I'm a light sleeper and I find it difficult to get to sleep when there is someone else tossing and turning and etc. Although we do sleep in the same bed on the weekends. Also, we both have a lot of stuff - me art stuff, and him music stuff - and no extra rooms for studios, so...another reason it makes sense. People shouldn't assume that having separate bedrooms means people hate each other...although they very well might.
