Mischa Barton is featured wearing an open sleeveless denim vest and a goofy felt hat on the upcoming cover of Nylon Magazine. In the accompanying interview she talks candidly about the DUI she received on the day after Christmas last year. She was driving without a license and cops found pot in her car at the time. In April she plead guilty to the DUI charge and the marijuana charges were dropped. In exchange she’s on three years probation and has to attend an alcohol education class.
Mischa told Nylon that her DUI was a “low point” and she doesn’t say she felt bad about it because she could have killed someone or that she really shouldn’t have been driving in that state or even without a license. She said she’s disappointed because it puts her in the same DUI club as Paris, Nicole and Lindsay:
“That was a low point for me. I never, ever would have thought I would be arrested,” she says in the August issue of Nylon of the December incident. “I was disappointed because it associated me with a group of girls that I would rather not be associated with.”
Now living in Paris, the former O.C. star pleaded no contest to drunken driving in April and was sentenced to three years probation.
Still, the repentant 22-year-old doesn’t plan on taking up the quiet, studious life of others her own age.
“I would want to go to college for the learning, but there’s so much else that comes with that that I don’t think I need anymore,” she says. “I’ve been making my own money and living as an adult for far too long.”

Maybe People left out the part of the interview where Barton expressed regret for her DUI for more pertinent reasons other than the fact that it lumped her in with other irresponsible drunken starlets. She did say in interviews after her DUI hat she accepts responsibility for her actions and that she was really disappointed in herself. She told Ryan Seacrest “I don’t know what to say about it, except that I’m not perfect and I just don’t ever intend to do something this stupid again.” That statement in itself separates her from Lindsay and Paris, but maybe not Nicole because I think Nicole was pretty repentant after her DUI.
Barton used to be good friends with Paris Hilton, but was involved in a war of the words with her last year. Barton called Paris a “silly bitch” and said she steals people’s boyfriends while Paris acted like she didn’t know Mischa and said “she is the one who is trying to stir up a rivalry.”
Barton also used to spend time with Nicole Richie and I thought they were still friends. The last time I remember seeing them photographed together though was in May of last year when Richie was just starting to look pregnant. The two threw a memorial day party at Richie’s house and Mischa ended up in the hospital after she had a reaction from drinking while on antibiotics for bronchitis. Barton also got into a fender bender with Richie’s car in February of last year. Maybe these two haven’t really hung out since, or it’s possible Mischa is forgetting that Richie is among the girls she doesn’t want to be associated with.
As for Lindsay Lohan, Barton was seen out with her and Samantha Ronson in April of this year.
Maybe Barton doesn’t want to be associated with that “group of girls” who also have DUIs on their record, but it sure doesn’t seem like it considering how much she’s hung out with them in the past. It’s possible she’s just pissed off because their friendships didn’t work out.

Why does she always look so damn frumpy and unclean? She is so unappealing and suffers from the “skinny fat” syndrome. How can a skinny girl seem so flabby and unhealthy? Yuck.

Cassie, you’re so right. Funny how Mischa implies that she’s higher up the food chain than the other fuck ups when, in reality, my dog stands a better chance of snagging a leading role.

Erm. Okay. She regrets it because it associates her with them? How about regretting it because it was a stupid and reckless thing to do? Or because she could have killed someone? Or simply because it was wrong?
And she NEEDS some college if all she thinks she’ll get out of it is “the learning”. She needs to “learn” her something…fierce.

Mischa Barton is no better than Paris, Nicole, etc.
She got work as an actress because she is skinny and blond. That’s it.
She has nothing else, so she works that ultra-thin look that’s so popular these days.
But it won’t carry her very far for much longer.

why is she famous? al i know her for is her non exsistant sense of style. she should be glad that ANYBODY pays her any attention at all. she’s not that attractive and she trys too hard to be a trendsetter (unsuccessfully).

Mischa would be lucky to be in the same league as Lindsay and Nicole at this point: in stable, committed relationships, clean, sober, employed, and in the public eye for good reasons. Mischa should totally get off her superficial horse and realize she could have killed someone that night and that ought to be her number one regret — not who she may or may not be associated with.
