My understanding is that in the UK, verbal assault, when it fits certain criteria, can be punished as a crime. I’m assuming this is what the questioning was all about. I mean…sure, it’s possible that Bale is just a completely unpleasant jerk who treated his mother like crap. What I find more likely is that his mother used an acid tongue on a very important day, and Bale fired back verbally…and then the witch went to the cops after it was all over.

When my car got stolen some years back I spent about an hour and a half at the station reporting it, and minimum of 2 hours at a different station when they found it. Last year my flatmate and I spent about an hour to an hour and a half to try and sort something out.

Statements take for-bleedin’-ever to give.

Five hours of questioning??? Good grief! How long does it take to ask wtf happened in a verbal disagreement.

If the mother and daughter really were extremely drunk and publicly obnoxious, as reported on another thread - I’da physically removed them too.

The thing is, I would never say that I wouldn’t go to the police about my child no matter what he did (I can imagine circumstances where it might be a favour), but I can say for sure that I would never go and file a complaint about my child YELLING at me, particularly if I knew it would be hugely, publicly embarassing for him.
The fact that his mother would do that (and then say nothing to make things easier for him, except that it was a “family matter”) tells me a lot about her and their relationship.
I won’t say my sympathies are firmly with Bale (who strikes me as intemperate, rude and full of himself), but I don’t condemn him, either.

Lads - we don’t know what the argument was about. All we really have to go on is that comment left in D-listed, but it’s still just hearsay.

But the scenario you paint Helen seems to be the most plausible. There was a severe ruckus, presumably with Bale having been seen to push his mother or overheard threatening her or the sister.

Both parties may have been instructed to head to their nearest police station within a set timeframe to make a statement. If he had gotten much worse the police probably would have arrested him then and there, but he hasn’t been formally charged. It must have been bad if the mother and sister haven’t dropped the charges.

To me it sounds like a combination of jet-lag, stress and not getting on with the family all blew up. You may have to love your family - it doesn’t mean you have to like them.

It’s sad what money can do to people. They say your family can be your worst enemy at times

I think Bale is a great actor and your right Karen, he should be getting an Oscar by now. He’s done a lot of great movies and has been working since he was 13 years old. How many child stars can we say turned out this good? …not many.

He has been looking so tired and stressed out. I feel for him. I’m not sure if he is preparing for another movie that requires him to be a certain weight but he has been look a little slim. I hope he’s doing alright.

Christian if you read the blogs, congratulations on the success of your new movie!!! My cutie and I loved the movie so much that we’re going to see it again this weekend. Keep doing what you do best

I wouldn’t have been born if people were thrown in jail for verbally assualting someone else. My mom would have been locked up and never let out. It’s just family tradition to have one screamfest per event or meeting; nothing shocking and actually we’re all a bit nervous until it happens.

I think this is a situation where we can speculate all we like inside our heads but we should refrain from talking about it (unless, of course, you’re getting paid to do so, but the whole gossip industry is a whole other rant for another day.) Sharon is absolutely right: “It is an extremely sensitive situation.” I’ll admit, the first phrase through my head when I read the initial article was “roid rage”, but I pushed that shit OUT and forgot about it.
