Mamma Mia!, here we go again down the red carpet…

The world premiere of Mamma Mia! held at the Odeon Leicester Square in London, England was a huge success with hundreds of fans all the way from Waterloo to the celebs spending tons of Money, Money, Money on their wardrobe, hair and jewelery. Meryl Streep can do no wrong in her acting career. On the red carpet however, she’s made bigger mistakes than Barbara Walters letting Rosie O’Donnell leave The View.

My first thought is: “Didn’t her stylist see Madonna’s Nothing Really Matters Video? WTF? It’s been done!” My second thought is: “Damn, those Christian Louboutin shoes are kickin’! ‘Atta Girl!”

Amanda Seyfried looks like a barmaid who had to work late on St. Patrick’s Day.

Judging by Colin Firth’s wife Livia Giuggioli’s dress, she really isn’t that happy to be there or that busy of a bee. I mean if she were, she wouldn’t have to advertise it.

Christine Baranski looks lovely, dignified and uber classy. LOVE the color, LOVE the couture trojan feel (yes, I just said Couture Trojan), and any amateur would have paired this sheath with silver shoes, but Ms. Baranksi took the high road with the Midas touch.

Pierce Brosnan looks completely dashing. I’m not digging the busy floral print on wife Keely Shaye-Smith’s dress. She runs the risk of having Colin Firth’s wife trying to pollinate her at the after party.

Mamma Mia opens nationwide in the US on July 18th and Knowing Me, Knowing You, we’ll both be there.

Here’s the trailer:

Christine Baranski – love her but colour way too pale against her very fair skin….
Meryl Streep rocks, great colour but she could wear a sack and I’d still be scrabbling around for superlatives to describe her fabulousness….
Livia Giuggioli, gorgeous, prize for best accessory in Colin which cancels out the slightly odd dress….

  2. Megan says:

Wow Colin Firth gets sexier and sexier. His wife is beautiful, shame about her bizarre dress!

  3. Frenchie says:

does “trojan couture” relates to the pinkish colour of the condom ???

  4. ri23 says:

    Want Meryl’s shoes!!!!

  5. Kristin says:

This movie looks sooo dumb. :[

  6. snappyfish says:

I am guessing there was a bet on who could look the worst.

This is NOT fashion. These are clothes, for the most part ill fitting clothes. Do these people not have a stylist?

Streep’s Louboutins are okay but at the mild end of the fabulous-ness of that line. The dress is awful. The best that can be said is….well, I think the shoes are the best that can be said.

This is hurting my eyes. I will leave it to Bellatrix to further comment on this disaster.

  7. Bodhi says:

Christine Baranski looks great! That dress is definately something I’d wear

  8. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

Oh, Meryl. I love her even if she has no idea how to dress. She should borrow Helen Mirren’s stylist.

Baranski looks hot, great dress. I hope my legs look that great at her age.

Colin Firth in films? Yum. Firth in real life? Very dorky.

  9. Celebitchy says:

@Frenchie – I think Micah means like “Roman couture” but went with “Trojan” instead, but it does look like a condom-colored dress and if you turn your head and squint there are further comparisons.

  10. kate says:

colin firth is yummy and christine is a fave of mine, but i agree this movie looks dumb beyond words.

  11. xxx says:

Yea!!!! I have Christine Baranski’s dress! It’s Gucci and I got it for about 70% off on Gucci’s summer sale on their website a few weeks ago. It has an open back.

I saw Pierce Brosnon in the Kauai airport several years ago, what attracted me is how handsome he was and then I realize who he was. He was with his wife and she was just starting to gain weight at that time. She’s really gained a lot. She is also very pretty but he’s one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen. Supposedly he rolls with the locals and spends a lot of time at his beach house there.

Ps, in the photo Christine is wearing gold shoes, which is what the model was wearing in the ad for the dress. When you see the dress it’s a dark pink crepe silk, silver shoes would look off. Gold is the proper choice but I would have went for a brighter pure gold shade as the ad showed.

  12. xxx says:

Clearly Colin Firth’s wife is beautiful, she needs to fire her fashion stylist which is probably herself. What would possess someone to dress like a bumble bee? That would have been appropriate at Seinfeld’s bee movie.

