The SAG nominations came out this morning! Sorry, I completely forgot about them. Probably because unlike the Golden Globes, there were no major “Holy hell, Angelina Jolie got a nom!” surprises. And because they take up so much space, and the list is crazy long, I’m not including the list of SAG nominations for television, but you can see the full list here, at Deadline. Here’s the list of film Screen Actors Guild Award nominations:

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
BLACK SWAN (Fox Searchlight Pictures)
THE FIGHTER (Paramount Pictures)
THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT (Focus Features)
THE KING’S SPEECH (The Weinstein Company)
THE SOCIAL NETWORK (Columbia Pictures)

No Julianne Moore for lead. No Mark Wahlberg for lead. No Halle Berry. No Andrew Garfield. No Leonardo. Why is there no love for Inception this year? That seems like a weird omission.

Yay for Renner, yay for Colin Firth, yay for Jesse Eisenberg and yay for the True Grit people. That’s very interesting!

And totally yay for Mila Kunis, too. Will Mila end up with an Oscar nomination? The SAG awards are considered a very good harbinger for the Oscar acting nominations, so Mila is looking like a contender… for a nomination. I seriously doubt she has a real shot at the award, though. My money is on Helena Bonham Carter in that category. My second guess is for Amy Adams, just because she has so much goodwill in the industry.

My other guesses:
Lead Actor: Colin Firth
Lead Actress: Natalie Portman or Annette Bening. I’m hoping Bening.
Supporting Actor: Probably Christian Bale, but Rush is a solid contender too.
Supporting Actress: Amy Adams or HBC
Ensemble: The King’s Speech (everybody loves the British actors) or The Social Network (probably because it’s considered “the best picture”).

Inception was a concept movie the concept was great and Leo was great but sci-fi movies don’t win awards. Although I am betting since there are 10 categories in Best Picture they will get an Oscar nod.
I am sad about Julianne Moore though.

  2. Sigh. says:

So Timberlake could still walk away with a SAG award for being in an “Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture,” no matter how he performed individually.

    Wow…

EDIT: Oh. my. damn. That. hair. I hope those days are far behind Nicole Kidman.

  3. normades says:

Nathalie’s bitchface is starting to seriously get on my nerves. Every picture!

  4. Solveig says:

No Leonardo love in general! It’s incredible that in spite of his many amazing performances he has never won an award.
Of course it is amazing if you take the awards seriously…

  5. zippersgirl says:

I’m so happy to see Jennifer Lawrence nominated for Winter’s Bone. She was amazing.

  6. danielle says:

I would love to see Mila get a nomination! Fingers crossed!

  7. Bill Hicks is God says:

Oh Helena, you are so tragically fantastic!

  8. LittleDeadGirl says:

I don’t get how Inception didn’t get a nod at all. I’m sorry but I can’t imagine “The Kids are Alright” or “The Social Network” will be remembered in five years where as I would bet on Inception being remembered and talked about. -le sigh- but I’m biased for my great love of sci-fi movies too… still … boooooo

  9. fanny says:

The King’s Speech is on my must see list as it has gotten excellent reviews and rivals Slum Dog Millionaire with both having five stars. I love the Black Swan trailer. Nicole Kidman’s movie sounds interesting, too, but about a sad topic. It took Nicole guts to do this movie and to entertain these sad thoughts, especially with a baby at home. I love Nicole in that brassy long hair. She is simply gorgeous.

  10. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I love Annette too but again this just isn’t her year. Its Natalie’s year and she better win everything. I am very excited for award season.

Even though you didn’t post the TV nominations I am seriously happy with all that have been nominated. People who love Breaking Bad will be happy. I am pretty happy. My Temple Grandin bet with my friends still stands. I predict a sweep for Claire Danes.

  11. Lori says:

HBC is BSC and I love her!

  12. lrm says:

nicole kidman is back to being her gorgeous self. yellow ish hair nad all, she’s amazing.
    love her.

julianne moore always hits it out of the park; she cannot get noticed for all of them.

kids are alright sucked. i left part way thru it. if this was about a ‘straight couple’, it would have been winey and pretentious. trust me. mark ruffalo was great in it though. serious yumminess from him in that role. and benning and moore were solid as usual.
i hope benning wins b/c she’s great, but gawd this movie was so freakin’ annoying and gratuitous. in your face american coverage of subject matter-so typical. Monotonous and grating….after 2/3 of the movie, you know it’s not going to get better.

but that girl who played alice was in it-and she was fabulous, too. she has a bright future.

  13. Marie says:

Oh holy hell that hair! No idea who that is, but the hair reminds me of the character in one of the Harry Potter movies that runs around singing, “I killed Sirus Black, I killed Sirus Black..” Yeah that’s how my mind is working today.

