Amy Winehouse put on virtual “house arrest”

I know I promised I’d back off the Amy Winehouse stories, but this is just too good to pass up. Amy is quickly going the way of Britney Spears – including being grounded like a child and monitored by her father. Amy recently admitted that she’d continued using drugs even while she was in rehab. That revelation – combined with her checking out of the hospital – caused her father Mitch to ban her from leaving the house a few days ago.

Unfortunately Amy was photographed sneaking out and jumping into a random passerby’s car. Her record label decided they’d had more than enough, and have put her on a serious lockdown – complete with security to keep her inside the house. And just as importantly – to keep others out.

Amy Winehouse has sensationally confessed to taking drugs while being treated for heroin addiction. Now concerned record label bosses have put the 24-year-old singer on round-the-clock watch in a last-ditch attempt to get her to clean up her act.

Amy admits: “I’ve never been to rehab – I mean, done it properly. I’m young, and I’m in love, and I get my nuts off sometimes… But it’s never been like, ‘Amy, get your life together’ … To be honest, my husband’s away, I’m bored, I’m young. I felt like there was nothing to live for. It’s just been a low ebb.”

…following her explosive interview with Rolling Stone magazine, music executives have got tough. We’re told: “Effectively, Amy’s been put under house arrest. She is being monitored by 24/7 surveillance to make sure she’s behaving herself and keeping out of harm’s way. There is also a security guard stationed outside her house around the clock to vet any undesirables.

From now on there’ll be no more waifs and strays – or fans – coming into her place, wreaking havoc. Crucially, they don’t want known drug dealers coming anywhere near her. Amy has to give them names of people expected. Anyone who turns up uninvited will be sent packing. It’s for her own good.”

[From the Mirror]

It’s pretty sad to hear all that, and it sounds like Amy really has no clue how far she’s fallen. Which means things will have to get a hell of a lot worse before she tries to make any improvements in her life. I can see why her record label is doing whatever they can, but frankly locking Amy up isn’t going to do any good in the long term. It’s one of the saddest things in the world, but they really will have to let her reach whatever her rock bottom is before anything will change. I can’t even imagine how low a point that must be.

Here’s Amy Winehouse’s hand – yep, that’s all we get of her. According to WENN, she “had to barter with two men for a smoke and made a deal through her letterbox to exchange an autograph for two cigarettes,” yesterday. Header of Winehouse outside her home on June 30th. Images thanks to WENN.

umm…i get that it’s for her own good. totally get it. but isn’t that false imprisonment? if she’s not under arrest or on parole, how can anybody keep her from leaving her house? or are things different in the UK? are people denied their rights because they’re idiots regularly? just curious…

Since when does her record label have the right to put her under house arrest?

Cancel her contract and sue her arse like any other adult, but to ground a 24yo like a teenager is laughable and Amy obviously agrees – yeah, it’s for her own good but so is cod liver oil

    Is it lawful?

p.s. Jaybird…when did you promise to cut down on Amy stories?? Did I miss something?

  3. Jaundice Machine says:

I just want to scrub her little head clean. Don’t go the way of Lady Day, Miss Amy.

You can’t help someone that doesn’t want help. She’ll just get drugs another way. She’s determined to piss away her career. I just hope when she’s done she can get it back.

  5. JayBird says:

xiaoecho I promised to cut down on them after a few commenters pointed out that we were writing about her pretty much everyday. So… I held off one day. I just find her so bizarrely fascinating, because she doesn’t even try to hide how wacko she is.

I should clarify that her record label has her under “virtual” house arrest – I’m sure they haven’t legally locked her down. But I’m GUESSING they gave Amy some kind of serious ultimatum, because she must have in some way agreed to this.

I think house arrest is a good thing for Amy. She hasn’t really sunk that low as long as she never eats at Olive Garden – right Jaybird?

  7. Asmodee says:

This whole Amy Winehouse debacle is staged. I don’t mean that she isn’t really self-destructive, or may not end up dead. Just that it’s all an act.

She has no soul ( ironic that she’s a soul singer ) and doesn’t care if she lives or dies. Either way, she’s just going to hell, where she already lives anyway. It’s all pointless.

  8. oxa says:

She needs to be sectioned like Britney, held in a locked mental health faciliy and forced to clean up her act.
She will die if she does not get the proper help, lokcing he in her own home is not the care she needs.

Jaybird….I WANT to read about her everyday – her life is so bizarre. Every other day it’s something new and I’m sure she thrives on it – can you imagine when Blake gets out? –so keep up the good work as far as I’m concerned 😀

Thanks, I am glad to know other people are as obsessed with the bizarreness as I am.

Oh and I just came back from a hearty meal of Olive Garden bread sticks. Which, by my own logic, means I’ve sunk lower than Jessica Simpson AND Amy Winehouse. And it was totally, totally worth it.

Please don’t stop the Winehouse posts! They are the only ones I always read.
    I love her oddness, too.

  12. I hope Amy Winehouse survives her problems. But a lot of us fear she may not. My favourite is her “no good” song.
It has amazing atmosphere and captures her unhappyness. I hope she gets well enough to write a bril song about happyness. Has she got a single due out???? cheers Jonty M

I’m obsessed with her too. BTW, Olive Garden’s minestrone soup is great.

I’m addicted to Amy Winehouse’s trainwrecking behavior. Just like many bad things in life, if you choose not to partake, don’t do it, d’uh! Just don’t infringe on someone else, yo.

OT: It’s a damned shame the a record company has to do what Winehouse’s parents should have done, YEARS AGO. Winehouse’s parents figured, Amy (their little angel) will get rich, get married, and get out of their hair. Jokes on the record company, management and media, hey?

Xiaoecho and Jaybird, and to my fellow Yanks, Happy 4th! At least we’re free to roam, LOL!

hahahah that picture of her hand is hilarious…much better than her face at this point.
    freakin amy.

    clean yourself up.
