Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell having twins

Rebecca Romijn, 35, and Jerry O’Connell, 34, have been married for a year and look like they’re having a lot of fun together. There were tabloid stories in April that the couple was trying to get pregnant, with model Romijn supposedly eating more in an attempt to conceive. Just over a week ago O’Connell mentioned that they were working on a baby together. He likely already knew that they had two on the way at the point and wanted to wait a little while before making the official announcement. He said “It would be amazing if it happened… I hope it does happen.” O’Connell also cracked that he enjoyed the process of making a baby, saying they’re trying “at least a few days a month!” It turns out all their hard work was worth it – Romijn is said to be expecting twins, due this winter:

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell will soon be on double diaper duty.

Us Weekly has learned that Romijn, 35, and O’Connell, 34, are expecting twins this winter.

A spokesman for the couple confirmed the news Monday morning.

The babies will be the first children for the pair.

Romijn and O’Connell met at a party in 2004; he proposed a year later. They got married in an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles in July 2007. See their wedding photo.

Their rep has also confirmed the news to People Magazine. I really like these two together and that is great news for them! Twins are becoming more common in the general population and hence among celebrities population due to the infertility treatments available, but it really doesn’t matter how a baby or babies are conceived. What matters is that they’re born into a loving home. These two seem like they’ll make great parents.

O’Connell recently apologized if anyone was offended by a parody video he made of Tom Cruise’s Scientology video, in which Cruise ranted that the cult were “experts on the mind” and the only people who could help accident victims. O’Connell’s version for Funny or Die included references to the then-striking Writer’s Guild using similar phrases as Cruise and wearing the same black turtleneck, laughing uncontrollably. He said he never intended the video to become as popular as it did, and that it was intended as more of an inside joke in the industry. As for Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes responding to his joke, he said “There has been no contact, thank goodness,” but added that making the video was a lot of fun.

They make a gorgeous couple, congratulations 😉
I appreciate his wicked sense of humor.

  2. sauvage says:

    Twins are the new black!

  3. Syko says:

Definitely something in the water in SoCal. Don’t drink it!

  4. KateNonymous says:

Don’t apologize, Jerry! Your parody was right on target.

    And congrats to both.

  5. Kaiser says:

    Congrats to them…

I actually think Jerry’s Cruise is the best. Better than Ben Stiller’s, even.

  6. xiaoecho says:

that IVF industry – busy busy busy

Looks like twins are the new must have celeb accessory

bad news for all the waiting adoptees in third world countries – but hey, that picking up kids from third world slums as if they were strays, is soooo last season

  7. Syko says:

Why do you assume that because someone has twins, they used IVF? Twins do come along naturally.

  8. geronimo says:

Yeah but not quite as naturally and in such profusion as this and last year’s batch. Just seems to be an incredibly high incidence of them in recent times amongst celebs. Not that it matters, babies are babies, regardless of how they come about.

    July 28th, 2008 at 5:12 pm…

Well if you are so passionate about 3rd world orphans and the like, then why don’t you do something about it instead of attacking others who are expecting kids…

  10. xiaoecho says:

    CoCo….get some intelligence

oh, and growing up might help – what are you doing here hanging around with the grown ups? Go and play with your toys.

geronimo…….when are you going to get an avatar so we can see your ‘face’
Bohdi is so cute and sykos’ tail is awesome, vdantev still won’t tell me whos’ face he uses and Divas’ is so light and ephemeral……..pleeeese 🙂

  11. daisy424 says:

    Meow xiaoecho

  12. Mairead says:

To be fair xiaochao – many countries in the developing world are sharply cutting back on foreign adoptions (those that used to allow it at all of course)

(I know that’s not exactly what you meant – but just in case there was anyone out there that thought it was a really simple process – you never know).

Maybe I should get the rest of the BS critiscisms out of the way now… 34!!! OMFG! She’s so old. She’ll be pushing the pram with her zimmer-frame!

But anyway – congrats to the new parents

  13. xiaoecho says:

Mairead……yeah it was a flippant comment but I do think there is some truth to it. For ordinary mortals it is getting harder to adopt but celebs do have the wheels greased for them by minders, handlers, money and contacts.

