Miley Cyrus gives a conflicted interview; Katy Perry wants to kiss her

I’m actually starting to feel a bit sorry for Miley Cyrus, although up until today I couldn’t stand her really irritating music and can’t believe how much of that Hannah Montana crap I bought for my teenage sister. My new sympathy is because the same week more photos of her have been leaked, she’s given an interview to TV Guide where she seems very confused, caught between her teenage self and her Disney child star image.

Firstly, she talks about wanting to stay a virgin until she’s married – this interview was done before the hacker ‘Trainreq’ claimed to have viewed, but conveniently forgot to save, emails where Miley says she had sex with a Jonas brother. No one has seen those emails, probably because they don’t exist.

The singer and actress wear a purity ring signifying her strong Christian faith and desire to remain a virgin until she marries.

She explained: “I like to think of myself as the girl that no-one can get, that no-one can keep in their hand. Even at my age, a lot of girls are starting to fall and I think if [staying a virgin] is a commitment girls make, that’s great.”

Girls are ‘falling’, by which I think she means they are having sex, unless she’s talking about falling on her ass as Disney kicks her to the curb. Her career will probably thrive if Disney does drop her for newcomers Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Miley has a plan for her next career move, a ‘younger cleaner version’ of Sex and the City.

You know, I think Miley missed the point of the show, which is maybe a good thing because she’s not old enough to watch it anyway!

Then Miley seems to remember that she’s owned by Disney studios and drops this delicious line.

“I don’t dwell on the negativity. I want to be a positive role model, so we just try to keep [that stuff] as much not talked about as possible.”

Do you feel a bit like she’s paying lip service here? It seems like there is no meaning behind it, it’s just something she’s saying?

Some one else who thinks Miley Cyrus might be good for her image is flavor of the month Katy Perry, who sings the song ‘I Kissed a Girl’. She says that she’d like to kiss Miley Cyrus In a Madonna-Britney style pash (why doesn’t anyone ever remember that Madonna kissed Christina Aguilera too?) admitting that while it wouldn’t do much for Miley’s career, ‘it would definitely help mine!’ Poor Miley, everyone wants a piece of her, although Katy’s offer is at least transparent.

WHO CARES. OMG.. she has no talent and is sooooooooo irritating.. UGHHH

  2. lulu says:

katy perry is disgusting! and miley cyrus needs to go away already!

  3. Meredith says:

    Agreed. Time’s up!

  4. Abby says:

I think she probably means “falling to sin.” That’s what we were always told when growing up. It’s a common Christian phrase or whatever.

  5. Bodhi says:

Miley looks like a chimpmunk & is annoying as hell. I can’t stand her either, but I hope she ends up in better place than Britney & LL

  6. Roma says:

Katy Perry used to be a christian performer and she too talked about waiting until marriage to have sex.

Ahh, how quickly the idealism falls. To quote Katy:

“One night my boyfriend and I went a little too far and I felt like I’d fallen so far away from God. I doubted myself and my strength. I was so weak at the time in my relationship with Christ.”

  7. Syko says:

    Miley is a twit. And a slut-in-the-making.

  8. jane says:

I feel really bad for these kids. They are being judged by standards that no one can possibly live up to. I also think its pretty awful that people (adults none the less) have such hateful things to say about someone who’s not even out of high school. She seems to be trying hard to keep her public persona positive for the kids at least. 😀

  9. Syko says:

The public personna she is trying to project, Jane, is so at odds with her constant leaking of semi-porn photos of herself and her obvious attempts to be sexy in photographs, that she comes across as a hypocrite and a liar. That, and the fact that a child of her age, supposedly Disney approved, is posing for semi-nude photographs, as well as unsavory photographs with her father, and then blaming a world-reknown photographer for the photos, is what everyone is upset about.

We all know kids start to think and play sexy in their teens. But to pretend you are oh-so-pure and then pose in the shower wearing only a wet t-shirt is hypocrisy. Possibly she did not purposely leak the pictures. But surely she understands that if you don’t want someone to see it, you don’t document it.

    It’s the lying that’s offensive.

  10. Linda says:

This girl has the strangest mouth…I don’t like looking at her at all.

  11. geronimo says:

She’s 15, and not a mature 15, judging by the crap she comes out with here and in other interviews. Where are the adults around her – parents, agents, manager etc – to tell her to put a sock in it until she’s got something intelligent to say?

Personally think she’s dumb and annoying, but describing her as a slut-in-waiting is way over the top.

  12. Bodhi says:

People actually in high school say far far worse things than I personally could come up with. High school kids are mean!

  13. chamalla says:

I’m not a fan, but I think most 15 year olds are at least a little annoying. It’s part of being 15.

I do feel for her. Trying on the woman you’re going to become is an awkward process, and she’s got two very conflicted influences trying to define her before she can define herself. I don’t know ANY teenagers irl that could handle it.

Ah, Disney. If it’s not making cute animal snuff films or trying to separate parents from their hard earned cash, it’s turning middle school girls into commodities/trainwrecks.

  14. Obvious says:

I blame Disney. They failed miserably with two of their most high profile stars. But they didn’t learn. They’re holding things girls up to these unattainable positions no wonder they all fall. The only reason we don’t hear abotu Hilary is she’s been wise enough to stay out of the limelight. Who know what dirty little secrets we could find there.

Disney needs to stop exploiting these kids and then dumping them. Then again where are the parents? Granted Brittany’s and Lindsay’s moms are just using their children for money and fame. But I would have hoped Miley’s parents would learn how to say no to her. It’s a shame.

  15. Laila says:

I can bet that two years from now, she will have a baby and will be telling all teen mothers that she is the happiest person in the world. Her bimbo persona suits her role as a child star so well. She seems to go where the wind blows. Those pictures are not leaked, they are deliberater. Disney would have a tighter reign on their latest money making machine.

