Stunt casting at its finest: Katie Holmes will guest star on ‘Eli Stone’

Stunt casting sure is seeing a resurgence lately. Since Britney Spears absolutely dazzled the masses in her pivotal role in How I Met Your Mother last spring, absolutely everybody who’s anybody has been eager to jump to the small screen. Lindsay Lohan, Victoria Beckham – the list goes on. And now master thespian Katie Holmes is shooting an episode of ABC’s Eli Stone, to be aired this fall.

“She was fabulous at the table read. There’s some singing and dancing that she does – its exquisite,” ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said at the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills Wednesday.

The executive producer of the ABC show, Greg Berlanti, also worked on Dawson’s Creek, which made Holmes a star in the late ’90s. “It’s a great reunion for Katie and Greg Berlanti,” said McPherson. “He and Katie wanted to get together.” Berlanti explained that Holmes will play an attorney but she won’t be practicing law in the episode [sic].

“I begged her” to appear on the show,” Berlanti said. “And she said, ‘I’d love to.'” Holmes has been shooting her scenes in L.A. The show returns October 14. Eli Stone star Johnny Lee Miller revealed that Holmes has been working “extremely hard. We did 17 hours yesterday, most of her time was spent dancing,” Miller said. “She was fantastic. A really really great person.”

Well we know they didn’t hire her for her legendary acting skills. And though one of the show’s other producers raves about Katie’s film acting, Greg Berlanti admitted that they “really wanted to bring eyeballs to the show and do anything we could to get people talking about the show.” And that they did. The acting may be far too quiet and a little flat, but God knows people will be talking about it.

I think Johnny Lee Miller is cute, love the show. His ‘secretary’ gets the best lines though.

  2. chamalla says:

Lookit that, Suri’s feet are already bigger than her dad’s…… 8)

I love the show, I think Katie will be perfect for it. I agree this will give them a lot of buzz, but that is show biz for you.I think she is actually a good actress when you set all the tomkat rubbish aside. They after all chose her over Michelle Williams to play lead in Dawson’s creek.

  4. Barbie says:

Why does the kid still have a bottle?

  5. Bodhi says:

No!! I love that show & now they’re gonna ruin it! Ratings must be low…

She is a terrible actress. She just is. She was ok (I guess) as Joey Potter because the character wasn’t a big strech for her. A whiney teenager isn’t a hard role after all. Michelle Williams is a far superior actress. She doesn’t need to stoop to stunt casting to find work

  6. Syko says:

What do you mean, chamalla? It’s not just her feet, Suri is bigger than her dad all over! Only kid in the world who’s 12 years old and still sucking her bottle of barley water.

  7. gg says:

Surprised nobody’s said anything about the K-Mart feet. 😆

Katie’s hair looks really good curled like that! I’m surprised because I don’t usually like that hairdo.

  8. Bodhi says:

Suri has trailer baby feet!! Good call, gg. They aren’t as bad as mine, but few are! 😉

I don’t have kids & I don’t know anything about raising them, but damn, can’t they atleast switch Suri to a sippy cup? That bottle can’t be good for her teefs

  9. chamalla says:

Bwah! Syko, you rock. *passes a fruity drink in a coconut with an umbrella*

I’m not a fan of the stunt casting. I do think it’s probably good for Katie to get out and make a little money of her own. I agree she’s not the brightest star in Hollywood, but I’ve liked her in a couple of things… She was great in Wonderboys and Enchanted April. I think she has talent in there somewhere, the Xenu Flakes (now with 100% more ethics!) she eats every morning must be suppressing it…

  10. Codzilla says:

For some reason, her hair isn’t really doing it for me. It’s reminiscent of Farah Fawcett (sp?) in her prime, only shorter and more crispy looking.

What. The. Hell. It’s ‘exquisite’, is it?! Pardon me while I vomit.

That, ladies is the very do Christine Cagney rocked fighting crime on Cagney and Lacey.

  13. kim merlin says:

what’s with the long black gloves on katie…isn’t it 100 degrees out????

  14. katherine, you look so familiar.

  15. Laila says:

Suri seems to have a very strong personality. If they don’t curb it when she is young, they are going to have a problem. Look at her trying to push her father away. That child is trouble with a capital T.

Nice of Katie to allow to do an old friend a favour. She is a decent actress, no Meryl Streep but good nonethelss. I don’t think we have seen the best of her yet.

  16. lulu says:

    Suri looks more like a 3-year-old than a 2-year-old… hmmm… definitely not Tom’s child….

    *Pieces of April*
i couldnt stand her before i saw that movie. but i had to admit that she was fantastic in it.
**SIGH** too bad we’ll never know what she could have done with her talent. now it’s all stunt parts and mad money. ick.

  18. Meredith says:

I’ve never even heard of Eli Stone. But yeah she’s a terrible actress IMO; I’m sure it’s Tommy-Girl’s doing to get her on there and attempt to resurrect her “career.”

  19. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

God, Jonny Lee Miller is so friggin’ hot… um, what’s this about again?

I had high hopes for “Eli Stone” but it is not a very good show. Now I just watch it in the hopes that Miller is shirtless at some point. 🙂

  20. Because I say So says:

Shouldn’t the title of this post be “Stunt Casting at its Worst?!” If no one wants to see her on Broadway and her movies suck, why would her presence suddenly help an already failing show?

  21. Hoangeaxony says:

Super-Duper install! I beloved it!! Will come back again – delightful you feeds also!
