Jamie Spears & Lynne Spears are back together after 2002 divorce

This is a nice story – Britney Spears’s parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, have reconciled eight years after their 2002 divorce. Jamie and Lynne split at the height of Britney’s success, and I remember rumors at the time revolving around Jamie wanting to be in Louisiana and Lynne wanting to be in LA for both Britney and Jamie-Lynne’s careers. Gossip Cop was the first to report the reconciliation, noting that the couple were “spotted being affectionate with each other on Saturday at Boudoir, a club in Los Angeles…A source close to the family tells Gossip Cop Jamie and Lynne have been back together since the summer.” People Magazine has more:

Britney Spears’s parents, Lynne and Jamie Spears, are reconciling eight years after their divorce.

“They are back together and are doing well and happy,” a source tells PEOPLE. “[They’re] not remarried but back together.”

The couple, who divorced in 2002, were looking friendly on Saturday at Los Angeles lounge Boudoir. Onlookers at the lounge spotted Lynne and Jamie cheering and dancing as DJ Mr. Best spun Britney’s hits, like “Toxic” and “Gimme More.”

“They were in a great mood together,” says an onlooker. “They were laughing together – dancing and laughing [and] totally having fun.”

“Lynne is a dear, sweet person,” a family friend tells PEOPLE. “She deserves happiness. As her friend, my wish for her would be a happy ending.”

In 2002, shortly after the breakup of her parents’ 30-year marriage, Britney told PEOPLE it wasn’t a bad thing.

“It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to my family,” says Spears. “My mom and dad, bottom line, do not get along. When I was a baby, they argued.”

Britney, 28, also has been doing well romantically, and is currently dating Jason Trawick, 38.

Lynne and Jamie have been back together as a couple since last summer, according to Gossip Cop, which first reported the news of their reconciliation.

These photos that I’m using, they’re from August, when Jason Trawick took Britney to Hawaii, Jamie and Lynn stayed in LA and took care of Sean Preston and Jaden. They even took them out for a happy beach photo op. I remembered the photos from when I first saw them – just because I thought Jamie and Lynn looked so happy and sweet together. Do you think their mutual concern for their daughters brought them closer together? Or is it because Jamie moved out to LA permanently to take care of Britney, and the move was convenient for Lynne? I like to think that they were simply still in love, and they just wanted to be together, all over again. *wipes tear from eye*

While Britney soaks up the sun on her romantic Hawaiian getaway, her boys Sean and Jayden James enjoy a lovely day with their grandparents Jamie and Lynne Spears at a Los Angeles area beach Tuesday August 24th 2010. The boys splashed around gleefully on the beach as Jamie and Lynne took turns with each. While Britney and Jason Trawick continue getting hot and heavy in Hawaii, its interesting to note that parents Jamie and Lynne looked like a happy couple together themselves despite being divorced since 2002. So sweet!

  6. bellaluna says:

Yeah, I believe them having the same goal of getting Britney well and taking care of their grandchildren probably showed them their values-system is still the same. How refreshing, since most divorcing/divorced parents with children in LA spend more time bad-mouthing the ex to the paps.
*side eye to Charlie Sheen, Brook Mueller, Brandi Glanville, and too many more to type*

And what a great example for Brit & her boys. I hope this time around it sticks.

AWWWWW, Kaiser, would you like to borrow my rose colored glasses?

I personally can see how the fame could damage a marriage that, after all, wasn’t built on Hollywood standards. Perhaps they’ve healed their wounds and in caring for their family, have rediscovered each other.

Turns out I’m going to need those glasses back…

Paging Dina and Michael Lohan…. iiiik!!

  9. mollyb says:

Awww. I hope it works out for them. When I was in college, one of my fellow work-study’s parents were getting remarried after being divorced for twenty years. I ran into her the other day (about ten years later) and they were still together!

  10. happygirl says:

Sweet story, Kaiser! I really hope it works out for them.

  11. Ferguson. says:

Aw, hope it works! wish them the best, im glad they’re nothing like the Dina and Michael Lohans of the world.

  12. Mizz Tickles says:

Heartwarming story also Mollyb that is so sweet:)

  13. Katija says:

Didn’t he quit drinking when Britney hit rock bottom so that he could step in and take care of her? If so, that would explain this reconciliation – He’s proved he can be sober consistently without relapse. This story is very, very sweet. 🙂

Lynne IS a hottie! I LOVVVEEEE that photo of Jamie kissing one of the boys-so sweet!

  15. JM says:

What a nice story. I have an aunt & uncle who were married for 20 years then divorced for 20 and then remarried. They are happier than they were the 1st time but I think alcohol had a lot to do with the first divorce. Anyway, it’s always nice to see two people find their way back to one another. Good for them.

  16. Kricket says:

    yaaaaay!
love that pic of Jamie kissing his grandson 😀

  17. fabgrrl says:

As others have said, Lynne is hot! Britney would look so much better if she copied her mom’s look.

  18. TeeTee says:

all it took was being in control of Britney’s money, oops, I mean life.

He was practically broke when they were divorcing, now he isn’t–same ole, same ole. He’s back in charge of his family at his daughter’s expense.

its not a fairy tale that they allow their daughter to be a zombie in order to get and KEEP their hands on her money..

not cute to me..boooooo to bad parenting for the last 25 yrs!

  19. Henriette says:

I hope this turns out well. And I hope that they manage to keep Britney on the path to recovery from… well… WHATEVER she was suffering from.

  20. dinigi says:

    following the money trail….

  21. Hautie says:

Thank goodness I am not the only one thinking it is a cash issue. 🙂

He has control over Britney’s finances.

Has a healthy income from being the man in charge.

And Lynne had nothing coming in. With Jamie Lynn doing the Mom thing and not working… means Lynne was not getting her Mom-manager cut.

    A girl needs a income.

  22. Jenna says:

awwwww i hope everything works out for them!!! 🙂

  23. Anon73 says:

awwww, i am really glad to read something like this !! ; ) this is great they could work things out.

  24. Kim says:

I would like to think this is a happy story but if their own child said they never got along then how r they going to all of a sudden get along?

Didnt he used to have a alcohol addiction? Then this is probably why they fought & got divocred and if he cleaned up it could work second time around.

I just hope this isnt a fake story for money/publicity.

Cant wait to hear what Britney has to say about this.

  25. Anti-icon says:

I think these two adult parents are doing exactly what they have to do to provide the best possible secure and safe and (hopefully) joyful a life as they can for all their children and grandchildren. I’ve always liked Lynne Spears, but I don’t know why. (Never read her parenting books, the timing was awful on that, but she doesn’t talk to the media too much, which I appreciate.)

  26. jemshoes says:

This IS a rather nice story! And a nice change, too, from the usual stories of divorce, infidelity and broken families.

    Good luck to them! 🙂
