Honestly, I had forgotten that Vince Vaughn and his wife Kyla Weber were expecting their first child, so imagine my surprise when I just read that Vince is now the proud father of a little girl. The name? Locklyn Kyla Vaughn. Um… Locklyn? She sounds like a security system. “Trust your family with Locklyn Vaughn Security!” As for giving the mother’s name as her daughter’s middle name… eh. I don’t hate it or love it. If it’s a family name that gets passed down through the generations, I could understand it. But I find it hard to believe that Kyla Weber’s grandmother was Ol’ Grammy Kyla Buttons.
Christmas came early for Vince Vaughn, with his wife Kyla Weber giving birth to a healthy baby girl on Saturday morning, Dec. 18, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
Locklyn Kyla Vaughn, who weighed 7 lbs. and measured 20 inches long, was born at a hospital in Chicago, Vaughn’s hometown. The actor’s rep confirms the good news.
“Both of them couldn’t be happier to welcome their sweet little girl into their family!” says a friend of the couple’s.
It’s a first child for both Vaughn, 40, and Weber, a Canadian real estate agent, who married in January 2010.
When Weber’s pregnancy was announced in July, a source close to the Couples Retreat star told PEOPLE that the pair were thrilled about the baby, saying, “They’re having so much fun together and they’re so excited to be first-time parents!”
Vaughn stars with Kevin James in the upcoming The Dilemma, to be released on Jan. 14, 2011.

I realized I must have sounded like a total bitch just now when I was bitching about the name (seriously, LOCKLYN?), so let me say: congratulations! I’m very happy for Vince and for Kyla, and Kyla has my thoughts and prayers in this, and everything else. Let’s hope Vince’s over-bearing mother isn’t ruining this special time for the happy family.

Lol @Kaiser, good one. That name is definitely unique.

I have a friend whose family does that very thing–giving the parents name as the child’s middle name. I am all for naming children after loved ones–my daughter is named after my husband and my respective grandmothers-but it seems odd to honor yourself in that manner.

Locklyn. Is that even a name? Is it.. derived from something? Is ir a variation of another name? I’m confus.

Well it’s better than Vincenza (nod to overbearing mom)…lol!

Most ridiculous name I’ve heard lately.

Mollyb – See, I like the idea of giving your kid a middle name from one of the kid’s grandparents. But naming a kid with your own name seems slightly hokey.

Yeah, that wasn’t very nice. It’s a Scottish name. Also Brad & Angie name one of their son’s Knox (Fort Knox?) and no one seemed to make fun of that. Congrats to Vince & his wife!

Locklyn is an odd name, but not the worst I’ve heard coming from Hollywood. I agree about the middle name thing, though-it does seem odd to have given her the mother’s name as a middle name. But who am I to judge? My middle name is Ruby, after my grandmother.
Here in the south I have found it is common practice to give women their mothers maiden name as a middle name. This is how I ended up with a friend named Pringle (she hates her actual first name).

Where I am living nobody would blink an eye if a child was named or given the middle name of his father, but for some reason it would be super-weird to give a daughter her mother’s name.
And yes, Lochlan is a name (Scottish?) and it would be pronounced “locklyn” I supposed, but it is a male name. It’s a nice name too. For a fella, I mean.

I like the Locklyn name but since the point has been made it will remind me of a security system. Now that I think of it, Sarah McLachlan sounds like Sarah McLocklyn. Maybe they should have spelled the baby’s name differently.

Agreed Tuatara. If they had a boy and gave him Vincent as a middle name, no one would have thought as much of it. I think it’s strange for either the father or mother to honor his/herself with their child’s name. Especially the whole Jr. and III thing – yikes.

My middle name is my mom’s name, and my youngest son’s middle name is the male version of my name. So I guess we know my opinion on that matter

Well isn’t she proud to land a famous money making husband who is probably a total douche–or at least he looks like it. ugh, desperate women. And now she has him locked in with a kid. cha-ching.

Maybe I’m just old and bitter but I can’t stand these trendy, made-up names for kids (coughcoughSarahPalincoughcough). Lochlan is an wonderful old name but it’s a boy’s name so a different spelling doesn’t make it appropriate for a girl. “Lockie” for short?? And placing a “De” or a “La” in front of a name is just so wrong. And place names – sorry, not down with Cheyenne, Saratoga, Laramie, Montana, they sound like stripper names.

I see Vince hasn’t lost the baby weight yet. Maybe he should call his *cough* wasn’t fake to promote their movie *cough* ex girlfriend Aniston and ask to borrow her trainer?

My father’s name is Lauchlin, it’s a Scottish name. There are a few different ways of spelling it but I’ve never seen it “Locklyn”. The name is a boy’s name, though.