  13. Bellatrix says:

Oh, snappyfish, thank you so much for leaving the this-is-a-disaster-on-the-red-carpet comment to me. It truly is.

How come all these ladies are so wrongly dressed for this event?
Pierce and Colin always stand out but now they get the red carpet fashion trophy too.
Tststs, whatever happened to working with a real stylist?

I love Meryl Streep but she’s wearing a bowl of red satin with a now out of fashion gladiatrix/dominatrix (that’s the risk of taking patented leather) belt. The Louboutin might be stunning but they are a normal and classic peep toe model. They are everything but a fashion statement or risk. Just a classic every woman who could afford them should have in order to own a pair of shoes that you can ALWAYS wear without making a huge fashion mistake.
Not good, Mrs Streep. But that lovely and eternal smile wipes everything away.

As for Firth’s wife. Why would she choose to wear the Castelbajac dress that is known to be a “fluokid” outfit? It’s the dress all the young hipsters who listen to Tecktonic music and have rich parents own.
Even the young French artist Yelle wore it in her flashy music video : http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=m4xp6biFq_M. It’s ok if you’re twenty-something or if you want to go out and have fun. But for a red carpet event for your husband’s movie, you might want something a tiny bit classier.
I won’t comment the necklace (makes me shake my head and purse my lips) or the bag. I like the natural hairdo though! There you go, something positive.

Pierce Brosnan’s wife is wearing all the wrong colours for her figure and her skin colour.
I won’t go deeper into that. She always shines and looks so nice…

Alalala, Seyfried’s dress looks like leaves of salad stitched together. It could work but you’d have to make a real long dress (without the extra black fabric) out of it and have the attitude to pull it off.
Yet, again, she smiles beautifully just like Streep. You’d want to forgive her for the fashion faux pas.
The shoes are nice though (with another outfit).

I’m stopping the negative criticism here.
Frenchie hit right on the spot with the Trojan word association. It does look like a giant condom.

Oh, this red carpet was very funny to watch! πŸ˜€
I truly hope there was a bet going on between the ladies. Maybe it was about who’d wear the most daring dress or colour. I’m not sure…

  14. Blackalicious says:

They all look fabulous. The bee dress is harsh and too young (read: playful ingenue) and that’s not a slam on his wife’s age; just something a young kid should wear.

Christine B. is fantastic – I always thought we should see her more often and in more roles. Love her.

How much are Laboutins? They are so flattering. If affordable enough I would get them for a one off; I love Meryl’s.

Keely has always been curvy but she has become obese; she’s pretty but hey, she’s married to Pierce Brosnan who seems happy with her. Lucky!

  15. xxx says:

The Laboutins are new fall arrivals, about $720. You might be able to find them on neimannarcus.com or saks.com.

  16. vdantev says:

Somewhere in the cold black depths of the entertainment world, someone uttered the words, “I know, let’s make a musical based on the irritating, trivial fluff music of 70’s pop band ABBA.” and they weren’t laughed out of the office, blacklisted and ridden out of town on a rail ?

  17. stellapurdy says:

This has got to be the one and only time that I have agreed with vdantev.

Simply awful all the way around.

  18. laura says:

I don’t think Seyfried’s dress is bad enough to be called barmaid attire…

  19. drm says:

Meryl could wear a potato sack and look fab, I think she looks great…sort of like “Yeah…deal….” πŸ™‚

  20. K says:

    I love Colin!!! Sigh

  21. hannah says:

meryl dosent look her age she looks well younger an she could put anything on and would still look amazin.
    amanda looks fab.
and i love the mama mia movie it is the best film i have seen in a long time so i keep on watching it over and over again.

  22. anne says:

Re Livia Giuggioli,Colin’s wife, I agree the dress is a bit unfortunate from the back but from the front I think it looks great. She’s quite petite and the girlish A line shape really suits her and the bright metallic yellow goes very well with her colouring. I thought she carried it off well. Pity about the back though.

  23. Hayley says:

The dress is actually also in a french music video by “Yelle” called, “Je Veux tu Voir” it’s on youtube and actually an awesome video/song and the dress looks surprisingly 20 times better in the video. That’s why I went searching for it haha.