When was the last time a high profile celeb 3rd world adoption was in the news….ages ago. Madonna is the last one, as far as I remember.
Now think back to 2004/5/6, it seemed to be all the rage……how many did AJ adopt in how many years? Then of course the heat of public opinion started and the trend dropped right off

    .
    .
    Daisy……I’ll take that as a compliment 8)

  14. Kolby says:

I don’t normally scream “IVF! IVF!” everytime someone announces they’re having twins, but you have to admit the number of celebrity couples having twins these days far exceeds the average. Twins are not all that common, especially spontaneously conceived twins. Of course it doesn’t matter, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did seek some sort of fertility assistance.

  15. Bodhi says:

    Thanks xiaochao!

Congrats to the couple! I wonder how the celeb twin rate compares to the mere-mortal twin rate…

  16. KateNonymous says:

“picking up kids from third world slums as if they were strays, is soooo last season”

Apparently criticizing celebrities for that is soooo last season. This year, it’s all about criticizing them for having challenged fertility to begin with!

It seriously seems to be a lose-lose situation.

  17. daisy424 says:

What ever works for ya xiaoecho 😉

  18. DLR says:

Hey, to those that bitched about Rebecca doing the IVF or fertility drug thing go over to CBB and read the comment she did not do either. I guess all that sex paid off, and for sure she is hiding her bump in those pictures. Look at that flowing dress, so not Alex (who wore tight shirts and pencil skirts last season).

  19. CoCo says:

xiaoecho, I’m sorry if i came across mean but, i live in a third world country (South Africa actually)and would like to think of myself as informed on “3rd world matters”…
I don’t know why you resorted to questioning my intelligence. I just asked a question.
Eh, *throws hands in the air*, i give up.

  20. elisha says:

OK, I wasn’t going to weigh in on the twins thing, but since I’m scrolled alll the way down here to comment I’ll just say it… we’ll have to wait and see whose twins are fraternal and whose are identical. If hers are identical, you know she didn’t IVF. If they’re fraternal, she still may not have used IVF but considering the chances are less than one percent of having fraternals naturally, she probably did. Same thing I said about AJ, the odds are just too dang good that you get to be gorgeous and snag awesomely hot hubbies and you’re one of the less than one percent to have natural fraternal twins.

Anyway, what I actually came down to comment about: SLIDERS SLIDER SLIDERS and some MY SECRET IDENTITY thrown in for good measure!!! Yah, it makes no sense, so what! I LOVE JERRY AND HIS RAD SHOWS!

Wait, will someone look up if you can have identical twins IVF? You can’t, right?

  21. xiaoecho says:

CoCo……..You didn’t “…just ask a question” Instead of contributing to the debate you attacked me unnecessarily in a nasty personal manner

    Not very intelligent

Next time you disagree with me, tell me why instead of putting me down………it’s more grown up that way

  22. Bodhi says:

    Good point Elisha

  23. Kolby says:

Elisha – I don’t think you can have identical twins through IVF – each embryo is inserted directly into the uterus individually, and most parents are given a choice of how many eggs they’d like inserted.

  24. clare says:

OMG, Jerry, never, ever apologize for that parody video of Tom Cruise! It was brilliant! I still can’t help but madly giggle when I see it!
If you seriously feel like you offended Tom Cruise and his cult may be after you, you can always name your firstborn son after him… although, that would make the poor wee one a laughingstock and we can’t have that!

  25. KDRockstar says:

For women over 30, there is a 5% chance of having twins *naturally*.

So I’m on the bus that says “twins are to 2008 what adoption was to 2006.”

    http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/twins/twin_statistics.html

  26. Lalalala says:

didnt they come out and say they did not seek treatment and concieved the baby naturally? Either way — thats awesome!

  27. cc says:

For those questioning IVF and identical twins, it IS possible to identical twins with IVF.

“Twins born as a result of two embryos implanted are usually non-identical. However, in about 4% of cases they can be identical as one embryo may fail to implant, while the second divides into two. The perinatal mortality risk among monozygotic twins has been reported to be two to three times higher than the risk among dizygotic twins. The rate of monozygotic twins increases with the use of ovulation induction, assisted hatching and ICSI.”

That was taken off of an IVF website.

  28. Little Hutt says:

Congrats to them 🙂 they make such a cute couple.

  29. vdantev says:

Good on them. He’ll always be the fat kid from ‘Stand By Me’, to me though.

  30. Mairead says:

@xiaoecho I agree with what you say about it so much harder for mere mortals, without a dedicated team scurrying around in the background to smooth things over.