Locklyn is of Scottish origin and means “land of lakes” or “lake land”. I think it’s a lovely name. Congratulations for the happy parents!

I think it’s cute. Some people do grandparent’s last names or maiden names, etc. I was going to give a boy my mom’s maiden as a middle name – Basile… since it can be a first name too, but I had a girl.

I don’t mind the parent/grandparent name as middle name at all.
And I don’t even mind the made up/odd/heritage names, if they aren’t spelled too weird and sound nice. Locklyn just doesn’t. It’s a hard sounding name for a girl. Oh well, at least she could go by “Lyn” or something.
Congrats to them, I forgot they were expecting too.

my name is eja. it’s pronounced “asia”. I took a lot of shit from people, adults too, growing up. I like my name.

I think the name Locklyn is lovely and perhaps Vince loves the name Kyla so much that he insisted that his daughter have that name. Congratulations to them for having a healthy Christmas baby.
I have to say, I become unreasonably annoyed at people who decide they “don’t like” the name of a child who is in no way related to them. It’s so rude!! Baby names are personal and have meaning to the baby’s family and should be of no concern to anyone else.

@eja . . . I feel your pain. I have a “weird” name also and I stopped explaining the origins a long time ago. Now when someone asks how I got my name I just roll my eyes and look annoyed. I know that’s rude but I’m sick of explaining!!!

Terrible spelling of a great name, but yes, Lachlan is generally a boys’ name. But I have no problem usurping names from the other gender!

well, some of us love unique, unusual names…so if we ask others, it’s b/c we are genuinely curious-nont thinking ‘how strange, where did THAT come from?’ but more of ‘hey, cool, tell me the story!’
Sometimes it’s just ‘oh, my parents just liked it’ lol
And you cn tell they are tired of the question..but,c’est la via-if you have a unique name, you WILL be asked. And, if you give a kid a unique name, they will be asked. My son is asked all the time-but he loves his name.

I don’t mind- in theory- the practice of giving a parent’s name as their child’s middle name, as it’s very common in my culture and I was named the same way.
…except I ended up being named after my DAD, and it’s by no means a “unisex” name like “Dylan” or “Alex”.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my father to pieces and I’m proud that I carry his name. I just have NO IDEA WHY I carry his name, since I have several older brothers.
As for VV, “Locklyn” just reminds me automatically of Kyle McLachlan, and anything that reminds me of Agent Cooper makes Rio a happy, happy girl.

@Rio: One name (of many) that I was stuck on for my boy was Leland and every one of my friends said “NO! TWIN PEAKS!”. So instead we named him…Rio!

Seriously people, I know it’s an odd way to spell it, but for goodness sakes, look outside your own little world once in a while! Lachlan is an old, rather common, name. And no one would think twice if it was a boy and the middle name was Vincent. Nice to know mom’s name doesn’t mean as much as dad’s. O_O

a girl being given part of her mothers name isn’t unheard of does Lucy Neal Dahl ring a bell. so what that she was her parents last child not their first. many boys names are used for girls many with the same spelling Michael Stewart Ashley Nicole is a derived from Nicholas or Nicholai Joey is used as a deminutive for both boys and girls. for instance there’s Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward’s second daughter Melissa who’s middle name is stewart after family friend screen writter Stewart stern. or Actress Michael Lernard who Played Olivia Walton in the series the Walton’s. replacing Patricia Neal who had played the part in the Pilot movie Momecoming A Christmas Story

I agree completely. Names are a matter of the preference of the PARENTS. I don’t even comment on family babies. Unless the baby came from my body, I have no right to an opinion. As far as the middle name, I think it is sweet. It was probably his idea. I know a few people who have done that and it was dad’s idea in each case. Naming after the mother is no different than naming a baby boy after his father. While we don’t do this, plenty of people do and it is their choice.

I remember an interview with Vince where he said his wife’s (then fiancee) mother was from Scotland, hence the name. It’s an old tradition to use either the mother’s maiden name or first name…I’ve got my mother’s first name for my middle so I’m down with it.
Congrats to the happy couple!!

Cosign. None of us have a dime in that quarter.
Having said that, there are lots of women who have masculine names. It’s not that strange.

As a girl name I am not sure but my son who is three is named Locklan. I chose it as one of my top two and we let our daughter pick from them and she picked Locklan. It is a scottish in origin with various spellings and we went with a phonic spelling b/c it would be different. Apparently someone else in my province also thought that the same year as my son’s birth and named their son that as well.

Wow! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you go from “Leland” to “Rio”? Those seem like two names on complete opposite ends of the spectrum!
And kudos on having friends cool enough that their first objection had to do with David Lynch. I agree, Leland Palmer wouldn’t be the best namesake!
