One of the Duggar women is pregnant again

CB usually does posts about the Duggars or whatever circus family is the latest hot topic. Personally, I don’t give a sh-t about most of these people who are merely famous for breeding. I don’t think they are “celebrities” – I just think they’re weird and they’re off doing their thing, and I’m weird and I’m off doing my thing, and never the twain shall meet. And for those of you who defend them and their right to have a million children – fine. I’m right there with you. I defend both ends of the spectrum, because I believe in a woman’s right to choose, no matter if that choice is having a dozen children, or having multiple abortions. Choice is choice, and even if someone’s choice in unpalatable to me, I don’t have a say in another woman’s uterus, for better or for worse.

So it is with that introduction, I bring you this news – one of the Duggar women is pregnant again. Thankfully, it’s not Michelle (the matriarch of the brood). It’s Anna Duggar, wife of Josh. Josh and Anna already have one baby – 13 month old Mackynzie.

The oldest member of the 19-child Duggar family is proving that the apple doesn’t fall from the extremely fruitful family tree: On Thursday, Josh Duggar revealed live on TODAY that he and wife Anna are awaiting the arrival of their second child.

“We’re expecting!” a beaming Anna Duggar told Meredith Vieira via satellite from Springdale, Ark., as her battalion of in-laws looked on. Anna said that she and Josh, both 22, found out they’re in a family way on Oct. 8 — a special day for them, as it’s their daughter Mackynzie’s first birthday.

Though Josh was joking when he told Vieira that he and Anna “might be going for 25” children, he does already have a head start on his mom and pop: Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar married in 1984, but didn’t welcome first child Josh into the world until four years later.

Josh and Anna’s second child is due June 19, three months before the couple’s third wedding anniversary.

Joy after heartbreak

That Anna is ready to give the Duggar family a new addition is a special blessing after parental heartbreak: Just months after Mackynzie was born, Anna learned she was pregnant again, only to miscarry. Anna told Vieira she thought long and hard whether to reveal the miscarriage, but decided that talking about it could help others.

“I think a lot of ladies can relate,” she said. “Thirty to 40 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage, but most of the time it happens so early on, you don’t even realize you’re pregnant.”

Devout Christians like all the Duggars, Anna and Josh put their faith in a higher power during troubled times.

“It was hard to go through the excitement to find out we were expecting a little one, and then losing it,” Anna told Vieira. “But one thing that really helped was thanking God; thanking him in the good times and thanking him when things don’t go the way we expected them to.”

Faith and family

Religious beliefs have much to do with the family’s large size. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar practiced birth control early on in their 26-year marriage, and after Josh was born in 1988, they returned to it. But after Michelle suffered a miscarriage, the Duggars vowed to put their faith in God and have as many children as they could be blessed with.

Since then, Michelle Duggar has given the family 19 children through 17 pregnancies (two resulted in pairs of fraternal twins). The last of the 19, little Josie Brooklyn, was born in December 2009 — making her two months younger than her niece Mackynzie!

Speaking with Vieira on TODAY Thursday, Jim Bob Duggar clearly reveled in the news he’s going to be a second-time grandpa. “This doubles our grandchildren — we’re really excited about our new grandchild,” he said.

The gender of Josh and Anna’s second child is not yet known. Jim Bob and Michelle have 10 boys and nine girls; the birth of grandchild Mackynzie evened the gender lineup. Josh Duggar told TODAY his sisters are especially hoping to add a girl to their ranks so that females will assume the majority.

And while Jim Bob and Michelle are welcoming grandchildren, they aren’t ruling out the possibility they may have a 20th child themselves. The couple’s last child, Josie, was born three months premature and weighed only 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth, but is now thriving.

Michelle, 44, addressed the possibility of a 20th child in an interview with Radar Online, saying, “We would love more! I know that my mommy years are probably numbered, and I don’t know how many more children God will see fit to give me.

“That is something that we’ve prayed about and we’ll just see what the Lord has in store for our family in the future.”

[From Today]

Sure. Fine. God bless.

Also – the Duggars are no longer the only ones in QuiverFull famewhore game – The Bates Family of Tennessee is stepping up. Michelle Duggar is going to have a panic attack over this.

so what, having a bajillion kids is the new black?

  2. NancyMan says:

They need to get a hobby- something like pottery or wood-carving to keep them out of the bedroom. Actually, given the number of kids, I shouldn’t just assume they are exclusive to just one room.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

As long as they are capable of raising a child financially and emotionally and all that other stuff, have as many as you want. I don’t care, its those teen moms and loose women getting pregnant who clearly aren’t ready for babies that bug that hell outta me.

  4. Lucinda says:

If you look at the other family’s website, the Duggars helped them build a bigger house just recently. Doesn’t sound like they are threatened at all.

  5. Jacquie says:

I wonder if they are conspiring to take over the world, if each of the parents children do as they did, there will be about 400 of them within 50 years. Could you even imagine have 400 grandchildren? I say UGH to people who over-breed.