I’ve said my peace loads of times before about it being a private affair whether someone decides to go for IVF or not.

But you know how sometimes things just seem to happen in spurts – all of a sudden lots of friends/colleagues or family are pregnant at the same time. Thinking about it there doesn’t really seem to be that many twins – these two, Brangelina, JLo and Marc Anthony and Marcia Cross – who else am I missing?

  31. xiaoecho says:

Mairead…..THIS particular couple seem have gone au naturel but it seems suspicious with others. JLo was reported as considering IVF and presto! It’s two birds with one stone, so to speak. Brangie are open about their IVF because as was said “….she didn’t want to go through the stress of trying to get pregnant” Bang! Two babies but only one annoying – life interupting – pregnancy

No value judgement – IVF is no better or worse than any other medical or cosmetic procedure……it’s the deceit and posturing that gets up my nose

If it was me, I’d go for it – who cares how they get here, a life is to be welcomed

  32. Mairead says:

True, true – I’m not saying that all are completely without help.

But I’m really confused as to it being portrayed as a simple procedure, especially in relation to “the couple who shall remain nameless” and less hassle than a natural pregnancy – don’t you have to inject additional hormones over the course of a few months and there are injections with great big needles to extract the eggs?

Why would anyone try and “avoid the hassle” of uncertainty for something that’ll make you feel like hell, is bloody sore and may not work anyway? 😕

Please realise I’m not having a go at you xiaoecho, it’s just something I couldn’t get my head around on the other thread either.

  33. xiaoecho says:

Mairead……….I’ve never gone through it (IVF) and you seem more familiar with the ramifications of living through it but yeah, did read the Holy Mothers explanation for choosing IVF but don’t remember where.

Would I choose to go through all that aggro to have all my kids at once and avoid multiple pregnancies —Hell yeah!!!

We manipulate our bodies and reproductive processes in other ways, so why not this?

  34. It does not matter if they did IVF or not. Its no one else’s business. People need to get a life and quit worrying about how other people are reproducing.

  35. I agree with CoCo. Those are so passionate about adopting third world orphans, need to go out and do exactly that. Its hypocritical to judge other people for not adopting, when you yourself have not adopted any children.

  36. daisy424 says:

Mairead is right. My sister went through IVF and said the egg extraction was more painful than the actual childbirth.
But worth it in the longrun.

  37. Bodhi says:

Mariead~ I completely understand what you are getting at. IVF isn’t (from what I understand) pleasant. Why would ANY woman undergo IVF if they didn’t have to? And what skeezy doctor would authorize it?

All that being said, I’m 99.9& positive that various & sundry reasons will be presented for any/all celebs.

And all THAT being said, it is kinda wierd that 3 celeb couples are having/ have had twins.

  38. LiLi says:

let’s hope all these couples having twins can handle it
i know many marriages that crack under the stress of 1 newborn so i can only imagine having 2. and then 2 toddlers and 2 teenagers- wow! 😯
i do wish that some celebrity couples would admit to ivf or infertility issues so it could maybe take some of the shame/stigma away.

  39. vdantev says:

xiaoecho: Wow, once more your obsessive hate leaves me stunned. I recommend therapy. The day I care, or dig deeply enough into a celebrity’s life to find out if their child was through in-vitro I plan to open up both wrists and lay in a warm bath.

  40. daisy424 says:

LiLi, I think the celebs feel it’s private; they don’t owe us an explaination.

  41. xiaoecho says:

vdantev….my ‘obsessive hate’? It doesn’t take much to stun you, does it? A little obsessive hate here, a little obsessive hate there and hey presto! Your stunned!!! 😆

  42. Kevin says:

Big deal if she would have stayed with Stamos she would probably be having quads or sextuplets.

  43. talula says:

    congrates to the happy couple

  44. Nan says:

I’m not obessed w/celebrities but I am obsessed w/commenters who comment on the celebrities.

  45. mamalama says:

A bit off the subject…anyone know if Jerry’s show, “Carpoolers” is coming back this fall? My sister recommended it, so my husband and I started watching it – it was hysterical! Made us lol many times in each episode.

  46. Anastasia says:

I just want to go on record as saying I don’t give a shit how this couple conceived or how any other couple conceives.

I like this couple, though. The fat kid from Stand By Me ends up with a supermodel, I love it.

And I love her role on Ugly Betty. Congrats to the couple!