  14. truthSF says:

I love Helen Bonham Carter and her acting so much, I will forever overlook her weird sense of style.

  15. Majosha says:

@zippersgirl: Agreed! She was nothing short of phenomenal. Glad to see some accolades for John Hawkes, too, because he was equally as outstanding.

  16. lucy2 says:

These seem a bit more in line with reviews and expectations than the Globes did.
Not too surprised at the Leo/Inception snubs, but disappointed that JGL isn’t getting anything for his amazing work in that film.
The TV ones are fairly predictable too, though I wish the amazing cast of Lost had been recognized one more time.

  17. N.D. says:

Mila Kunis is nominated and Vincent Cassel is not? And in what world Jesse Eisenberg is more deserving than Leo?

I’ll never understand how these awards work.

  18. SuperSleuth says:

I wholeheartedly agree with you Solveig. Leo is an amazing actor. It makes one question this whole awards business.

  19. Sophie says:

    @Marie, that was her!

  20. Spacewoman says:

yaaayyy!!! Renner!! love love adore him…and he was so good in The Town…hope he wins.

  21. Bee says:

I’m so upset that the Inception cast didn’t get nominated. Everyone in the movie was excellent.

  22. Jeri says:

Good for Mila – she’s come a long way since That 70’s show. (Ha Ha Aston)

  23. Kiska says:

I hope Kidman keeps the red hair. It suits her complexion so well.

Helena is such a hot mess.

  24. spinner says:

HBC is so strangely beautiful. I think she totally eclipses Jolie in the looks & acting department. Glad to see Kidman back in good form because she really is an excellent actress. Natalie looks like a real live bitch & Mila is adorable. Please put Swank back in the barn where she belongs.

  25. flutters says:

Julianne Moore overlooked again. That makes me sad.

Andrew Garfield was probably the victim of votesplitting with other Social Network supporting actors.

  26. Ron says:

If Annette wins for this role it’s a total hand off for career achievment adn she’s just not that old. Bitchface or not, Natalie owned that role and was amazing. i have not seen Winter’s Bone yet, but even Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole is a better contender than Annette. Glenn Close has not won an Oscar yet, so you can be a great actor like Annette and not win one.

  27. Camille says:

Its a long shot but I hope Mila cleans up the awards season. I haven’t even seen the movie yet and I want her to win everything 😆 .

  28. gloaming says:

I hope Mark Ruffalo wins and get’s Oscar nominated for The Kids Are Alright, he was outstanding in that.

  29. cookie says:

I agree about Jennifer Lawrence, her incredible performance carried the entire film. I hope she is a surprise win!

  30. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

These awards are more of a popularity contest and an “actor’s films” type thing. Actors basically telling other actors “hey, you did an awesome job”. The Golden Globes-ratings ratings ratings. It’s especially clear this year.

This group seems more like what people were collectively assuming would happen.

I hope Black Swan gets some awards-it’s truly unique and beautiful. And I’m glad The Social Network got some recognition. It is a very interesting film and Jesse Eisenberg plays “asshole nerd” very very convincingly.

  31. carrie says:

“inception” has no nod for 2 reasons:no developped character(except Leo& maybe Marion) and Leo acted twice the same character in “inception” & “shutter island”(he needs to act another character)

  32. Louise says:

Annette was great but because her movie came out in the summer and the Black Swan was just released, Natalie will probably win most if not all awards.

  33. Marie says:

@sophie..no shit!! She wears her hair like that all the time?? Wow wow, thats all I can come up..wow

  34. Alexa says:

Don’t nobody be talking about my Hilary Swank like that!!! (#@*! Mama doan like that!) And hell guys – why NOT route for Natalie Portman? Someone’s got to…

    Team Natalie for The Win!

  35. Bellatrix says:

Oh Helena, our true black swan.

Not that you care if you win this award or not…

  36. Hautie says:

    Poor Annette.

Can she not catch a break?

The last couple times she got a nomination for an Oscar… Hillary Swank was also included… and won both times….

So I am pulling for Annette to win the SAG. With good thoughts going out for Nicole.

And I am totally pulling for Mila.

  37. Crash2GO2 says:

Ack! Helena! For god’s sake, if you’re not going to take care of your teeth, at least don’t highlight them with bad lip liner !

  38. eva says:

Ugh, Helena needs to use crest strips and lay off the cigs and coffee. Its so distracting. She is incredibility gorgeous, but ick, her teeth! I love coffee and I do have to use the strips once in a while. In fact, that photo has motivated me to jump up from my desk so I can stick a set on my teeffers.

  39. JenJen says:

    Hilary for the win! (AGAIN)

  40. Nala says:

It’s pretty much Natalie’s year, I don’t see anyone else winning. Both Bening and Kidman gave o-kay perfomances, but Natalie was brilliant!