  6. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I wish em well. I had one kid, that was enough for me. I cant have more and that’s ok, he’s my world. So if they want to populate the world with well mannered, hard working Duggars, well, go for it. I dont care.

  7. grazi says:

i think that having a dozen of kids is at least irresponsible. Unfortunately, nature’s resources cant multiple like humans can. there is not enough resources for the worlds population, and we are depleting what is left for using it in an unsustainable way. By procreating like rabbits we are just upsetting the ecological balance. Nature needs time to reestablish itself, but it wont happen if we ever increase the demand. Call me whatever you want, but i think having all these kids is an ignorant and selfish attitude. You have your right to choose how many kids you want, yes, but your right should respect the right of others and future generations to have access to resources they will need.

“I know that my mommy years are probably numbered, and I don’t know how many more children God will see fit to give me”

It takes more to be a ‘mommy’ than just squeezing out the babies. You are a mother for life. Of course it is obvious that the older girls in the family do the mother-load of the mothering in the family. What bothers me about this family is the obvious gender roles and sexism that exists. The girls stay inside and do all the housework and childcare while the boys do, whatever.

  9. Isa says:

Am I the only one that thinks it may be a little too early to announce?

  10. PsychicEyes says:

Well, if people want to breed like mice then I suppose that is their prerogative. As long as the taxpayers are not footing the bill.

However, we should also study the psychological effects of having such a large brood and parents who put pressure on their teenage children to look after their small enfants. That I feel is where they are being irresponsible and perhaps misguided by their religion which may have brain washed them into believing that this is acceptable and what God would want them to do.

Having children is a privilege and not a right. And those who abuse those rights then it’s a different story.

  11. Jeri says:

Wish we could choose a total media ban on these people.

  12. Stubbylove says:

It was hilarious to watch Meredith interview to these freaks on the Today Show today. You could see how severely annoyed she was to even cover the story. The amazing thing is that ANYONE is interested in them – they reproduce – wow – so do the ants in my sidewalk.

  13. original kate says:

the earth’s resources are not infinite -giving birth to 20 kids is irresponsible. i worry about potable water, garbage islands and global warming affecting the next generation, and i don’t even have kids. why don’t more parents worry about the mess they will leave to their kids?

  14. Kiska says:

    @ original Kate.

I’m with you on that. The earth is maxed out and these imbeciles keep on populating the earth.

  15. Iggles says:

I loved this. Spoken like a true christian. Faith in all times, whether good or bad.

(disclaimer – i know there are other faiths. i’m not saying christianity has this philosophy on lock.)

Overall though, I find Josh’s parents creepy! He and his wife seem nice.

  16. Anti-icon says:

I think you are my new best friend, Cele/Bitchy, because your “prelude” to the post is MY prelude to being a good sista in life. Choice for all freaks and Greeks.

However…….do we have a law in this country pertaining to the PUBLIC education of our children? Do these Duggars home school? Is it a “certified” home school education? Does it even approach the (too mild) standards of the GED? Will any of them pass a college entrance exam?

These are my concerns as a woman of choice.

  17. Ellen Smith says:

Let’s stop all of the Duggar clown cars before the circus explodes.

  18. heb says:

    1) The Duggars are not quiverfull. they’ve said it a million times

    2) the Bates are part of their plan, I’m sure more than one Duggar will marry a Bates so I don’t think they see them as a threat

  19. Shanzy says:

they should green tax people who have more than 2 children. replace yourselves and if you want more – pay for it.

  20. LindaR says:

I agree @Stubbylove. Meredith was very obviously not happy!

  21. Sugar & Spice says:

Wait, I’m confused – didn’t Jim Bob & Michelle say that Michelle’s miscarriage was caused by her using birth control? Now we find out Anna had a miscarriage, and she’s obviously never used bc, and she (correctly) states that @ 40% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

Now I’m curious to hear what Jim Bob & Michelle have to say! I think they just used that as an excuse to have irresponsible sex without caring about the consequences.

  22. Jewbitch says:

The bates and duggars are good friends.

  23. C-DUB says:

Well at least they aren’t asking for handouts. Jon and Kate need to find Jesus!

  24. normades says:

@ Grazi and Original Kate: Well put, couldn’t agree more.
Can we now stop paying attention to these people?

  25. OtherChris says:

Do we really need this douchebag talking to anyone about values? Well, no.

  26. TaylorB says:

“Having children is a privilege and not a right. And those who abuse those rights then it’s a different story.”

I hate to be rude but how is it not a ‘right’ to have children? It isn’t like getting a drivers license, that is not a ‘right’ it is a privilege. People have the right to have children or not, no one, especially gov’t, should limit that right either way.

  27. LolaBella says:

    For the love of…*headdesk*

  28. serena says:

    They’re sick.

Not only she almost lose her last baby and suffered enormous pain, but she wants another one?? For God’s sake you have 19 children, take care of them and leave the rest behind, sickos.