  16. NHchicky says:

Am I the only person who thinks she’s completely fug? I can’t stand her music or her show.

  17. NHchicky says:

oh and I agree whole heartedly with syko. 😀

  18. Jaundice Machine says:

I think Syko’s on the right on.

It was tough going through adolescence when every boy you ever fancied had a semi-clad picture of Britney Spears in his locker. . .(or X-tina, or Arvil, or Jessica Simpson. . .) and would then compare you and your female peers to said celebusults. I found the so-called “Pop Princesses” of the late ’90’s to be vacant, hypocritical, smut-mongers who constantly disavowed their sexy stage personnas with their ‘wholesome’ and christ-filled family lives. Sorry bitches, but you can’t prance, pout and shake your money-maker across the stage for cash and recognition and be wildly recognized as a devout Christian. (Unless I guess you’re garnering cash and recognition for the Lord – I guess that makes sense, but I doubt Jesus would want you to spread your legs to spread ‘the Word’, ya know?)

I guess Miley or Hannah or whatever name she’s been christened by Disney-Almighty, is a different verse in the same tired-ass pop song. She’ll cause a few ‘scandals’ here and there, give a few thousands of pre/teenage girls complexes, and then she’ll fade into obscurity. And set the stage for several pathetic ‘Come Back’ tours – because everyone know pop-stars don’t die quietly.

  19. Blackalicious says:

Who is Selena Gomez? You mean Miley already has the Specter of Showbiz Anonymity lurking? She was selling out concerts all over. It seemed bigger than Beatlemania. Tough industry.

  20. chamalla says:

Selena Gomez is the star of a newish Disney show, The Wizards of Waverly Place. I’ve seen an episode, it’s tripe, just like Hannah Montana, but the tweens and the dirty old men seem to like it. The latter, I believe, is Disney’s secret target audience.

  21. kanisha says:

I think Selena (Gomez) is going to be like Hillary. She will be clean and not do stupid things while she’s in the limelight and then she wil break out Disney with fans still loving her because she never did anyhing wrong. Probably the same with Demi(Lovato)

  22. kate says:

does this girl have parents or was she raised by promiscuous wolves?

  23. Lizzie says:

I like reading these poles…just to see how hateful and unhappy people are. Too much jealousy ..What a shame! Don’t know who Katy Perry is but Miley take out your Raid and keep her away!!!

  24. hellcat says:

So…I’m twenty three, and what I remember about being fifteen is that I said a whole lot of things that were stupid and/or annoying, thought I knew a lot more than I actually did, acted and dressed in ways that I thought were sexy but were actually rather trashy, and generally said and did a whole lot of things that I am rather embarassed about now – and I was a good girl.

My point is just that at fifteen and even sixteen I said and did many things that, had I had the experience/wisdom/perspective/maturity that comes with adulthood, I wouldn’t have done. I think most people are the same way. So add me to the list of people who think it’s weird that GROWN people are judging the behavior of a fifteen year old so harshly. Yes, she’s a public figure; but being Hannah Montana doesn’t magically grant you wisdom, maturity or adulthood – you’re just a fifteen year old with lots of money who’s every stupid mistake is being chronicled. Everyone who expects consistency, complete purity, or adult composure from her clearly does not remember being 15.

  25. mollination says:

I couldn’t have said it better myself Hellcat.

  26. Grim says:

I don’t understand how people can judge these kids like they haven’t ever done any of these things themselves.

I’m sure most of the people going on and on about what a whore Miley is have probably taken worse photos of themselves, and probably even put them on their myspace as well.

    It isn’t a crime.

She’s just being a 15 year old girl.

  27. Christina X says:

Maybe Katy Perry can try a little harder to be controversial.

I’ve been over this Katy Perry twit ever since “I Kissed a Girl” was released, and no, it has nothing to do with me disapproving of homosexuality.

Ever since I’ve heard that Katy Perry used to be a Christian musician, I’ve thought less of her.

Whether you’re religious or not, I think it’s fucked up to abandon your values for fame, and let’s face it, skanking it up for a music video and releasing a song about adultery and one-night-stands is pretty much asking to be denounced by her Christian audience, and you know what? She deserves it.

Katy Perry dropped her hoity-toity image for a sexier one when she realized it was more convenient for her to sell her body instead.

I don’t know how to put this without sounding like a religious freak, because I’m not. My point is, that it’s disgusting to betray your principles just to become popular, and that’s a little bit what it seems like to me.

And Miley Cyrus is next in line. You think she’s skanking it up now? Wait until she turns 18.

  28. antazia says:

why in the world would she do this there is a lot of people who watch her show my best friend is her # 1 fan she never gives up to her role modle hannah montannah we love you shouldnt be saying any of these things to her peace

  29. Christina X says:

I don’t know how many times I’ll need to repeat myself, but I was a teenager not too long ago.

I never felt all that tempted to post skanked up photos on Myspace, but then again, I never gave a damn about popularity. My little sister’s turning fourteen in two days, and funny how she’s not flashing her underwear yet.

I know that five years ago, dinosaurs were walking around and all.

Just because “everyone else” does it doesn’t make it right.

  30. kymmiexkins says:

alright, i seriously like katy! I love her music and what not, but miley just needs to kill herself already, she thinks shes above everything else cause shes famous, when really her daddy got her the hannah montana job. i used to know miley, she went to my elementary school.. and she acted so innocent but talked/ stabbed everyone in the back eventually. Just go away already .

  31. Juless says:

Oh, heh. I thought the Miley flame died out already. Why does everyone care so damn much about a talentless 16 year old girl?
