Rihanna’s Kool-Aid wig situation goes from bad to worse

I remember when Rihanna first came on the scene. I didn’t like her music all that much, but I thought she was a pretty little thing. Skip ahead four, five years, and I can barely remember when she actually looked cute. It’s like she’s trying to be “shocking” and avant-garde with a succession of horrible wigs, weaves, haircuts and styles. Earlier this year, she jacked her hair with that horrible half-shaved bright red mushroom-cut. She’s been growing that junk out for months, and it’s currently above her shoulders, still Kool-Aid red/pink day-glo. And now RiRi got herself a new wig. And it is fug as hell.

Ugh. I just don’t get it. And before everyone yells at me and tells me RiRi just has her own style and she’s doing her own thing – well, that’s only PART of it. The problem is that RiRi thinks she’s a trendsetter. She thinks she’s doing all of this first, and that lots of girls are going to want to try the same look – thus, the wigs and the cuts and the dye jobs. She’s trying to start a trend, and be the first one there. And instead of starting a trend, she just looks like she’s trying too hard to be different. Like she’s stuck at 14 years old.

Also – Rihanna was posing with some children over the weekend. Check out her necklace:

Rihanna actually bought and wore a necklace that reads “F-ck you”. Because she’s the most hardcore 14 year old EVER.

When I was 17, I used to think wearing shirts with swear words on them was cool, like ‘Im a bitch whats your excuse’, ‘fuck off’, just stupid things. Flash forward 8years and I am now 25 years old and cant stand seeing stupid things like that in public. And it looks even worse on other grown women who look as though they had a hard life. I grew up and realized how childish it looks, but apparently Rihanna didnt get the memo.

Someone needs to tell Rihanna there’s a mighty fine line between “edgy” and just plain “hard.”

to me, she was always like meh. didnt really like her music, but she looked cute.
now all the “singers” wanna be so shocking and avant garde (Rihanna, Kesha, Katy Perry bla bla) that it became a freak show. if gaga never happened, none of this would happen to us right now.
skip ahead two years and an unstyled girl with a guitar in her hands will dominate top of the charts again, trust me.
    it becomes boring!

Why does she try so hard to make herself look stupid? I mean, doesn’t she have friends or family who care enough to take her aside and tell her she shouldn’t go out in public looking so foolish?

But, then again, I don’t get why she is so famous, anyway. She can’t sing worth a damn and she certainly isn’t pretty or interesting.

I bet Blohan’s bummed she didn’t have that necklace to wear to court. It would have matched her nails!

Not to be offensive but Kaiser, how old are you? You always come across as a nagging old lady whenever you try and critique fashion. This isn’t a fashion blog, obviously. What she’s doing isn’t shocking or new. Rihanna’s 22 years old, trying different things. She’s young. Get over it.

She’ll be onto something else for you old people to be horrified by in no time.

EDIT: I also find it funny to note that when she actually looks adorable (which is quite often), it isn’t notable enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nitLtsarXC4

Actually, her real hair is super short and black. She hacked it off, anything red has been wigs. At least for the past few months.

    I think she looks interesting.

@Dominique, with all the recent fashion posts, I’ve actually been wondering that as well….

I actually like the red hair, I just hated when it looked mangy and unkempt. I think she wanted to keep some texture in her hair/weave, which is fine, but when it was short it just looked nasty and uncombed at times. It looks good when it looks well-kept

Thank you Dominique. Kids try different looks all the time. RiRi is a celebrity and they “reinvent” themselves in order to stay current. You are coming off kinda ‘Church lady-ish.’ But then again, the name of this site is celebitchy.

I love the shorter red hair pictures (keep in mind this is coming from a girl who handed her hairdresser a picture of 1997 Ginger Spice & said ‘Give me that’)- but I’m sorry, in what context is wearing an FU necklace to a kid’s event EVER okay?!

I have always thought the same thing…she trys too hard to be “different”…her and many other artist…they are too busy trying to out beat each other, especially on being (odd) that it’s become pathetic. Now IF that’s who they TRULY were as a person, then all power for them, but it’s lame they are trying to portray what they are clearly NOT. I really like people who are original (regardless if they are “different” or “normal”), it’s about who they are deep down inside. Sorry, I don’t like Ri much nor Katy Perry, I just don’t. I like people like Gwen Stefani…very VERY original and truly eccentric.

It’s a toss up as to who sings worse, Katy Perry or Rhianna. Live singing from them is like being at a crap night bar with some drunk chick who thinks she sounds like Whitney circa 1987.

I can understand Raccoon McPantless wearing the “f-you” necklace because she is sooo edgy and doesn’t give a f*ck. But c’mon Rihanna, tons of young girls look up to you, so can’t you just tone down your edginess in just this one small instance?