  29. Bodhi says:

Whoa. The Bates family is even creepier to me than the Duggers. And they are CLEARLY Quiverfull

And not wanting to miss out on any blessings, our quiver began to fill.

  30. KsGirl says:

I’m with Kaiser on this – other people’s wombs? Not my business.

I will say, tho, that there is a freakin EPIDEMIC of bad hair in these families. I’d support legal action against that shizz.

  31. Kim says:

I guess one of the daughters should be getting married/pregnant in the next year

  32. TaylorB says:

KSGirl wrote: “I will say, tho, that there is a freakin EPIDEMIC of bad hair in these families. I’d support legal action against that shizz.”

So I guess it is safe to say that you don’t care for the circa 1985 FemMullet and Tom Delay Helmet hair?? It could be worse, they could have lice.

  33. hmm says:

You know, the thing that bugs me is that it seems like the kids never get a chance to be special or important in their own right. Case in point–they couldn’t just celebrate the baby’s first birthday, it had to be shared with the fact that another one is on the way. Meanwhile, Michelle keeps popping them out while her older kids raise them. And that Jim Bob dude is a total cheeseball.

  34. Hannah says:

So far I don’t have a problem with Josh and Anna having another child. Many couples prefer to have their children be close in age. It’ll be a few years before we see whether the next generation of Duggars follows the example of their parents.

The problem that I have with the Duggars has to do with the fact that the girls do seem to raise the kids and shoulder a lot of responsibility—significantly more so than the boys.

    And then there’s the hair…

When I see the bad perms and the braces I always wonder why are they tinkering with what God created. If God has the responsibility for birth control, shouldn’t the same be said for crooked teeth and straight hair?

  35. Sarajane says:

@Anti-icon: Each state has their own laws when it comes to homeschooling and yes, the Duggar family does homeschool.

My son is homeschooled and when he finishes, he will have a regular high school (state endorsed) diploma, just like the public school students get. In some states, the kids get a GED.

In some states, the parent or teacher has to have a teaching certificate, but it’s not required by every state.

  36. Sugar & Spice says:

I’m just waiting for the announcement that one of the older Duggar daughters is pregnant! I wonder if Jim Bob would officiate at his daughter’s shotgun wedding?!

  37. Tia C says:

Ugh. Of COURSE they are. These people are sick.

  38. MrsKrabapple says:

Having kids has become their profession. It disgusts me.

  39. patricia plunkett says:

leave the duggars alone. at least their daughters will know how to be mothers when they are grown. as for their hair styles at least it’s not red pink and or green and shaved on one side. the boys aren’t raised any different than most of the guys out there all except they do pull their britches up. thank god for the duggars

  40. Hannah says:

Knowing how to cook, clean and run a household is not the equivalent of knowing how to be a mother–it’s more like training to be Camille Grammer’s house manager.

  41. Brittney says:

I just noticed… Jim looks like an even more conservative, aged version of Kenneth from 30 Rock.

  42. Penguen says:

    @Patricia Plunkett:

    3/10

  43. Teri says:

That hole family makes me sick all they do is screw like rabbits and have kids

  44. animacrackers says:

    Congrats you wierd lot!

  45. ViktoryGin says:

Clicked on the Bates link, read “…and we live in the Hills of East Tennessee” and that’s all I needed to know.

Why doesn’t this sh*t ever occur NORTH of the Mason-Dixon Line?

  46. suzie says:

The Duggar family is claiming, whatever they are doing is an gift by God, but this is totally opposite to nature’s rule. A women is not an machine to generate children’s. On that, the kids are not grown up in an normal condition, as the common kids are. This way how long can they survive and fight back towards this community and its changing phases.

  47. bonni_manns says:

If you are not interrested in the Duggers then don’t watch or read about them I for one am i have 5 kids at 26 , I think its wonderful that the Duggers have such a large family that they only support not with any Gov. assistance. I want to know as soon as Michelle finds out number 20 is on the way.. And I want to know the sex of the new grandbaby

  48. Jackie says:

I am sorry to hear so many of you people being so judgemental. Does the Lord not teach, “Judge not lest ye be judged?” I have had 6 children and 6 miscarriages in 8 years, and yes, for all of you who want to know, I was on birth control when I got pregnant with 10 out of my 12 pregnancies, I had the norplant, and had my tubes tied. I got pregnant with my youngest while I had the norplant in. The day after she was born, I had my tubes tied, got pregnant 3 months later and miscarried. This life is full of amazing miracles, misteries, and heartache. If you spend all your time judging others for raising large, well mannered, well adjusted, and loving families, then you are missing the real meaning of life and are missing all the amazing things life has to offer. I admire those familes who can have and raise children this way. If I could have had more children safely, I would have. Children are amazing bessings from God, and I am eternally thankful and greatful for the children I have, especially because I was never supposed to be able to have any children and the children I do have were all born premie, making them even bigger blessings. If watching the Duggers is so bad for you, then please don’t watch the show and don’t put them down for doing something you don’t understand.
