlightening. 😐

  28. Kevin says:

Shout out to Poeboy, My bad. You’re right. My little clock wearing, silly costume shining, Bridgette Nielson banging homeboy was in PE. Been so long ago I get them mixed up sometimes.

  29. vdantev says:

    Yo?
    YO??
    Big UPS??
    Fem???

English motherf***ers, do you speak it ? 👿

  30. sallysitwell says:

Tutuola! Calm yourself, Detective, or I will have to have you removed from the squad room and put on suspension for your behavior. The 1-6 has been getting a little too much attention from IAB lately and reports like this will only make things worse.

  31. ff says:

They both need to step off.

The type or quality of music a person makes is about them as a person not a representation of the genre at large – but how they interpret that genre. You can’t dictate how artists express their art. (And the same goes for film directors.)

I’m pretty sure people back in the day thought Ice T’s stuff was of questionable quality. Hell, I’m sure there are actors who find his interpretation of the craft questionable. It doesn’t matter.

You might wish that some stuff wouldn’t sell but that’s it. It’s ultimately the public’s choice what are you going to do chew everyone out?

Soulja Boy has a point, is it his fault he does really lame stuff and it sells? He might mature as an artist (one would hope) in the future, who knows?

That said Ice T and lots of other artists did contribute a lot to the form. It’s true.

The thing is forms change over time and just because something is a success now doesn’t mean a particular kind of music got killed.

Ice T should have a little faith in the genre because frankly, if it’s that easy for Soulja Boy to kill off – and with Superman? Please, I don’t think so – then maybe it was about time it shuffled off it’s mortal coil.

Plus, wtf? Just because a black dude standing in front of an urban background is spitting doesn’t necessarily make it hip hop. I personally put Superman in the daft but enjoyable if you switch off your brain category, and move on with my life.

Enough with the stupid hostility it makes them both look like dumbasses.

  32. ice, you know i usually don’t get involved. but i’ve been listening to the radio all week long. there’s nothing wrong with soulja boy’s take on superman. i’m all right with it.

what’s important to me right now is hiliary and obama, we’ve got to make a little more history.

  33. DownSouth says:

The Ice is 100% right. Music today for the most part is pure trash and talentless mind-numbing blather. Be it from rap to that emo crap to wanna be rock and inbetween. This kind of reminds me of ICP in many ways except i give them more credit then this superman reject…atleast ICP is/was creative and funny as hell..this superman chump is just boaring, lame and for the most part non-understandable in most everything he does. ICE T! you the man for speaking out on todays B.S on the air waves. It is just to bad the kids of today minds are as warped as the air waves for tv and music. It is a different time today, way different..and its just sad.

  34. Ice T need to shut up and sit his ancient down somewhere! He just trying to think of some way to help sell some of his lame records. Just like Soulja Boy said, if you think he killed hip hop, try to revive it.

O yea and one more thing Ice-T is Playing a Cop the way a cop should be and its SVU he playing a cop the way a cop should be a good cop he just hate bad ass cops who dont gave a fuck about anyone

  39. what it is says:

ok…this is my opinion…Ice T 49 and Soulja Boy 17…ok, now as grown as Ice T is he should not down a 17 year old for his area of success and please believe hip hop was killed way before soulja boy…back when they were considering hip hop to be hip hop it was all about B***hes and H**s and F*** the police and so on…you had rappers who was all about the fight on life struggles…and now you have a 17 year old who grasp the attention of a younger crowd, I don’t like superman because I am grown and no one over 20 should not be doing this dance anyway this is for young kids and it helped most kids are not listen to that gansta rap music because no child should not be listening to that type music anyway. Of course if you were born in the Ice-T age or gansta rap you are going to call soulja boy music garbage but Ice-T have to realize that music was geared towards a younger crowd and Ice-T should have came to Soulja Boy with advice and lift him up Hell if I am not mistaken when 50 was hosting rap city he even gave soulja boy advice and told him to keep doing his thing. Come on Ice-T you knew better…also I understood where Soulja boy was coming from but at the same time soulja boy need not to respond to Ice-T to show that he did not need to entertain stupid comments.

  40. Courtney says:

I think dat all of dis is bullshit. Ice T shouldnt be dissn Soulja Boy. Ice t old as f*ck and he dont kno wut he talkin bout.he needs to act like a grown man. and he doesnt kno wut real hip hop is. 41. G. says:

Wow, i feel horrible because this is for my age group. I like Ice-T and tupac, not Souja I-Can’t-use-english-and-I’m-Too-Stupid-To-Finish-HighSchool-Boy. Seriously people, how is this qualified as music? I WANT GOOD RAP BACK!

  43. ➡ ➡ speak on dat get at me b lookin forward 4 som more ➡ 💡

  44. Ice-T is good, be he also doesn’t have that great hip hop that this generation needs. Soulja Boy is absolutely terrible, I watched white seniors in a suburban neighborhood doing “the superman”. Whatever though right, as Ice-T says, make your money man. I doubt soulja boy will ever come out with another song with that kind of popularity.

  45. UFLX TV says:

hahaha, I shouldnt laugh because Ice T is a OG in the game but he shouldnt of made that video in the first place. Soulja Boy is a young dude & I think Ice T seems a bit bitter a kid is raking all that ringtone money in!

  46. Mr Gee says:

Ice is right hip hop is dead and that’s because of punks like soulja boy, hurricane and the likes including kanye west, lil wayne, T pain and Jay-Z (yeah right Jay-Z, someone who now thinks he is the Lord). these punks finished what was left of it and don’t care as long as they make money of it.

These days hip hop is about how much and what they have.

I believe the initial and still the purpose of hip hop is for black survival and expression, although the struggle has changed there’s still a lot we need to teach each other with regard to the current times. Not this whole bullshit we listen to lately.

I still have Pac’s, Ice cube, Dead prez and the rest albums, which are 12 years or more and still enjoy listen to them, Now tell if you can listen to todays hip hop 12 years later? See my point?

  47. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
